Mad Men Thread (Season 3 begins 8/16 on AMC)

Time skip? She’s also thinner now.

I would love to see what’s in the pitches that the team came up with.

yeah that too! I think thats another reason why I wasn’t sure if that was just Don not perceiving things correctly due to exhaustion + drugs. He certainly wasn’t perceiving the passage of time normally. Here’s to hoping that is how she looks now tho cause the black hair looked really bad imo.

Young Don is awful. Did he take steroids to grow his lantern jaw? HORRIBLE CASTING.

For a show that has done some pretty damn good casting (well, it took them a couple Bobbies to get it right), young Don is sort of a weird choice. Especially considering Jon Hamm was not an awkward child. you look at pics of him in high school and you are like “Yup, that guy gets a lot of ass.”

Yeah, they should have just CGed Jon Hamm’s face onto Asa Butterfield’s body. The illusion would be seamless.

I watched that episode at 2 in the morning half asleep, I don’t know if that enhanced the confusion, but it was definitely an interesting ride.

Peggy enjoys being lusted after, even though she tries to be good. I like how her stern demeanor has relented somewhat now that she’s home.

Don looks like he’s on the verge of a heart attack. Bloated, red-faced and in need of some serious catharsis.

Part of me abhors those flashbacks because young Don doesn’t seem genetically possible. Everything about the casting is off as VS said. Even casting Donald Glover for that role would’ve felt mroe legit.

That hippie chick, oh how I missed out on that “free love” era. sigh

That would certainly add an interesting context for the “Grandma Ida” scene.

They almost remade society. How did they ever get beaten?

Btw why is it that Ken being in a car accident was treated so nonchalantly? I feel like if my mans would have died they still would have been mad at him for not getting a yes answer out of GM.

PS What was the car that SCDPete+Joan+Ted+Etc. was supposed to be advertising?

The Chevy Vega. It has a terrible reputation now, but it was supposed to be the car of the future at the time.

If you know of the Ralph Nader book Unsafe At Any Speed, he gave the Vega a sound ass-whupping.

7 Theories about this week’s episode, it’s actually a good read

new episode today or are the breaking for memorial day weekend?

Unless I’m mistaken, there will be a new ep tonight.

Is it just me or does anyone else think Jon Hamm would make a perfect Reed Richards in a Fantastic Four movie?

I was happy to see Betty being hot again.

This show is good in a way I’m still trying to understand. Like why the fuck do we like it so much? I dunno! Do You?

Betty being hot. Joan being hot. Megan being hot. Whatserface who’s trying to bang Megan being hot. Gee, Mad Men, do you think you’ve filled the quota yet?

Interesting ep. Very wistful, especially after the bottled mania of last week’s episode. Some of the dialogue was a little on-the-nose, but that’s no biggie. I figure this show is entitled once in a while.

“The hardest way to get to you is to love you.”

Sometimes, you just need to ignore the way people plausibly talk and throw in something that’s good enough to wind up in everybody’s Facebook status the next day.

He’s tall and has a square jaw and dark hair. That’s 90% of superhero roles right there. Factor in his age (straddling the line between youth and middle-age) and yeah, he fits the bill for Reed and a dozen other Silver Age characters. He could also play Steve Vai in a movie, though Steve himself would probably get first crack.

This episode totally made me realise Betty >>> Meagan as an actress, in hotness, and as a love interest for Don.

This is the first time in three seasons that Betty has been anything but catty around Don. She’s appealing once she stops clinging to hatred… but that’s all the time.

She was at her hottest in the rome episode. “They say you are ugly”

Oh Betty.

don was dropping some serious game on betty and megan this episode.

i wish we could’ve saw how joan’s new relationship materialized a bit more than just that “he was nice and took her to the hospital.”
