This is the thread dedicated to this great show on AMC. Whether you watch it for the awesome DAT ASS of Christin Hendricks or you just like watching Donald Draper kick ass and chew bubble gum and also drink 2 fifths of whiskey an episode post it up. I am anxiously awaiting the beginning of Season 3.
i’m not gay, but don draper is one good looking man. i’m not even gonna “no homo” that statement bcuz it’s just so true.
don’s wife, january jones i think her name is, is fine as shit as well.
the only “downside” is that it’s not HBO so they could curse, really excited to see what’s gonna happen this season. jon hamm was on bill simmons’ podcast a few days ago talking about the show and i’m super hyped.
yeah joy was pretty fine as well, i really liked the jewish chick from teh first season, as well.
broads aside though, i’m really interested to see where the season goes and how far ahead they jump in time for this season. so many different directions tehy could go between JFK assassination, civil rights stuff, don’s personal life, etc…
I really appreciate how it is designed to touch upon multiple characters with differing stories instead of making Don or Peggy the main focus. Hopefully they continue that type of style and continue to delve into each person’s life, especially when each person represents a unique problem. Sal’s homosexuality, Campbell dealing with parents/wife and Betty’s anxiety issues ll come to mind.
The historic tie-ins are pretty great too, like you said it should be interesting where they take it. Probably more JFK and civil rights stuff if I had to guess with some homosexuality tidbits thrown in.
I caught some reruns after breaking bad and it’s a great show, but brothers be broke and I don’t want to dl 2 seasons of shows. I wish AMC wasn’t so dumb about having shows online for viewing. they only have like one episode of mad men available.
Peggy Olson and Dan Draper are such well written characters, in a show that’s overall just brilliantly written. Everything is cohesive and vibrant, without jumping the shark or incurring anachronistic vibes to garner mainstream appeal.
It takes a really good show to make me focus on the whirring plot and not on Christina Hendricks’ heaving bosom.
To be honest, AMC is like that secret nook where you keep your best toys, Breaking Bad & Mad Men > tv.
Well that I have to agree on, but that’s because she was into it. The Mad Men scene was bit too creepy though. That guy needs to get his ass caught in a bear trap.
Gotta agree with white shadow on that one. Rape scene was too creepy for my taste, too creepy for me but if you were truly in million mode than I am sure it was acceptable.
Yeah the slow pacing of the show really helps when it comes down to it. Never having to come off as being forced or contrived and with no worry of jumping the shark it continues to stay “fresh”. Adding to the fact that each character brings a unique depth with added focus on Don Draper and Peggy Olson.
Just checked. Mad Men season 2 still available for free for those of you with Comcast On Demand, RTSD.

Spoiler
About that scene, I didn’t mean it was great in a hot way, though perhaps it was unusually sexy for what it was. I mean the foreshadowing with Joan in bed with her husband and then the little mini non-confrontation between him and Sterling at the office. You really got the sense that it was about his feelings of inadequacy, and it was about him needing to feel like a big man. Literally when Joan climbs on top of him in bed and rubs her titties in his face he’s like “you know, I’m really tired, so…” But he’s greatly excited at the chance to prove his supremacy in the later situation, and is only further aroused when Joan tells him to stop, for that same reason.
The actual scene itself was great, but what was brilliant was that the roses he left her were left sitting on the desk as they left, which I thought was great symbolism for a sort of lost innocence. Not really innocence, but as a representation of their relationship. Even the way it’s filmed: they both exit the frame, and the only thing on the screen for about two seconds is this beautiful bouquet he brought her, and it’s left behind, representing what their relationship was 10 minutes prior.
There’s another scene like that, where the episode ends with a mirror image of Draper, as we see through a crack in the bathroom door, or something. The episode where he tells Jimmy Barret’s wife not to talk, and then his daughter makes a related comment to him later in the episode. That one is a little less heavy handed (though I’m sure a lot of people miss these things anyway), but it was a great camera shot.
This show is pretty good.
It was really slow to begin with but it got real good.
Draper be cheatin’ with some whack babes though at least compared to his wife.
[details=Spoiler]-Sal = great. I <3 Sal. Poor bastard…
-I thought Burt Cooper was dying for second. Clearly this whole deal has him down.
-I was yelling at Draper through my TV at least wait 5 or so episodes before he started cheating again, like last season…
-Pete vs Ken was great. It is a great way to show what’s wrong with Pete by comparing his reaction and Ken’s reaction to the exact same situation.
-I’m still in love with Draper’s wife (“she took to your tools like a little lesbian!”), though she is less hot now that she’s all pregged out.
-Fuck Draper for being such a vagina magnet. That stewardess bitch practically jumped at him crotch-first like she was doing a frankensteiner.
-Loved the beginning, about Draper’s birth.[/details]
On that note, I wonder if Draper got choked up at the end because of the start of the episode, and he was thinking about how he himself was born? That seems logical enough, but the first thing I thought of was that he was out fucking around, or at work and not around when his kid was born, and wasn’t there.
