M.Bison Combo/Tech Thread: Psycho Power!

I was just referring that after a hard knockdown (ex kicks), you still need to delay a bit otherwise you will do it too early and get hit out of your psycho axe

I cant say I’ve ever had that problem, I didn’t know that you could be whiff punished from that timing. I always wait until Bison recovers and then just do it right away, and it always seems to hit the faster wakeup recovery. If they don’t recover faster, there’s still enough time to do a light then a ST HK

What about this M.bison Buff in this version 1.05 it helps !?

Bug: EX Head Press (including while V-Trigger is activated) would miss the second stomp at times when used against certain actions.

Fix: The hit box of the second stomp in EX Head Press (including while V-Trigger is activated) has been expanded, making it easier for it to hit.

Man I am so happy about that fix. The EX Stomp could be REALLY friggin finnicky, which is why I end up trying to end things with EX Scissors more often than EX Stomp (in VTrigger)

That

EX Stomp only ends stuff from EX Inferno and there’s no second stomp from it. How are you using it?

Sometimes I use it as a fireball punish. Sometimes I end the combo with blast or inferno, cancel into Vtrigger, and then use EX Stomp to hit twice on the ground. You probably know the EX Stomp can be avoided depending on the type of recovery they use. Most of the time the opponent will use the recovery that they use the most, which is usually quick getup. But 2 stomp EX occasionally missed, making it kinda finnicky vs back get up.

If used as a fireball punish, If the first stomp hit at just the right point in an opponent’s dash startup, for some reason the 2nd would sometimes miss as well.

The only thing I noticed that this update did to ex.stomp is that now you can v-trigger cancel any of the infernos into ex-headstomp and it will hit. Before this update, you could only do it from H.Inferno I think, maybe I’m just forgetting stuff.

Hmm,no. Nothing changed in inferno vtc combos

It works but you have to VT cancel at the first Hit of Inferno, you will hit them when they touch the ground

I know, but the bugfix didnt afffect it

Have any of you guys experimented with different jump in timings to fish for CC’s?. I know doing a deep jumping mk (crossup or otherwise) or an early jump fierce/rh to stand rh beats throws/jab mashing and if blocked its still plus 3. I know I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel here and its not really ‘tech’ but If it works once you still get a cc combo.

I don’t know if i can even call this “tech”, but this is something i’ve found out recently and i don’t see people using at all…

On VT, Psycho Axe - EX Scissors immediately to beat 3f normals with 12+ total frames. Works against Karin, Laura, Necalli, Rashid and Vega. All others have 11f or less on their 3f.

Jump in straight into Axe also works well.

Excellent find. Robbing this tech. I’ll also point out that against other character you can’t punish, your at +3 on block with VT EX.Knee Press, a good place to start pressure.

Against Necalli, you can blow through C.MK xx any normal Valiant Rebellion with VT EX.Knee Press.

Ken’s bothering you by spamming VT Air Tatsu and VT EX. Air Tatsu’s for a free get in tool?. Counter with Ex.Head Press if you have the meter. Ken’s VT Air Tatsu have projectile hitboxes and Bison’s EX.Head Press is immune to those. If the angle wasn’t right and Head Press whiffs cancel into EX.DR at no extra cost and either move to safety or attack him with it.

So I was looking at the hitboxes/hurtboxes of certain moves again.
Looking at Bison’s C.LP, his hurtbox is only slightly above the hitbox on this move.

So it got me thinking, could this be used as anti air option. I was experimenting with C.MP before and it worked at certain angles but that move had a larger hurtbox above the hitbox than C.LP.

Tested it in the mirror match and in a long set against Rashid and I could use it fairly consistently. It does not cover cross ups of course but I was anti airing people who were coming down almost directly on top of me.

Looking at hurtboxes around jump in’s in general the over whelming majority have larger hurtboxes under and around their jump in’s than Bison has above his C.LP. Will experiment more in other match ups but so far it looks promising.

Yup it works. Bison has Jab AA that works against 98% of normal jump attacks.
Its not as good as other Jab AA’s like Necalli and Ryu’s, it doesn’t stop cross ups and Ryu’s J.LK will beat it.
But in attacks coming down directly on you and from mid range it will beat nearly everything else. It even beats neutral jumps coming down directly on top of you.

Please starting testing this guys and let us know what you think. I think this makes a big difference in terms of quality of life for us Bison players.

This may already be known but off Psycho Blast knockdown you get the following okizime options.

Against an opponent who uses Normal recovery
LP.Blast leads to dash forward any light strength normal meaty attack.
MP.Blast leads to dash forward S.MP meaty attack.
HP.Blast leads to dash forward S.HK meaty attack.

Against back recovery.
LP.Blast leads to dash forward S.MP meaty attack.
MP.Blast leads to dash forward S.HK meaty attack.
HP.Blast leads to dash forward Pyscho Axe meaty attack

Mid screen you need to be aware of spacing, Anything more than a point blank cancel into Blast and your going to be too far away to obtain follow up pressure.
Against back recovery your almost certainly going to be far away to get a meaty attack off LP/MP Blast, although the forward movement of Psycho Axe will allow you to pressure off a HP.Blast.
But if your opponent is not using back recovery you can keep up the pressure.
In the corner you don’t need to worry about spacing, and its just a matter of choosing the right meaty attack.

With V-Trigger activated the superior range on your dash makes it easier to get a meaty attack mid screen, but you will end cornering yourself if you do it against a cornered opponent.
Off VT Blast you get S.MP meaty against normal recovery.
Against back recovery you need to use a slightly delayed S.HK against characters with 3 frame normals as instant S.HK will whiff and Psycho Axe can be stopped with a reversal 3 frame normal. Against characters with no 3 frame normals you can use Psycho Axe for a crush counter if they press a button.

Observation I’ve made about VT Head Press

Like normal Head Press the start up time of the moves varies based on proximity to your opponent just as Head Press did in IV.

If VT Head Press is performed from full screen away, it literally only goes active 1-2 frames before it hits the opponent.
This means is incredible easy to anti air and score a counter hit while doing it.

However if performed at close range the move goes active mid way through the jump arc. This is important because the hitbox on VT Head Press is pretty godlike. It extends massively below his hurtbox which makes it very difficult to anti air cleanly. Jab anti airs will never beat it. I found the sweet spot is when VT Head Press is performed from roughly the spacing EX. Knee Press leaves you on hit. From this range most dedicated anti normals will at best trade, which is well in Bison’s favor in both terms of damage and follow up pressure. I found Dhalsim could win clean with B+MP but Chun-Li’s B+HK, Ryu’s C.HP, Guiles C.HP, Cammy’s B+MP mostly lost and occasionally traded but always in Bison’s favor. From that range as well I was trading with Cammys DP unless Cammy left the DP super late, beat Ryu’s MP.DP (lost to EX DP) and beat all of Ken’s DP’s or made them whiff). Performing VT Head Press from close range also has the benefit of much more quickly forcing your opponent into proximity block and thus being unable to walk backwards out of the Head Press. The universal counter of walking/dashing forward still counters.

The variable start up of VT Head Press can be seen around 12.12 in the below hitbox video. It also applies to normal Head Press as well but since the hitbox on that is awful its easy to anti air regardless of were its activated from.
