and all this “he stole this” and “he stole that” is silly… for if ANY of you have EVER downloaded FREE music, you have no say in this argument… let Cat & Maj handle it… for the rest of you “steal” from the internet on a daily basis…
Great, now we have two people on EHs side: one that keeps bringing up guides, and one that keeps bringing up the shitty forums. None of which are relevant
Hits are visits to the site that brings ad revenue.
It seems he just wants to at least not lose money. Having a site costs money you know. And in particular, it hurts him that someone else is getting the money he could have had, for his work.
By your words, if we downloaded “free” music, why wouldn’t we have any say? If the music was made free from publishers for the audience then there’s no wrong here.
You see what I did? I totally knew you meant to say pirated or ripped music, but instead I decided to be a douchebag by using any means to win an debate, even if it means being completely literal and pointing out something that isn’t even related to the topic at hand. That’s how I know you have no argument because you have to pull out such a strawman move.
Could you read through the thread then please? I read through this in about 15 minutes. If you are truly interested in this supposed miscommunication then please just spend 15 minutes reading through it.

yawns next…
gotta love the friendly “feel” SRK users bring people… such a “welcoming” community!!!
i dont understand why all u guys are arguing about this…
just say thx maj, and keep it movin. his original post wasnt even rude or defamatory anyway, he was just explaining why he isnt so stoked and needs a break. boom.
its not about SRK members being “asses”, coz in all honesty the guides you EH guys brag about as your “original content” are barely worth mentioning, like…i appreciate the effort of writing them but damn man i read the Vega one and it has so much shit thats completely off, if someone followed the stuff there they’ll get SLAUGHTERED against any player worth their salt. I only read the Vega one so i wouldnt know if the other ones are any good, but i sure as hell wont be recommending that guide for anyone to read, coz it basically just covers generic and obvious stuff (which somehow still has somethings off…c.MP works as an full screen AntiAir, what?), and just has too many useless words to make it look like it has content worth reading, just try to read the “Cosmic Heel frametraps” section and you’ll see what i mean.
It comes down to ethics should Cat asked for permission yes. Should Maj have went to Cat first and disscussed it yes instead of createing drama yes. I dont understand why its so hard to digest. I think Cat wasnt trying to steal Maj money he was mistakely embedding the videos and info the wrong way.
ok…
You’re obviously here specifically to RIP the community. Why exactly should anyone be welcoming you?
EDIT:
ALSO:
Is this guy here? He seems like so much FUN!
^_-;
Has eventhubs ever organized tournaments that have attracted hundreds, possibly even up to thousands of players from around the world?
Do they run their own streams or conduct interviews with the top players or industry insiders like S-Kill? Podcasts?
Do they have people like James Chen, UltraDavid, SkiSonic, MarkMan, etc volunteering their time to commentate on streams?
Do they have their own contributors like Reno and Az living in Japan to provide translations of blogs and famitsu articles as well as traveling to arcade location tests for first hand reports?
Do they even make their own combo videos?
Other than aggregating news and re-writing character matchups and guides you could find anywhere else, do they do anything to build the FG community and draw in more players?
Just wondering.
I don’t know what you mean by next. Unless somehow you’re speaking down to me from your high stack of legally purchased musical albums, you can’t continue this discussion either fellow music downloader. Or is my presumptuous attitude of your music listening activities wrong and just a blanket statement…wait:
I know that EH has some posters that echo such hospitality. To the point of calling Maj an asshole for his moderate and, by internet standards, level headed post. I would say: “If somehow you represent what EH has to offer I want nothing to do with it,” but apparently there seems to be some members in EH actually trying to resolve this without asshole representatives like us adding fuel to the fire, just like how a few of us are hoping this will also get resolved. If we keep posting, it’s no longer about a big fuck you to you or me, but just fucking over the entire community. For their sake I’m willing to leave this discussion hoping our copyright theory fighter doesn’t drown out what legitimate discussion could happen here or there. You should too if you even care about the fighting game community.

No…
Edit: Canadians…
EHT use to run online tournies but knowing SRK online tournies are frowned upon.
My attempt at diplomacy. Hell if you can get EH to actually start contributing to the community this whole thing could be a plus.

Actually, this cuts right to the heart of why I find this issue distasteful.
I actually never have illegally downloaded music. Why? The artists I enjoy are generally all very niche. I really like what they do. I like paying them to do what they do. I like supporting them so they are able to continue doing what it is that they do. I used to be very active in the electronic dance music community, both as an artist and as a promoter. I very much believe in supporting the scene that supports you.
Not that I’m saying I have every illegally acquired things from the internet, but for sake of argument, I will say that if I were to illegally download material from the net, it would be from companies that I don’t really care about. It would be from communities I don’t give a shit about. It would be from people I don’t really give a shit about.
The fighting game community is very much a grassroots scene. Without the community, there is nothing. If not for people sticking together, we wouldn’t have the resurgence that we have now.
I have a choice. I can support the fighting game community that supports the grassroots scene or I can support the fighting game community that treats the work of longstanding members of the fighting game community like a pirated Harry Potter DVD.
I know how I will choose. How about you?
I read that just a few minutes ago. Thank you Galatic.

I thought this was about money not people contributeing more to sites. I think if Cat gave SH more hits I think Maj would be happier compared to EH haveing more orginal stuff like combo videos.
Stirfri564: Then you’re dumb… it’s not about the money. Read any of my other posts.
All this shit is unrelated to the issue. This isn’t some dick measuring contest between SRK and EH. If you want to turn it into a dick measuring contest, then I’d say aggregating fighting game news and information is more than 95% of the people posting in this thread have done.
Wasn’t my intention. I know the real issue is that the system for publishing content is broken, it benefits the hub sites more than the content provider. The best solution is to provide a snippet, then linking to the whole article. But when it comes to videos there’s no system in place so that only the first 10-15 seconds are shown before you have to click through to watch the rest.
Disabling embedding doesn’t help because it prevents you from embedding your own videos on your own site. Youtube won’t allow a partnership because the videos are from video games. Capcom doesn’t have a Machinima license like Blizzard.
I don’t visit eventhubs, I first noticed them when they were writing mostly SF3 related guides but never bothered to return since. Honestly eventhubs just reminds me of kotaku and those gawker media blog sites that collects and posts news from a multitude of sources. However, despite their practice kotaku still produces some original content. So knowing that, plus reading this part of Maj’s post.
It?s a sad state of affairs when the only person profiting from all this work is the guy who?s never produced a shred of original content… and continuing for the next few paragraphs, is what led me to ask those questions.
I know nothing about the comparative merits of the case, and don’t really care.
Flouncy “I QUIT! Please beg me not to!” posts always leave a dirty taste in ones mouth.
