Maj quits and thanks eventhubs for stealing!

perhaps you missed my post asking chinndog to elaborate on his story. He made his post without anything to validate his words. A simple screenshot of his account being banned would have been sufficient to at least know that the part of his story where he got banned was true. Let’s wait and see CT says about it.

What I wrote: “Give us visual proof on your account being banned along with the reason eventhubs gave you.”

Is this so hard? All he has to do is try to log in with his banned account and eventhubs will display that the account is banned.

Thanks, I’m reading through it now.

Read my previous post. Unlike SRK where you’ll receive messages about being infracted, on EH you cannot even log in to your account. It looks like they basically delete the account instead of giving any indication that you’ve done something wrong. IMO that’s worse than banning because its an attempt of turning back the clock as if that user never existed.

Well, it is indeed disturbing. I didn’t expect something like this from eventhubs, which is why I was so skeptical at first. CT better give a us a good reason for this. Possibly along with an apology + unban + change in the way news articles are treated.

When I go to a store and they charge me money for shit all that crap does is piss people off.:sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad::sad:

When I make my record and sample shit and I have to get licensing, fuck that, and that sort of crap does piss people off.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Get the fuck out of here. It’s not your content. This whole Wild Wild West “It’s OK to rip off other people’s work because I’m lazy lol!” mentality is juvenile and (more importantly) destructive.

QQ!

If it’s organized and aggregated awesomely while ripping off the contributors, you starve your participants of resources and then everything decays. You fuck everybody else long-term for short-term laziness, at best.

What happened to working together? EventHubs and the GoForBroke ‘updates’ page always pissed me off. We’re a COMMUNITY. We stay viable as a community by acting like a community. Every single action that puts friction between you-the-viewer and the creator is damaging to the community. Quick links to people and resources are very helpful that way. Got some ideas for Maj? Share them with him! Got some feedback for him? Want to learn how to do it so you can become Maj Jr? Click the link and follow up!

Ripping people off to make the world’s best site layout is utterly destructive to everything you care about.

Yes.

Eventhubs is just an embellished blog, registering there doesn’t get you into any forums (they do have a forum, but it is separate - registering at EH won’t register you there) or get you a user CP of any sort, all it does is attach your name to your comments and keep other people from registering that name in the future.

So if you get banned from there more likely what they do is just wipe all your comments and delete you from the user database - no evidence unless you happened to expect it and took screenshots before/after or video of it happening.

What community? Just the Street Fighter community?

The front page articles here on SRK, particularly from Keits(kineda and MrWizard do them properly), is very guilty of not properly linking sources and lacking proper citation, as well. Proof is all over the place, even original authors to some information, have posted about lack of their info being properly cited in the comments for some of these articles and none of it changed or edited.

I personally think it’s to the benefit of all fighting gamers, to support all communities for fighting games, because it all grows.

Peace, Maj. You’re a huge figure in the community and it’s sad to see you step away thanks to the stupidity of others (some of which can be found in this thread!). Sad day for the FG community, indeed.

HA… now that’s funny.

Anyway banning Chindogg for making a request that many people have made in the past without any sort of trouble (please credit the correct source, or please credit me etc.) doesn’t make sense. I would request Chindogg to ask CT what’s going on but I think trust has been lost on both sides and I don’t see this issue resolving itself anytime soon.

Eventhubs mainly exists because it fills a void that srk wasn’t filling which is consistent fighting game news updates etc. Let’s be real the front page of srk was ass for a long ass time, there were hardly any updates on fg news besides srk evo news or a major announcement. If srk actually did something with their front page years ago like they are trying to do now eh would probably not exist.

I’m mixed on this issue seeing as how team spooky doesn’t have a website, anyone embedding our vids is actually good for us and helps us make residual money. The same thing that maj complains about actually benefits people like us. It’s not as simple as it seems. I’ve had complaints about eh in the past but at the same time I like their tourney battle logs and what not etc. You never got those kind of things on srk and it’s a community of players yet they all get usurped by one guy posting results lmao.

That being said the situation sounds like it sucks for maj and I feel for him. But why isn’t catalyst posting his side of the situation? Nyonoru keeps posting but he is not a admin or the owner of the site at all.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Chindogg did get banned, shit like that happens all the time. From personal experience I was banned from a Youtuber for telling people to visit gamersdye for the original GT5 videos. Youtuber basically just stole the vids and slapped his logo on it and told me to fuck off.

eh, fair enough. i did jump all over you pretty quickly

I don’t really play fighting games anymore and don’t really follow what’s going on so this is all new to me.

Why doesn’t Maj have a prominent splash screen at the start of his videos? Something along the lines of: “For more please visit SonicHurricane.com”. From what I’ve seen, he does do this, but the logo is only up there for under a second. Just keep it there for a while longer, and that should drive more traffic to his site and give him more recognition. Or hell, just permanently put a unobtrusive SonicHurricane.com banner at the bottom (or top) of the video, so nobody misses it.

Given that so many sites are linking to his content and giving him credit, it shouldn’t be too hard for him to find someone good at SEO to make it so that he is on the 1st page anytime someone googles “SF4”.

imo it sounds more of an issue of improving marketing and business acumen. Maj isn’t doing it for the money, but he could easily profit from his hard work, and there are probably lots of people who would be able to help him.

You should give yourself an infraction for using more than 10 smiles in 1 post.

INFRACTION NOW!

People should sign up for the youtube CVP tool.

When people rip off your work, you click a button and their content goes away.

That doesn’t relate at all to redirecting. Point blank redirecting to people to content from a site that functions on as an aggregate or hub is bad. It defeats the purpose. People prefer aggregates because of how they function. If it wasn’t for the aggregate site the content wouldn’t be worth a bucket of piss because nobody would consume it.

I should never have to go back to the source page to view the content, unless I want more information. Anything worth reading should be on the hub and should be organized. If I have to get redirected, your hub is a failure.

I take it you think youtube should direct you back to the home site each movie came from for everything. You’d kill youtube. Here is another hint, the content is only worth something because it is on youtube, if it wasn’t than no matter how good it was people wouldn’t view it.

And this is just how every hub on the internet works.

Exactly. I love SRK and SonicHurricane, but there are some things EH provides that are very useful that i can’t get anywhere else:

  • The tourney battle logs (which get updated live within seconds after each match once it gets near the top 8). I almost always have the EH log page open while watching a major stream.
  • Extremely accessible game info, all in 1 place. Instead of jumping around through SRK forums and wiki’s, EH has all the technical info all accessible within a few clicks: Frame data, character breakdowns, stamina / strength stats, etc.
  • Minimalist layout. A lot of websites don’t understand this, but simpler is better. Even something as basic as having a row of tabs for each fighting game, with the game’s logo, makes EH stand out as the more “comfortable” site.

The only issues i really have with EH are:

  1. they still have issues with pop-up ads, which is unacceptable for a website nowadays.
  2. the commenters are seriously retarded

The issue of them being shady with how they handle links and content credit is kinda speculative. You could spend all day finding examples of them being in the right, or in the wrong, or SRK and IPW doing the same things, or all 3 sites stealing and/or crediting each other with various things, etc. etc.

But overall, i think the good EH provides far outweighs the bad. Like Sabin said, embedded vids can be good for someone like TS, and bad for someone like Maj.

But EH is not violating any (written) laws. And until these rules are officially laid out and enforced, I don’t see any major issue with the way EH runs their site.

I really don’t believe Catalyst is doing anything intentionally shady. People are just picking out and linking to the worst examples. But they’re ignoring all the EH posts that help other sites, like their Community News roundup, which they do at least 4 times per week. And every Community News roundup post is nothing but links to other sites. None of the content is shown within the EH post (example)

“Over the last year, Sonic Hurricane has averaged around 95k hits per month, which probably makes me the most successful dedicated content producer in the community.”

Wow, that is awesome. If you factor in all the stolen hits, that’s quite a bit of trafic there. I’m thinking your site could of easily gotten something like 300K hits a month. Damn, I’d be mad if I were missing out on that type of trafic as well. Good work!! I didn’t realize your site was poppin off like it was.

You’ve had an impressive run and everything, but as you’ve said, that sort of trafic isn’t sustainable. So, I dunno, you had a good run and now is a good time to call it quits. Even without event hubs stealing your trafic, this coming year you’d be lucky to get around 50K hits a month mainly because

  1. Most of the new sf4 players who were once scrubby have improved a lot. These little 16 year old kids are comboing into ultra’s like it’s nothing. Nowdays they’re less likely to be reading things like the footsie handbook. They’re probably watching high level gods garden type videos-the expert level stuff
  2. There are tons of websites that do interviews often run by multiple people instead of just one person. Also most people prefer videos to text based interviews.
  3. forums are actually useful these days unlike when you started your website.

You were pioneer when you started your website cause there weren’t many websites like it around, but now there’s way too many similar websites. Not that that’s a bad thing just how it is. Like I said before, you had a good run with your website. It’s too bad things had to end the way they did.

Wow this is retarded. Nobody else out there is putting out content on the level that Maj does. His stuff is truly unique. And if you think that the footsies handbook is less high level than watching a godsgarden match, you don’t know anything about fighting games.

Look here:

Interview roundup from Seasons Beatings, else where : News : EventHubs.com

He links everything directly to the youtubes those interviews are stored. There’s not one link to each respective interviewers’ website that they conducted the interview for at all. Hell notice that not one interviewer was given credit in the article. You had to have Haunts from IPW do it in a comment:

This is blatant theft guys. There’s just no way to defend this at all. Not one credit was given to anyone for these interviews.

Just in case someone changes the site I’m posting a screenshot to make sure this theft is known.

@Chindogg

Hrm, this is all… unsettling. But wait, what’s so wrong with linking vids on Youtube. They’re on Youtube… they’re freebies. Am I gunna get blasted for linking these same vids on my Facebook?

Eventhubs is just generally more organized and welcoming than SRK, but is also more focused on SSFIV than anything else. That said, it has its purpose. No need to blast something like that, ESPECIALLY if you haven’t tried to be a part of it to see how it operates.

Bottom line: Maj posted blatant misinformation just cause EH linked his vids and gets more views from them. It’s not the vids in question that they get the views from tho, its just the organization of the info. And LOL to whoever said all EH does is Copy-Pasta things. Most if not all of the forum based character guides are made by the people working on the guides thru their own experiences. If anything is taken from another source, it’s credited.

Edit- Please note something else. The people in the comments and the people in the forums are 2 different people. There is a separate registration for each. So please, don’t judge EH based on what people say in the comments.
