Mad Men Thread (Season 3 begins 8/16 on AMC)

i’m pretty sure duck is drinking again and is fit to spiral out of control any minute, it’s just a question of whether peggy gets sucked into his plans or not.

i’m really interested to see where this sale of the company is going to lead.

Sterling-Cooper-Draper-Price

“Peggy, be a dear and get me some coffee.”

“No.”

Mad Men is the best show on basic cable right now.

Oh man, where to start?
The coup could only be compared to Ocean’s Eleven: Corporate Style. Watching the higher ups actually doing grunt work was amusing, especially Sterling who was lackadaisical.

That dialogue exchange between Peggy and Don was touching, Draper made her aware of her value- both as an employee and a person.

The real tear-jerker was the scene where Betty and Don were trying explain their divorce, with failed results. I could feel the emotionality exude painfully from the screen, those kids were hurting.
brilliant finale, indeed.

roger speaks in quotables lol

I can’t stop thinking about that episode. It was so good. This season was the best so far, and the last few eps were all outstanding.

I’m still in love with season 2 since it was the first one I watched, but god damn this show is a beast. That last episode was one of the best ones period, maybe my favorite of the series.

my dude

Spoiler

I have to say I’m a bit disappointed they didn’t call up my man Sal to complete the squad.

UGHHHH Why is this show so good.

Coffee line was brilliant.

The way everyones relationships were forced to change so quickly…

“Welcome to Sterling-Cooper-Draper-Price”

“YOU’RE FIRED FOR LACK OF CHARACTER”
“Oh very well, Merry Christmas”

I just realized his name was “Saint John”, pronounced “Sinjin”.

They cant re-hire sal, since lucky strike is their biggest/most important account now.

Fixed. :bgrin:

Ah, that’s right. I forgot about the guy from the cig company’s kid was the one who got Sal fired.

I will comment more tomorrow when I have more time to write, but without a doubt one of the best season finales I’ve ever seen!

I laughed so hard at that exchange, the timing of it was perfect.

Ok, so I figure at this point, if you are reading this thread, you’ve seen the finale, so here’s my thoughts:

As I said previously, and as others have said, this was one of the best season finales I’ve ever seen for a show. Not only was the writing and acting perfect, it set up what is going to be an amazing 4th season. The building of the company is setting the show up for at least a few more brilliant seasons.

Betty is fucking loony. We know this, but holy fuck. I thought Don was bad, but Betty truly does not care about anyone but her. It broke my heart when they told the kids. It was so real and agonizing. Betty doesn’t care what this is going to do to the kids, she only cares about herself. Yeah, Don cheats, but he keeps that shit on the DL for his family. I’m not saying he’s a saint, but he does what he needs to. Betty could have done the same, but she felt “cheap” about it and had to ruin her family to get what she wants.

I knew Don would get Peggy, she’s the female lead on the show. However, she didn’t make it easy for Don. When Don said “No, I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to hire you…” I knew she was his.

Of course the coffee line was brilliant, as well as the firing scene, but I also love when Cooper told Harry that they would have to lock him in the storage closet. So many quality lines in this episode, both on the humorous side and on the serious side. I seriously want to go home and watch it again it was so good.

man i tried to give betsy the benefit of the doubt…but man fuck her, i hope her new husband beats her. i was really hoping don would be able to strong arm some sense into her or at least keep the house, but fuck man…

oh well, in terms of sterling cooper…it was an interesting play by don and the boys. i like that roger and don are moving on good terms these days bcuz that duo was one of the best things about the first 2seasons, i love roger’s “i’m rich and don’t care about anything but booze & broads” swag.

are you kidding?

yes, yes we are, happy birthday.

ROFL

Indeed. This was such a heartbreaking scene I couldn’t keep myself from realizing this was just a show. What I hate about Betty is that she knows what she’s doing is selfish (hence the crying) but she does her evil deed regardless.

At least Don can now plow through every woman in the tri-state area.

Wow, too much Betty hate. Not only was Don cheating on her, God only knows how many times during their marriage, but then she found out he wasn’t even the person he said he was, and was squirreling away money from the family.

Sure she’s nuts, but I have a hard time holding her wanting a divorce against her. The problem is that she’s still as crazy as she was the day before, and now she’s jumping into something new with someone she doesn’t even know.

watching the best of mad men (season 1) marathon on A&E right now…forgot how awesome don draper is. can’t wait for more of the gospel of draper to be revealed.

AMC - Story Matters Here

New season starts on the 25th. Can we get a thread title change?

Anyway, been watching season 2 again. I have to say, I liked that Colin Hanks character, the priest.

And it’s funny how you notice little things that you missed before. In that episode where they talk about Marilyn Monroe dying, Draper and Peggy are in the elevator (w/ Hollis assist, holding it down for black people in this show), and Draper says “suicide is a very upsetting thing.” I didn’t think anything of it, but then I remembered how Draper’s brother killed himself in the first season.

Yeah there are a lot of subtleties I missed watching the show the first time around. Like in season one when Cooper told Joan not to go out with older men again (she had an older companion with him) during Sterling’s heart attack, and then repeated it a second time so Joan knew who specifically he was referring to in season 1.

Or how Betty continued to horseride in season 2 after finding out she’s pregnant after the doctor forbade her to, because she wanted to terminate the pregnancy.

you guys are paying attention to the wrong minute details. how about after don drops off “dick wittman” to his family and he’s standing there in clear turmoil, the chick on the train tells him to forget about that “boy in the box” and then puts her hand on his and buys him a drink…that he fucks her is implied. that draper is one good looking man.

That wasn’t anything special though. It was just an obvious scene of him leaving his life behind.
