The more you know.
Maj-
In case you are reading this, I swear your footsies guide changed my gaming life completely and helped me get a few people into fighting games in general. After reading your articles, friends of mine finally realized that there was strategy and not just mashing out special moves. I’ll prolly never make it out of the middle tier, but it’s nicer being there than in the extreme low tier.
Thanks for your contributions and sorry you got the short end of the shaft with eventscrubs. Your content is invaluable to the community.
I’m a fan of pretty much all SF related sites. I have SRK, EventHubs and SonicHurricane all in my Google RSS feed. So I’m not biased towards any particular site.
Also, I think Maj makes hands down the most intricate, high quality, best combo vids out there. No question. I also really enjoy his articles and how he shows multiple examples of each concept.
With that said, I think Maj is kinda reaching in that “I Give Up” post. I feel bad that he’s been having trouble making his content financially worthwhile. And it must be frustrating to see someone like EventHubs come along and nail the perfect formula for a revenue-generating FG site.
But ultimately, you can’t put the blame 100% on EH for Maj not getting the traffic he needs. Maj is making it sound like EH is making all the money that he should have made if they didn’t steal his content. When the fact is, I guarantee that EH and Maj would both have had the same financial outcomes respectively if EH had never posted (“stolen”) a single Maj video.
And because of that, I don’t think it’s fair for Maj to single out EH. And it’s also not fair to say that they don’t deserve to make money cause “nobody in the tournament scene knows them”, or “they didn’t pay their dues in the community”. That’s just elitist bullshit. It’s just a website trying to make a buck like everyone else in the world.
I recall when Eventhubs first went live when 3S was still king. They copied, word for word, the BradyGames SF:AC guide and didn’t even mention it. I haven’t been back since.
how much time did you spend on that post?
Well deserved article. reddit and others realize that linking back to sites and promoting them keeps them alive and producing more goodness. Because of the lack of education/smarts on the part of many, we forget to keep the community feeding back into itself and growing.
I hope you mean from a purely functional point of view, because eventhubs is ugly as fuck
Seriously though, this sucks. Maybe all this drama will make EH change their ways of posting.
15 mins on my lunch break. Does it matter?
Agreed, but SRK has Copy/Pasta’d someone’s work before.
Shoryuken - Pre-SBO Interview with Capcom National Winners Momochi, Kindevu and RF
But recently SRK has been straight.
EDIT: Maybe SRK asked and Team Gaming let them copy paste it.
Well reddit is a site based entirely on links, you go there looking for links, not for content on one specific item. Now if I want information on something specific I want all that information aggregated on one site. I don’t want to be redirected to another site, fuck that, and that sort of crap does piss people off.
How the information is presented is often more important than the actual information itself, especially for certain types of specific information. If it’s not organized and aggregated properly it’s essentially worthless to most of the people that would want to see it. The actual content here isn’t nearly as important as how it’s organized, centralized, and laid out.
Also, Nyoronoro, please stop bringin up your guides in like every post. That’s hardly the issue at hand here.
I have a right to defend the integrity of my work if someone claims that I copy and paste guides.
Also the Chindogg situation kind of worries me, because I went to the EH story where it happened and CT and Chin are saying two different things.
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix Tiers ? Character Rankings : EventHubs.com
Taken from our very own forums:rofl:
See… I hate it when people do this.
Ok, we get it that there’s no credit whatsoever on that eventhubs page. You’re saying it’s taken directly from srk forums. great.
Are you expecting us to all look through the forums and find it? why not spend the extra 2 minutes to link us to the thread that has that exact information?
Edit: LOOOOL while searching for the copied thread, the first thing I run into is this thread: http://shoryuken.com/f280/hd-remix-strategy-guide-move-listing-170134/
Edit2: I couldn’t find that HDR tier list information in the threads, so I checked the shoryuken wiki: http://shoryuken.com/wiki/index.php/Super_Street_Fighter_II_Turbo_HD_Remix#Tiers
perhaps you missed Chinndogs post where he gave an example of an interview that was not properly linked where he politely requested that credit be given and the proper links be provided and he had his comment deleted and his account banned. seems to me that even EH knows what’s up.
edit:
first off i agree you do have a right to defend your content. however i think your vehement defense is working against you as a lot of people are walking away with some misconceptions that your claiming all that content is yours. (obviously not your fault they can’t read very well).
as for the second point, please fill us in and not be so vague.
A solution I think would really help Maj is to get his a partnership account on Youtube so he can generate some profit from the ads there. Then it’s not a complete loss if somebody embeds his video, he can generate revenue. Youtube is notorious for denying partnership because the content is video games related. They lump it in with all the other playthrough videos and auto-deny partnership just based on that.
It’s not bad, because since Capcom owns the SF IP then they could sue if youtube and Maj try to make money off their game. The quick short term solution for Maj, since we can’t do anything about EventHubs (which is the ebaumsworld of the Fighting Game Community), is to get ahold of Seth Killian or anybody else at Capcom who can get the ball rolling and get him written permission to use the games to produce his own content, and then he can provide that to youtube and start to help him get back to his goal of getting minimum wage for the time he spends on his content.
Do you see my post in that story anywhere? My account is still banned and I was never given a reason. Another person had to stick up for me and CT pulled damage control. I’m not going to make another account because quite honestly I refuse to give any insight or news I may have to someone who refuses to credit the work of others that they took for their own profit.
I’ve known CT for a while. I played fantasy basketball with him for a few years, he’s a nice guy. However if this is how he allows his employees/mods/whatever to roll about copyrights then its clear that he is not concerned with giving credit where credit is due. This saddens me because basically it does confirm Maj’s accusations that he’s more concerned about making money than he is about giving credit where credit is due.
As for proof that someone asked earlier, look at the article below and try to find my comment. Its not there. Continue to scroll and see how someone stuck up for me and demanded SRK get credit. CT reluctantly gave credit (yet only linked shoryuken.com, not even the frontpage article itself) but I’m still banned. No reason, no apology, nothing. If that’s how its going to be then I’m just simply not going there anymore.

That’s the main conflict here. Why should anyone respect someone who doesn’t contribute to the community as significantly as Maj but get recognized with more credit than Maj? He doesn’t have an obligation, this is true…but while you say:
The point being made is that EH is getting recognition (both intellectually and financially) in a specific interest that exists on a close knit community, gives back on a regular basis and continues to make the community worth being a part of. I see no practice of that at EH. It’s like local small operation farmers who get their product picked up and then sold saying “From Safeway” rather than sourcing the farmer. That’s a bad analogy because EH doesn’t even purchase shit to own it.
I’m not saying as a community we should stay insular, kill and eat any newcomers to the island, otherwise we wouldn’t have grown as huge over the past decade. You may argue that within those 3 million visits, if even a fraction of those people continue on to become more involved with the community akin to what we normally see here, the community benefits. It probably means more recognition for the fighting game genre as a whole. However whatever good EH might be creating, clearly has been offset by people like Maj getting frustrated and no longer contributing to an important part of the community.
I’m going to quote someone from this thread that I found a bit contradictory, especially considering that they used one of the Cannon’s posts from 10 years ago:
We seem to see an importance of status over truly valuing the knowledge…or even worse a recognition of status at the expense of not valuing knowledge except financially. I’d rather not play theory fighter like EH does, hoping that give enough content you will benefit the community somehow even with 3 million visits a month but believe in the very real, very genuine and very concrete results of Maj’s contribution to the scene. A call out to everyone even EH, let’s make the scene stronger, not weaker.
Yeah because everytime I register and post on a website I take screenshots and video of the incident just in case
and it seems to me people are focusing too much on the plagiarism part of “eventhubs fragments the community while providing very little original of their own and plagiarizing the rest”. I read the part where Maj said someone on EH refused advice from John Choi and almost choked on my breakfast
