Maj quits and thanks eventhubs for stealing!

Except blizzard publicly allows their game to be used for other people to make content under a few rules outlined here:
WoW -> Community -> Letter to Machinimator

This allows people like Day9, husky, hd, etc to make their videos, get youtube partnership, and make money off views.

Maj has been offered youtube partnership through their automated system (i.e. he gets enough views) but its always automatically denied based on the fact its a video game. That’s it, and theres no way to appeal or talk to somebody directly about it. Since Capcom doesn’t have a similar letter as blizzard, youtube can’t allow him to profit off the content and thus he will never make money from youtube video views.

He’s tried forever to get youtube to approve his account, but they just won’t. So he’s fucked, which is why I mentioned that’s not a solution and we need to rectify this with capcom about 3-4 pages back

I missed your post. Damn that seriously sucks and is stupid and short sighted on Capcom’s part. Is there realistically anyway we could get Capcom to set up a similar agreement? Someone with a lot of influence… say sirlin or s-kill?

there is still blip tv

I swear: The way the content was reposted on Eventhubs, I sincerely thought it was a partnership, or someone from SRK had, in good standing, branched out. Wow.

qft,

Here is a Rose vs. Guile match up found in the Rose thread int he central character section… I did this match up info myself…

*"Match Up

vs Guile

I recommend starting this round with a back dash into low block… if he Sonic Booms you can block it, you wont have time to reflect it and if he jumps you can hold down back corner and press HP for your anti air… once distance is created you can easily out turtle Guile and get the health lead by LP reflecting and mixing it up with MP Reflect and EX Soul Sparks… you should be getting your EX meter built at a much faster rate then Guile… so sit on your health lead and dont rush him down… make him come to you… once he actually advances towards you more then likely he’ll be following a LP(slow) Sonic Boom so you can either reflect the projectile at him or up depending on if he jumps… also dont try to out melee Guile, it wont happen… instead you should be back dashing when stuck in block stun from block strings… this will also stop any tick throws from happening to you… also dont be afraid to be patient when up close to Guile… sit and block… most Guile players are itching to do the Flash Kick… sometimes it is best to wait/bait out his Flash Kick… keep that in mind…

whenever you reset Guile dont be afraid to do a close standing MK on his reset… more then likely your opponent wasnt ready for the reset so he wont be charging and instead will attempt to tech your throw that he is assuming is coming because you are so close to him… Rose close standing MK totally beats out ANY throw… normal, command, ultra, or super… now you can also combo your MK into a Soul Spiral… or to play it safe so to speak you can throw your opponent right after the MK regardless if he blocked it or got hit by it… remember this… now Rose doesnt have very many resets but a basic one is her anti air with duck HP… this resets characters… remember this… another good reset to remember is whenever you knock down Guile with your Soul Spiral you can cross him up with a jump in if he chooses to quick stand… your cross up will knock him out of his Flash Kick if he decided to wake up with it and reset him while keeping you untouched behind him waiting for him to land out of his flipping animation into reset position (this can also work on Ryu, Ken, Akuma, & Sagat)… I just fed you 2 reset options Rose has…

now duck HP is a good anti air… but some Guile players empty jump and it can make this anti air whiff at times… the reason the Guile is empty jumping is because he was banking on you jumping and he wanted the air throw… anyways, if you expect an empty jump or a jump from a lil bit of distance where duck HP wouldnt work, you should slide kick up under his jump in and go into a throw… Rose slide kick has the ability to travel under jump ins…

once we score a knock down let’s see what options we have on Mr. Guile… his Flash Kick is a good wake up option he has… well guess what??? a well timed slide on his wake up can beat out his Flash Kick on start up as long as it isnt an EX Flash Kick… remember this… now Guile wont wish to Flash Kick on wake up anymore… thats a good thing, now we can use our mixs up on him… on his wake up we can either throw, close standing MK into Soul Spiral on hit or throw on hit or block, slide kick into throw, slide kick into back dash into slide kick (sounds crazy but it works), or Soul Spiral once/if Guile gets hip and tries to start back dashing or focus attacking on wake up… now your last option to use on Guile for his wake up, which i recommend saving until you see he has an Ultra, is standing in his face on his wake up and then jumping forward and pressing MK… this is GOLD!!! whatever Guile decided to do, he will whiff!!! more importantly if you played your cards right and saved this spot until he had an ultra he wont see if coming because he got use to Rose slide kicking/close st MK/throw/back dash/neutral jumping him so much… so his answer is any Ultra… both will stop ALL that… but it wont stop the quick jump MK over him and you get to watch him do silly flips or play with his non moving big sonic bomb thingy while you are behind him measuring your next attack/punish…

hope this guild helps the Rose players with the Guile match up!!!

P.S. it is HIGHLY recommended not to try and EX reflect his EX Sonic Booms… they come out very fast!!! now if you can read your opponent and you just KNOW a EX Sonic Boom is coming, by all means EX reflect it!!! I promise you this, he WONT see that counter coming!!! lol…"*

none of this was stolen from SRK… none of it… my words…

This is how the internet works. Do you hate google, do you hate blogs, do you hate news feeds, do you hate youtube? They are all the same here, you are railing agains the internet.

Walmart doesn’t ruin communities, people ruin communities. The fact remains that a distribution method is more important than the actual content or product in virtually every case.

That Maj produces a product that his consumers have decided isn’t worth a trip to his page and that they’d rather consume it at a hub means two things 1.) they are normal consumers and just picked a hub as logical thinkers, 2.) perhaps his product doesn’t warrant his own site. This is fine, it’s the normal way of things. I can get fish from the fishermans warf or from the super market, guess where I’m going!

False, youtube lets me host anything. I can put other peoples stuff up under my channel there. Odds are it will get more hits than the original source because youtube is a hub.

This does happen, and beyond that do you think people care or check for the producer there, they don’t. They go to a place to get something and if it is offered they buy it, creation and source means nothing, it being availible means all.

Bad logic and not proven. I’d never know about or care for anything that wasn’t on EH, it’s not worth the time. Since it’s a hub I go to I’ll check it there, if it had a redirect I’d stop viewing it there. If I can’t get it directly on a hub, not worth my time and it might as well not exist, this is why hubs exist.

It would be to an extent. But lets get real, how many papers do you read? How many do you order? I got to a few select hubs that have the news I want and view it there, if it’s not there I’m not going to read it, and that’s how things are today. The quality of the content doesn’t matter, and the few papers that have removed themselves from it I no longer read, they lost money and died.

Why bother going to multiple sources when a single one makes it easy? That’s what the internet makes possible.

This has been bothering Maj for a long time. Its a combination of people ripping his videos and uploading them as part of their own. There is probably like 20 mirrors of his ryu video on youtube.

Even if Maj doesn’t upload the video to youtube and uses some other service to stream his videos. People like those at EH will just rip the video and upload it to youtube themselves and won’t bother siting Maj or whomever the content author originally was.

I found videos of mine mirrored all over the place, japan streaming sites, spain etc… Of course no one bothers to ask for permission. if I bothered to put up some SSF4 content it’d probably be ripped and put on EH too. All of course without asking permission.

As for adding watermarks or logos, what would be the point? People will either rip it anyway, or go through a process to DL the video, crop out the watermarks if possible, delete the credits and upload it as their own. Its happened before and it’ll happen again.

But what will happen if more content creators like Maj stop creating works? What will EH do? They don’t have players themselves that they can upload, they don’t have any combo creators to make videos, they don’t have anything. The site will fall because they pissed off the original authors. They take and take but don’t give anything back to the people that they’re taking from. Maj is upset with that, I’d be upset with that if I were in his place and so would EH if people starting stealing their content without asking.

I guess this article explains it all.

OC

That guide is poorly written and disorganized. The fact that you quoted it as an example of what good EH content looks like is worrisome.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to stop you here, because I have no idea what you’re getting at (or you don’t. Whatever). Let’s take this step by step.

You just called my statement about YouTube being a hosting site false, and then said it hosts stuff. Only thing I can get out of this is, that YouTube does not host anything, unless it’s hosting anything. But since my statement is false, and therefore it doesn’t, that would make your statement false, but true because, ah fuck it I just had an aneurysm.

Yeah, sure. Go ahead. I’m not making vids to make money, so by all means. Copy them and make no money off them either. You sure showed me. I bang my fist on my desk in frustration. If only there were a way to report copyright infringement to YouTube and have the unauthorized copies taken down. But alas, I know not of such a method of retribution.

Oh, of course. The odds (statistically proven somewhere, I’m sure) are that your copy of the video I made and uploaded is going to get more hits, because YouTube is a hub to… where, exactly? Every recommendation I see when looking at a vid is to another video on YouTube. So YouTube is a hub to… itself? You exit YouTube and enter YouTube? Since when did Google have that kind of inter-dimensional internet technology? Damn you, Google!

But seriously, how far into your colon did Lemmywinks go to pull the claim of odds dictating your copy getting more hits than my original?

funny article but he does make a compelling argument

but in our lifetimes we don’t have to worry. after we die, AI will probably be smart enough to do all our jobs, from manufacturing, services, and art, thus rendering every human obsolete, including whatever misguided Dr Light mother fucker invents the first intelligent robot. solution? become cyborgs. change, or fight the change and lose. im gonna have to side with obama on this one.

as a Rose player, I can’t help but say there’s a lot of things wrong here. But that’s not the point of this thread.

I feel where Maj comes from and I feel he also handled it wrong. Considering he met the guy at Evo, I would think emailing or contacting him about this would be the first step. If he didn’t get a response or something to his liking, then by all means, blog out the rant. I know he’s losing business and money but that’s more of a reason to talk in a rather grown up way as opposed to ranting on about it via blog.

I respect Maj for his combo vids and all his guides but I feel who will really lose out is the community as a whole. Especially if we’re getting OG contributers in the Fighting game community getting all upset because they’re losing revenue off their work.

by all means please point out my mistakes… for I am a Rose player and that match up i wrote is pretty on hit… i would like to know my mistakes my good man…

You guys are seriously missing the point in all this. It’s more than the stealing, it’s more than the money. Those are just factors, and you guys are only arguing a very narrow fraction of what the big problem in all of this is.

And it’s funny because the EH people are trying to defend these small fractions, with the dumbest possible things possible. OH YOU COMPILED THE THROW RANGE DATA ON YOUR GUYS’ OWN? Congrats… now let me ask, why did you do this? It was obvious, it already existed. Why recreate something, that had already existed, and what gave you the idea to recreate it anyways? OH, BECAUSE IT ALREADY EXISTED.

You wrote, a vega match up guide… you wrote it… congratulations. Now… what is this based off of. Even if you took the time to write it yourself, the majority of the information you gathered to write it, was not created and devised by you. As the guide is pretty poorly written and there’s some parts with good info (which is incredibly similar to other guides not word for word, but if you follow the logic chain in where it begins and where it ends its the same model) and other parts which lack HUGELY in terms of depth. So yes, it is obvious you “wrote” it on your own, but you did not devise it on your own. But pat yourself on the back on making a crappy guide, kudos to you.

You’re all missing the big picture. Eventhubs as a whole, is something that is bad for the community in how and why it exists. The site itself does not CONTRIBUTE to the community. All it does is compile other people’s work. It gets ideas for original content… by copying other people’s work. No one gives a fuck if three different website post NEWS. What matters is the REAL ORIGINAL CONTENT. Things like interviews, specialty guides about specific things that are really broken down. I can spend an hour and write a crappy as hell guide with no real depth as well. Find one thing even close to Maj’s footsies guide. Or John Choi’s strat guide about how to play. Things that go really in depth to even pursue the metagame of street fighter. EH’s “original” content is just bad copies of already existing things. So to state EH has “original content” is a lie.

But again, that’s still not the main point. Maj is someone who worked for the community. Everything that guy did was for the community. Combo vids, strats, interviews, design ideas and trying to figure out dumb crap that no one would ever use but someone might find cool. I remember sitting in his car at In N’ Out talking for stupid ass shit in games for hours. About unnoticed frames in games where characters look dumb or trying to figure out shit like background animations clashing with game play… for no reason other than to get info to release to people.

Eventhubs doesn’t do shit for this community. Eventhubs is is seriously about taking shit that people want and trying to make money off of it, regardless of where it’s from. It’s not about credit, it’s not about money, it’s about respecting the community. It’s about not being greedy assholes that care about the community they’re a part of. There’s a reason almost all of the older players think EH is a god damned joke and no one respects them or even thinks of them as part of the community. Because they’re not.

I haven’t caught up reading every single page on this thread yet but IMHO this is a serious issue.

From what I understand, the original content creators (like Maj) just don’t get the credit that they deserve. “Hubs” like Eventhubs are doing just that by compiling content that was originally made by content creators (like Maj and others here on SRK) and putting it together and posting it on their site. From there, Eventhubs gets the profit with all the hits while the original content creators lose out.

Look at all the tech blogs out there like Engadget. They also get information from other sources but at least give proper credit by posting part of an article and provide the reader(s) a link to the original article in its entirety. IMHO that’s how it should be done sites like Eventhubs don’t do that. IMHO EH needs to get their act together and make things right ASAP while trying to make up for the losses of others for the content that they “stole” by the original content creators of whatever article/information was posted on their site.

Okay that’s it for now. I’m going to start on page one of this thread in a bit.

I keep lookin’ at this thread and im not sure why, probably cause its at the top. Can someone clear something up for me? Is this dude Maj trying to earn a living doing these vids or whatever it is he does or does he just do it in his spare time for fun? Does this other site sell his vids/guides and shit?

Does “hits” = money?

No relation.

Usually it comes to “Community News Roundup” full of links like this.
Community news roundup for November 11th : News : EventHubs.com
Community news roundup for September 20th : News : EventHubs.com
I like these the most personally. I think they give the most incentives to click on links.

Having worked for tech sites in the past you’re a bit wrong. The argument tossed around is simple “you are making money off my content” the counter is “people wouldn’t really see your content if it wasn’t for my site” both are true. In the end the hub always consumes the actual site because content is worthless and moronic without a distribution model, unless the content is good enough and run well enough to exist on it’s own, the more specific the content is the more worthless it is because of a smaller audience.

Put simply, what a specific site offers in and of itself is worthless crap if it’s not seen, and it will only be seen with a major hub. Thus, EH is a vastly better product, better for the users, and better for all, than anything SH publishes, by nature. If the content SH pushes was worth standing on it’s own, there wouldn’t be a problem. There is a problem because other than fanatics, nobody would bother with what’s there.

For the vast majority of people, ie those that don’t go to his site, it won’t matter what his content is replaced with on EH, because his content was never the issue, it only mattered because it was there. So this is him causing a tempest in a teapot, again, welcome to the net.

To me it just sounds like an “I am special and the rules don’t apply to me” bunch of crap.
