Sally’s exposure to adult sexuality, while accurate, without context is like learning math by starting with calculus.
loved the final shot of Don, far down the hallway and aloof. his drunken panic expression for the end of that episode was such a different Don than we’re used to seeing. Has he ever been this pathetic? Can’t believe I thought for a second he was actually doing a favor for his friend instead of just one last desperate attempt to get back with Sylvia.
@white shadow
yeah, now that you mention it, it is a retreading of a previous shtick, and I liked Sal more. I guess I’m just happy some of the more absurd Bob theories (hes a secret spy?? really??) being floated around the internet are squashed. I’m still at least looking forward to Pete’s next move.
I’m really pulling for my boy Stan to lay some pipe on Peggy before the season is over. He’s just playin “da man” and not runnin at the jangle of free sex. Go for broke Stan!!
^ I’d rather Peggy’ bosd just come clean to his wife and end their emotionally vacuous marriage.
Oh even more interesting, this was the first moment in years where the big elephant in the room (Pete and Peggy’s daughter) was put out there. Pete almost seemed like a normal human being when joking around with Peggy.
Wait, Stan is married?
Whoops I meant Peggy’s boss, what’shisface. I suck at remembering tertiary characters’ names. -_-
Ted.
K guys I’m tired of bumping this thread!
so much insanity this episode!
-
Sally Draper drinking, sherking off boys, letting the love of her life fight for her, and being allowed to get lung cancer in front of her mom?! Geeze is she such a shit mother.
-
Don. We rarely hear about his motives but I feel like Weirner wants us to figure them out through Don’s actions. Nothing but smart moves from Don this whole episode without having to raise his voice once. Maybe Sally walking in on him was a good thing.
-
Peggy and Ted? facepalm
But the best part of this whole episode was…
PETER CAMPBELL VS. BOBBY BENSON
Holy mackerel was that hype. That could have been the whole episode and I would have been fine. It got so intense and the resolution will make the final episode that much better.
Oh and Ken Cosgrove. I love the character and his bizarre arc but why is Chevrolet characterized as a bat shit insane company? They sound more like texan cowboys than what I would perceive to be auto execs and what not. But maybe that’s the point… hmmm.
They really layed on the Sally and Betty comparison here. It’s awfully sad seeing Sally get to this point of disillusion but it was bound to happen with Don being half ass Dad all the time.
But yeah Pete vs Bob stole the show. I don’t know what to say other than this is the storyline I’m most excited about seeing conclude next week.
And I guess as someone who roots for the home team (Dons creative) it’s nice to see some shortcomings from Ted, who was really put on blast this episode. We’ve seen him distant from his home life (who isn’t in this show?) but I think this is the first time he’s really been whacking off at work.
lulz

I thought they killed him, the guy seems to have the worst luck.
^I think that’s what he wanted us to believe at first. And why is it that people make so light of Ken almost dying all the time? None of the other partner stories about sucking up to clients are even close to Ken almost dying twice.
“I had to hold someone’s balls teehee.”
“Oh yeah? I got shot in the face. I could have died.”
collective Kanye shrug
Don with the dick moves showin Ted who da boss while reminding him “we dont love these hoes”. Eazy-E, Ruthless.
BOB BENSON:
Pete can’t compete. Pete got out-Pete’d. lol The sorry SOB actually learned from his prior weasely maneuver he tried on Dick… er Don and went into fallback mode. One of the smartest moves he’s ever done. I’m so glad the weak “he’s gay” secret got stacked with an actually entertaining surprise.
Poor poor Ken Cosgrove. First he nearly dies in a car accident and then gets Dick Cheney’d by these buffoons. I know it’s good to have your eye on the prize, but I agree, enough is enough.
At first I was afraid that Sally Draper was on her way to becoming “Scissorin’ Sally” due to the constant stream of male disappointments, and sadly that weirdo Weiner kid swooped it an saved the day. sigh At least his serial killer vibe has worn off.
The real buildup this episode wasn’t the Peggy/ Ted romance, it was the ever-downward spiraling marriage of Don and Megan. I’ve never really appreciated her character, but I really started to feel for her in this episode. So understanding, so full of life, so eager to be a good wife, and Don treats her like a mildly amusing backdrop in his life. Pathetic.
She’s leaving in the finale, one way or another.
-
Did Ken seriously go for Pete’s hand and miss? Just one scene with the eye patch and they’re already in with the depth perception jokes.
-
Now is a very good time to point out that Bob Benson’s actor looks a hell of a lot like Anthony Perkins. Watch your back, Pete.
-
Oh good. Glen’s back. Now Bob is just the second-creepiest character in this episode.
-
Assuming “Bob Benson” is actually 28, I must be 13, because he looks at least 15 years older than me.
-
Does Rolo remind anybody else of Pete? I didn’t notice until Glen started hitting him.
-
The “Frank’s last idea” scene… well played, Mad Men. Very, very well played. And exceptionally amoral, even for Don.
-
Betty HDF’s parenting skills continue to impress.
Mad Men’s just foreshadowing the D’s eventual reputation as a wretched hive of gun violence and idiotic, untrustworthy leadership.
This was such a surreal moment. It will surely find its way into common use as a stock response on Internet forums.
In fact, we might as well put up the RockB signal now. He’ll want to know about this.

Also, it appears that in addition to like, agree, and disagree, we can now click an “insightful” button on people’s posts.
Congratulations, White Shadow. You get first honor.
Mad Men is always so much more on in the second half. I don’t know if it’s because the first half is the setup and the second half is the punchline or if it’s just a matter of finding their feet each season, but whatever it is, it always leads to amazing episodes.
The actress who play Sally is amazing. One of the reason you should not have older kids play the weird 11-15 range is that it’s very unique to a person’s development, it should be primarily played by that group. Otherwise, the kid always comes off older than they are. Sally comes off perfect for her age.
Reflecting on this season, it’s easy to see Don’s marriage crumbling because h has a mother complex with women. Look at the women he slept with this season, all of them mothers. Other than what we can assume happened in Hawaii, Don did not really touch Megan a lot this season. It’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
If you have enough time to say “wait!” you have enough time to jump out of the way.
I thought you were from Vermont, Ken? Guess he is a liar too.
I am enjoying Don’s personal life falling down in a realistic way (slowly chipping away at all of his relationships for 6 seasons now) but also really enjoyed him stopping Ted from getting his whiny pussy juice all over the office. Harry Hamlin AKA bizarro Roger has been a great addition to the cast.
I think the thing that is worst about Mad Men after watching GoT and Boardwalk Empire is that all of these characters are just going to whine and whine and whine but never get a real comeuppance. Sure they will lose a wife or be sad for a little while, but they will always have money and be alive. (well except for Lane) They’ll get married again and just get another job at another agency. It’s not like this is life and death stuff.
When does Breaking Bad start again?
Gah! I forgot to mention this! I loled during that moment.
Unbeknownst to most, that was one of the rare moments on the show where Jon Hamm got to play as himself for a brief while.
Graciously Bows
What’s funny is when he did that I thought “That’s actually Jon Hamm right there…”
Not saying I disagree but Duck’s crisis moments were pretty satisfying imo. Even though he’s seemingly back on his feet now he still gives off a loser vibe.
I hope when Don and Meagan separate Meagan is kept in the show, but I can’t imagine a reason for it. Her mother is a good cameo character too imo.
nah meagan is such a 1D character IMO. She can go.
Oh, I’m not saying the show is stupid or anything, it’s just “oh look, Don is sad, I guess this is important?”
I really enjoy Mad Men, but there is no finality to the drama. Rogers wife is gone, now his new wife is gone, and now he is on drugs. That is how real life works though. You change slightly overtime and lose friends and relationships.
