MadCatZ PS3 TE FightStick: PC - Xp- vista- win7 32-64bit (read 1st post)

The PS3 TE Stick IS compatible with PC. I play on GGPO/Zsnes with it all the time.
Might just be an issue with your PC (Os version/drivers?/SP version/others).
Such things can happen with any peripheral hardware from any company.

While I agree that it is technically PC compatible, lets not trivialize the situation.

I read for a fact, from madcatz, the PS3 stick WAS ps3 compatible. That is why I ordered it, I do some serious mame gaming.

As I got wrapped up in school work, I completely missed release date, and I just got around to buying one last week. Should I have done searches to see if any thing had changed since it was announced? Sure, maybe, but pc compatibility isnt fucking rocket science man. I was a little pissed when I came here after pulling the trigger, reading the incompatibility with OHCI.

However, I do agree, in a sense, youre right. It is technically pc compatible. I can plug it into my notebook without issue. I can now use it on my pc going through a cheap ass via card. But it is a blunder on MadCatz part - but I could also see how they may miss it. Most business PC’s are intel w/ intel south bridges, so I completely believe they couldve tested it on 5 years worth of dells, gateways, etc at their offices and it pass every time.

Ultimately - does it perform well enough in mame to warrant a $10 usb card purchase? You bet your ass it does. Mame hobbyists will have no problem putting out the extra dough. But is it a hassle nonetheless? yeah, actually it is.

I feel for those, like myself, who were disappointed when they got home. But talking about a civil suit is a little over the top. It was an unfortunate thing that slipped through the cracks, and working at a dev firm, I could seriously see how this could happen. Its still a great stick, and a work around is available for $10 and a three day wait.

Hell if you got xp, the work around is less than $5.

MarkMan never told us that it was based purely on his own testing and that it never officially supported the PC. All he said that it was PC compatible, even after all the times it was asked.

Now, do you really think that someone would realistically bother asking MadCatz about PC compatibility after already hearing about it from one of their own employees? Let’s not forget that the FAQ never said anything about not supporting the PC up until yesterday.

HRAP3 FTW  Sold my madcatz stick a long time ago…

so all you need is a usb card with a VIA chipset right? Do you guys think this one would work? It’s pretty cheap and has free shipping at the moment. Sorry mods of I’m not supposed to post links, tell me and I’ll take it down.

Yep, vista compatible too

I cannot speak for everyone, but even though you did not say they were ā€œspecificallyā€ used for PCs, if someone says a product will work on PCs, one usually expects them to work on ā€˜all’ PCs. Now if you meant they work on ā€˜some’ PCs and just didn’t state that, then you got me there, ā€œduly notedā€¦ā€

Not sure I understand… If the FAQ’s are on the ā€œOfficialā€ Madcatz website why shouldn’t we ā€˜view’ it as the "Official statement from Madcatz? Is information on the Official website not accurate? If it is not accurate, shouldn’t it be corrected accordingly? If you are talking about a different set of FAQ’s I appologize, just trying to understand the logic.

Markman is referring to the FAQ on this site which is unofficial. You won’t find PC support mentioned on any of the Madcatz site or product box, it’s an undocumented feature with a lot of the USB peripherals.

Markman tested on his PC and it works, so it was pretty safe for him and probably everyone else to assume it had PC support out of box. USB is pretty standard stuff after all, plug 'n plug, but who knew there was two different incompatible USB standards UHCI and OHCI? if anyone is to blame, it’s Intel and the others company for creating two different incompatible USB standards.

So is it safe to say that these sticks aren’t working with AMD processors unless we buy those ubs cards?

Both my SE and TE work flawlesly on my PC, tested it on GGPO and played SF:IV on PC today.

No, its motherboard chipset, independent of the processor. AMD systems with a via motherboard will work.

So, the guy who said it was due to some agreement with Microsoft was right

I guess it’s up to hackers now.

What concerns me is, what will happen to the people who have the PS3 SE/TE sticks and decide to get the PC version of the same.

Do they have to buy another stick just to be able to play the PC version?

No…

I have good update tho -

I just got my 360 TE in the mail today. Since I have the incompatible Nvidia 750i chipset, I figured I would see if they had the same pcb.

No go, I plugged the 360 te in, and it worked without a driver install on both the nvidia usb port and via add in card.

So reverse engineering MS driver and changing the hardware address is out of the question.

So, is anyone willing to open up their PS3 fightstick TE and get me the PCB info?

edit - and this quote from madcatz is bullshit -

"At this time we have found that computers with Nvidia chipsets are not
compatible with the PS3 fightsticks.

We are looking into ways to make the PS3 fightsticks work for PC, and
any news regarding this would be posted on our online store first.

Please understand that the intended use for the PS3 fightstick is for it
to work with the PS3. The Xbox 360 works for the PC only because
Microsoft PCs can recognize the stick as a regular controller once a
driver is downloaded. Developing a driver now for the PS3 version that
would allow it to work for the PC will violate our licensing agreement
with Microsoft, as they are two competing companies. "

Ok fine then, release an open source driver for linux, which is a non-competitive platform, and let us devs do our thing in bringing it to the windows platform.

Let me know how it works, I might get ti if it works.

Not trying to be rude, but I could not imagine that an employee would want to give comments on their company products publicly, without some type of authorization from the employer.

I think it might be an issue with service pack 3. My SE fightstick worked on my PC when I got it at launch in February, I tested it out on Mame. However, now when I connect it to my PC, only the buttons work, the joystick doesn’t register at all. I had SP2 back then now I’m on SP3. I’m going to try to find another PC with SP2 to see if my stick will work on it.

Just tell us your motherboard model number instead of wasting time.

No, check the hardware address - it connects through UHCI, while the xbox controller connects through OHCI, the most common interface.

Here is my motherboard information:

Chipset
P965
Motherboard
Manufacturer: Asus
Motherboard Name: P5BW-LA
HP/Compaq motherboard name: Basswood-UL8E

Sorry, I don’t know how to check the hardware address.
