I kind of wish Don and Betty never split. Meagan just seems like a placeholder. Last season you think shes changed him and hes going to honor his marriage and now that thats over the whole thing just seems useless.

I kept waiting for it to be revealed as a weird paranoia-driven dream sequence when Peggy stabbed Abe with a homemade spear.* I said to myself “Mad Men usually doesn’t pull bullshit reveals like that”… and then I said to myself “Mad Men usually doesn’t have people get accidentally stabbed by their significant others with a knife taped to a broomstick.”
But the more I think about it, Mad Men actually does do both of those kinds of stuff. It just doesn’t do them often (remember the tractor?) and most of the surrounding material is a relatively sober reflection of reality.
It reminds me of what Dan Harmon said about Community, about how they kept the wackier episodes to a minimum, because they felt they had to earn those moments by building up a supply of more character-driven stuff.

I was kind of drunk the first time I watched the episode so I didn’t realize that Peggy was teh one who actually stabbed him.
Then I saw it happen and lol’d pretty hard. Abe was always the worst. If it was 2013 he’d probably have Apple everything and eat only organic vegan food. Poor Peggy, getting shit on by everyone.

eh i don’t think don was a dick to peggy at all. she already stated that she’s biased against him a few episodes ago and then she came into the office with that pussyfooting nonsense, so don had to dig in her ass and she responded like a child.
Betty brought it this ep. I was surprised that I actually couldn’t manufacture the level of contempt towards her that I was used to. She’s still a scumbag like Don though.

Betty’s overall behavior when meeting Don at the camp was giving me flashbacks of the dealings I’ve had with various women in my past. Let’s just say the scene where she intentionally left the door casually open gave me deja vu. lol

In a way, Megan’s perfect for Don. He’s fundamentally a lonely person who uses women. She’s the one who’s always been there and always let him use her. Betty’s just learning to be just as much of a user as any of the high-rollers at SCDPCGCQRSTUV.
i’m not sure she’s just learning, as much as her new husband is encouraging bad behavior. remember in season 1 when roger came over and made a pass at betty? don wasn’t into that shit and let it be known…henry. on the other hand, is turned on by other guys trying to fuck his wife.
how did don sleep in betty’s room without henry finding him in the morning?
Anybody feel like Don was BSing just a little bit when he said he felt nothing emotionally during sex and likened it to climbing a mountain? I think he likes to think that he doesn’t, that his emotional detachment is a time-tested defense mechanism, but he seems to fall hard for girls in the very beginnings of his affairs, then he only belatedly starts to drive the wedge in once he sees the possibility of getting hurt.
And by then, he’s usually already sniffing around someone else anyway.
I might have believed Don had he said something like that in season one but by now its pretty clear he’s compensating. He seems to only allow some vulnerability when he has complete control which never lasts. It really makes me hope we start to see some decency again in Don before the end of this season. It feels too early to resign him to hopeless philanderer just yet with 1 whole season after this one upcoming. I think one of my favorite parts of this episode was finally seeing him being kind of a good dad.
Guys Abe did not get stabbed twice. The first scene was after their return from the hospital where he was being interviewed about the cops and blamed it on “some puerto ricans/blacks” to cover up what really happened, which was revealed later as Peggy stabbing him.
Come on now. He had a bandage on his hand, which he was still wearing when Peggy stabbed him in the gut.
He also dumped her on the way to the hospital. (Must have been that strange Zen-like clarity you get when you’ve just been stabbed.) As of that moment, they’re no longer in a mutual domestic situation.
