Making Your Stick Pretty: A Custom Stick Art Guide/Tutorial

Yeah, looks good and I agree that you need something to make that character art pop. There are really countless things you could to from adding a border glow to strokes and drop-shadows, even texturizing, etc. If you are using photoshop for the ink splats there are a few ways you could do it. If you’re not all-that experienced, the easiest way would be to use some ink-splat brushes and just brush the shapes under the character layer in full tones or gradients, etc. experiment! To do it from scratch you’d need to know the pen tool pretty well and make your own brushes or vector shapes. But remember, if you download brushes they belong to the artist who created them so it’s copyrighted material.

I posted my attempt of a template here. What would be your suggestions to clean this up. I wanted to put the each of the two RWs on the sides and Ryo on the front. I have another pic I want to use for the top panel. Thanks!!

Hi, so the local kinkos at my place didn’t offer lami labels, so I just got a regular laminated copy. What adhesive would work best for smooth results? it’s just an SE mod so I’m not using plexi.

So, I finally bothered to make an account instead of just lurking due to the fact that I got off my ass and made an image. I’m a huge Sega/Dreamcast fanboy, so of course this had to be my first image. I hope to get it lami-labled by the end of the week.

This is for the MadCatz Brawl Stick that I’m buying to mod. I sadly am going to have to play one tournament with default buttons since I wont be able to get Sanwa parts shipped in time. Though I’m sure it’ll be an improvement over the Hori Tekken 6 stick I had been using >.>

I plan on switching out the buttons so that i get a Dreamcast based color scheme going with the buttons (since I have all the colors I need for Dreamcast face Buttons). I’m also going to swap it so it’s color with black guards or black with color guards to break up the monotony a bit. As you can see I plan on switching the button layout a bit as well to match the default TE sticks.

I wanted to fit more characters like some zombies from House of the Dead and Ein from Dead or Alive but I couldn’t fit them in easily. I’m also not too thrilled at the white space at the bottom. I’m thinking about placing a drop shadow in there.

Just started my own design but ran out of ideas pretty quick.

It’d be great to get some thoughts on a background or something extra on the right of the stick

Instead of just having the greyscale Chun/Mai on that part of the stick, have them fill the entire background. Also, move the foreground Chun/Mai to the left as the dustwasher will cover them.

wow that was quick, I made the changes

Seems too much of it has become grey but I kinda like it, could always get red and blue buttons I guess. Maybe throw some logos in or something. Thanks for the quick reply.

Try playing with the opacity of the background.

So I made another design to go with the other one. This one is a bit more simple but it has a nice feel overall.

EDIT: Yet another design, I keep cranking these out. It’s pretty fun actually.

Hey guys i live in the UK, and im working on a Ibuki and Cammy template for my TE stick (i allready have the buttons and new stick installed and am ready to order, a violet bezel and such), im wondering how i should go about getting my art printed when its done? i know from reading through the pages that i can either get it printed and laminated on 80lb cardstock paper, full size (am i missing anything?). However im not sure where i can get this done in the UK, gremlin solutions offers a Mad catz pre cut clear plexi cover and can print art to go underneath it (though now i am on the site it says it is currently unavalible). Does anyone know whats the better option? getting work printed to go under a plexi cover? or getting it printed on the cardstock paper and getting it laminated? and where i could get this done? thanks guys

the better option is usually plexi cover, but the cheaper option is to print and laminate the art work.
a plexi cover starts at 20 dollars plus shipping while printing and laminated is usually about 5 dollars.

Do you know if they ship world wide? or would i need to find somewhere in the UK? can u recomend anywhere? thanks

the plexi? i’m not sure, but i think Art hobbies plexi + shipping will run you about 60 dollars…

True. To shit a te plexi to canada costs a good 40 to 50 dollars which is not worth it imo. Just glue art on.

ya, it’s a rip off really, it shouldn’t cost that much since they are thin and light…i just opted to make my own, even though i messed up of the first lexan i still came out ahead…

I was going to do that. Unfortunately the only places online i could find large amounts of 1/16 lexan are in the us and the shipping is up the ass. I couldnt find any in my city either.

really, you got no home depot near you? that’s where i got my plexiglass and lexan…plexi glass you can get 24’‘x48’’ for 25 dollars…

I should try that, I went to RONA aka revy, canadian tire although i didnt expect any there anyway, and…well i guess thats it. What thickness plexiglass did you get? because i DID find plexiglass although the thinnest i could find was 1/2 inch.

Huh i checked the home depot site and they have sizes waaaay smaller than that like 6 times smaller. Would never have guessed ill go down there on tuesday and get some.

oh ya, they sell an 11x14 sized sheet for like 5 dollars…tee hee…
