Mad Men Thread (Season 3 begins 8/16 on AMC)

He helped her get the part because he was compensating for not helping Lane and Adam.

PAY ATTENTION.

Yeah, as a person who enjoys the simpsons, but does not revere it, I disagree with your statement. In fact, until this season of MM, Arrested Development season all was my favorite season of TV.

^Meh angryliberal, I don’t think anything surpasses To Catch a Predator when it comes to best TV. diverse cast, epic plot twists, and lots of action scenes.(not that kind of action sickos.)

Y’all bitches just don’t know how to process that Don “Don Draper is a hot mess” Draper is back in action. This never happened indeed.

Cha Chee Cha Chee Cha Chee.

And season all is not a thing. I CAN’T WAIT TIL THE NEW EPISODES DISAPPOINT YOU. HAHHAHAHAHAHAA.

Anyway, the last episode wasn’t bad by any means, it just wasn’t a “Lets shame Pete” or “Race on Deadman’s Lane” episode. Don’s tooth was gross. Brush your damn teeth Don.

PS - Remember, Mad Men’s whole theme is change. That is what this season was about. Don tried so hard to change and it all just blew up in his face over and over. Oh Don, so handsome but so sad.

True, but it’s also a compromise his business ethics, which I don’t think will sit well with him, because now it involves his personal life. He stuck to his ethics with Lane, but tried to soften the blow by letting Lane bow out gracefully instead of getting crucified, even though the end result was worse than he ever imagined. Megan tells her friend that’s not how Don does things, and I think they weight of Adam/Lane pressures him into wanting to help Megan, but at the same time is aware it that it could destroy the relationship. He’s got the moral dilemma of sticking to what he thinks is right in a business sense, but the personal results from Lane/Megan/Joan’s partnership/the other partners deciding without him… the season 5 persona of Draper is steadily eroding…

That ending shot of him walking away from Meg and the final scene was the persona possibly dissolving before our eyes. The entire season was steady erosion of his attempt at married bliss.

last episode was lackluster and disappointing. it would have been a great middle ep, or build-up episode, but as the last episode we get for an entire year, i was expecting a little more.
season was good, but it didn’t pay off as much as i wanted it to. i’m hoping next season we get a bit more of that.

i agree that it has changed the relationship between megan and don. i think he’ll lose a little respect for her because of it, go back to his old swaggin ways. I hope he does!

You know, as probably the biggest pete fan here, it says a lot for me to say the episode just had too much pete. His little storyline with the crazy lady was pretty lame.

Like we had a WHOLE episode of pete getting shit on, we didn’t need to waste another 20 minutes of the last episodes to just rehash the same point of pete being sad and doing weird shit.

Weirdly, I sort of liked the Pete storyline, at least the first half of it. The second half of his arc was less than enjoyable.

Yeah me too, then we got into the weird fight and him getting all caring, it was just a little weird.

i agree, that was exactly my feeling. like, this is time that could better be spent exploring more interesting and new viewpoints. more of peggy at CCG or something. we’ve already established pete as the physically weak dude who wishes he was don draper, i don’t feel like it needs to be hammered into us

i also felt like the train scene was kind of just an excuse to show us pete getting punched again

Punching Pete memes are all the rage…

No those were my impressions of what was going on in the series as of the finale not why i thought it was weak. It was weak to me because not much happened for about 4 or 5 eps. Also, that wasnt megans friend at the end.

set up ep. for season finale is not a good look. this whole ep. needed more subtlety.
overall this season was great. LSD ep. was perfect.

looking forward to peggy inventing virginia slims and battling don next season. and of course, more hoes

gilmore girl’s titties.

megan done fucked up and awoke god-tier don.

That last shot of Don, even though I knew it was coming…still terrified me. I actually shouted at the screen like a black person at a movie theatre, “DON NO!”

WHAAAAAAAAAAAA

Seriously? Goddamn, all y’all white bitches look the same, I missed this completely.

I also don’t like that Pete was trying to make himself less punchable by having an in-depth storyline and everything…but thankfully they set that right by actually having him punched in the face. I don’t want to sympathize with Pete, I just want to hate him, that is why he is like the best.

And then I mistook that empty floor scene as happening right after, and I was like, damn this dude has like Wolverine’s healing factor or something, his face is pristine and right back to maximum punchability.

Man, best season ever or what? I think I say that after every season though, I have no historical context for these things.

^Pete’s fist “fights” are the some of the most enjoyable moments of the series. Every time Pete Campbell gets a knuckle sandwhich, some sweet, undefined, mysterious part of the deepest parts of my soul recoils in pure joy.

Last ep was stunning, easily a great fit for a season ender. Maybe not in a “ZOMG BIG THINGS HAPPENED” way, but in a “STATE OF THE MAD MEN ADDRESS, ALL ITS CHARACTERS, AND EVERY LITTLE THING, WHY AM I STILL YELLING” way.

Weiner needs to direct more. His ability to craft images that comment on the events, both subtly and obviously, is exceptional even for this show. Two standout moments: Don watching the reel (wordless, yet absolutely loaded with content), and Don walking away from the set of the commercial, which appears to recede into its own little self-contained, brightly lit world behind him. The shot could have ended at any time, but he keeps walking further into the dark.

Then he gets to the bar, and somebody asks him,

“Are you alone?”

WHAT AN INTERESTING QUESTION.

It may just end up as the tagline for the inevitable complete Mad Men box set.

And any episode in which Pete gets punched in the face (I’m so glad there’s more than one!) is an automatic four star rating.

Terrific ep. Terrific season. I don’t think Mad Men’s had a lackluster year yet.
