Mad Men Thread (Season 3 begins 8/16 on AMC)

Those eyes man, they practically scream, “freak.”

Even if Sal was going a humping spree (which I’d have to rewatch the ep to confirm), the point was that the cigarette bandit tried to use his authority to score- quid pro quo, as it were. Sal was cornered in more ways than one.

Watching the most recent episode. Betty…

oh no

Spoiler

Just found the key to Don’s droor.

Shit is going down.

And Draper…

Don

Spoiler

He’s really building a fake life with this teacher chick. She’s really falling for him, though. When she introduced him to her brother I was like “oh shit, she wants him to meet the family, this is bad.” And then when she sowed up on the train…

Oh Peggy, so smart and diplomatic.

Betty

Spoiler

is going to blow a gasket. You’d think Don would be a little more careful though. I can’t imagine it being wise keeping thousands of dollars in a small desk drawer either.

It’s kind of amazing how Don justifies his infidelities, I have a feeling Ms. teacher lady is going to expose/humiliate him in some fashion.

I agree with WS. I think the teacher is going to bring much drama to the Draper household. That coupled with Betty’s eventual confrontation of the contents of the shoebox…the season finale is going to be insane, I can feel it already…

well he was obviously keeping the cash so he could bail at the drop of a hat. but holy fuck…talk about building suspense for the next episode. i think the teacher is a distraction, both for the audience and don. between hilton, the new baby, his fake life and the random office shenanigans don already had a full plate, borderline falling in love with this teacher has him slipping on his game, if don isn’t off begging the hot teacher i think he’d sniff out that betty has him in the crosshairs.

oh and i’m betting the next episode opens up with don on the ropes trying to handle the crisis and then backtracks to show what happened.

What do you guys think about the hang-up phone call? If it wasn’t the mayor’s aid guy, then maybe it really was teacher girl, and she’s going on psycho on his shit?

Or maybe it was just a coincidence, to show how nervous both Don and Betty are.

It was the ghost of Don’s brother…

Mental illness seems to be intrinsic in that teacher girl’s family so it’s likely that she called.

That was my favorite scene too, both were wrapped in fear and dread.

BTW, wtf ever happened to the jai alai storyline?

It went the same direction the guy’s business was heading- south.

No discussion yet of last nights ep?

just to be safe

[details=Spoiler]I was sort of surprised Don came out with everything so honestly. I have mixed feelings about where the teacher story is going to go. She seemed upset but rational about it. That scares me.

Don finally admits his guilt over his brother. Betty seems surrpisingly adult about the whole thing.[/details]

That was a pretty baller episode.

about Don-

Spoiler

What really struck me is that when the teacher chick asked if they wouldn’t seeing each other, Don answered “not right now.” Like, even after all that…

Yeah, I’m not sure what Don’s thinking at this point. He basically opened up his most intimate secret to his wife (finally), so I think he’s starting to admit to himself how much he actually cares for her and his family. Who knows though, this is Don Draper afterall…

Don showing the totality of his emotions was quite a surprise- but also absolutely necessary in maintaining a relationship with his wife.

I’ve realized Don likes to set up safety nets in his life, which is why he still wants to keep teacher chick on the backburner. I don’t know whether it’s wise or just plain cowardice.

Last thing to note, men really had power in the marital legal system in those days!

I’m interested to see how they end the season…and how Joan will end up at Sterling Cooper again…

As long as she’s at a place where I can see splendid figure I’m good.:lovin:

Does anyone else think that Sterling sees Joan as the one, not his wife?

i just caught up on mad men and curb…

yeah this week’s episode was nuts, i’m almost positive that betty was showing the calm before the storm. she’s def about to do some stupid shit. roger sterling was back to his likable self this episode, so that was also good.

I think he finds her endearing and charming, she’s like that hot female friend who pals around with your girlfriend. If he wanted to truly act he would’ve all these past seasons.

Oh yeah and kudos to Roger for actually staying faithful for once, milfy dog food lady was pretty hot and laying it on thick.

Roger loves his wife, but like Don, he’s not really happy. Whether or not he’ll cheat in the near future I don’t know, but I think that door is cracked open, especially for Joan. Then again, Joan is committed to her husband, and what turns on a lot of men is the fact that she’ll absolutely say no if she feels like it, so maybe the odds of that particular coupling are low.

Speaking of Joan, maybe she’ll end up working for Duck? I’m not sure where the whole thing with Duck is going, there’s going to be big shakes in these next few episodes with him, I think, since they are the last 2 eps of the season (over so soon!)
