I think some people are missing the point of this low tier system. To an extent its not to see who’s low tier or not. We already know who’s good and who’s not. Why let IM and WM in when we already know what they’re capable of? those characters get top tier play already.
Thats whats fucked up about the current sytem. Tops simply beat out bums and you limit the amount of truly playable teams. Keep it low tier all the way and you’ll see a bigger window of teams that are truly playable. Which is what you want to see from a low tier tourney. You want to see a HUGE spectrum of low tier teams. Not high tiers mixed with bums all day. When thats the case, you limit the amount of low tier teams that can compete with that.
and no, IM and WM simply have to go. J360 would laugh his ass off if those characters were allowed in. WM\IM ron would wreck so much shop.

Iron Man / War Machine are threshold characters. If you allow them in, then Spiral, Strider, Doom, Sim, Blackheart, Cyke etc are back in by default. You gonna tell me that Doom is more dangerous than Iron Man?
Originally i wanted to see a Mixed-tier type setup where you got to bring in a Doom or a Cyke, Spiral, Strider, or somebody from that grouping and pair them up with a couple bums-- its too complicated of a system, and its exclusive of more characters than it benefits. Like Shoultz said, why let Iron Man sit at the top of Low Tier? He already can hack it with God tier, and if IM/WM are included they are far and above the rest of low tier. It would be like setting up a new regular tournament system that bans all the gods but Storm. Everybody picks Storms in that scenario and she OCVs everybody.
The thing is though, if a Low tier scene gets established at some events, then you start to see the tricky pairings of low tiers, you see how certain oddball assists can wreck shop, and eventually the type of player who’s inclined to run Blackheart, or Doom, S/D or any of the ‘lesser’ characters at big events is gonna start to introduce more lows into counter-pick situations.
Theres just so much going on with marvel’s roster that it really needs that unprecedented step where the community starts to recognize low tier as a separate event, because it really is a whole other game.
As it stands now, this low tier standard sets up a huge ‘god tier’ w/in the bums-- Morrigan, Chun, Cammy, CapCom, Psylocke, Tron, Spidey, Jugg, Anak if he makes the cut, Mega Man, Ruby, Spd-Up Wolvie, Guile, Ken, Silver Samurai, Son-son. Every character is in about the same tier its ridiculous.

i remember nec2k5 they allowed wm and yipes used wm/psy all the way up to 4th, and erik tied with blackheart/cap lol!
2k6 Cammy/psy/doom took 1st place Cammy was ratio 1 (wtf). And cyclops was wreckin shit.
nec2k7 was fun without all the bullshit . Justin banned his own characters and couldnt use most of his own teams, i saw alot of variety and the shit was alot of fun, juicy G’s charlie was amazing. Kevin landon was holdin it down with his low tiers. I think nec2k7 rules were the closest to fair low tier play and variety, when i entered i made up teams on the spot and won with them. guile/ken/coll was alot of fun to use and some guys spider man and ryu was mercin people.

I checked the nec7 results page and didn’t see the low tier rules and the search function is glitching up right now. Someone who went to NEC7 and knew the low tier rules would have to post it up.
There are 2 styles of low tier though: ___ + Doom + Tron and actual low tier teams. I think the 2nd kind is the truly fun kind 'cause it really opens the game to different stuff, sure it’ll take longer to kill people but it’s not like you’re fighting top tiers, so banning people like doom/tron/bh/cyke/capcom/im/wm is necessary 'cause if you end up fighting those guys with Charlie you’ll need to use Doom/Tron or something powerful to compete with even the 2nd string in of characters in mvc2. =/

Cyke is one of the Top-tiers alongside the likes of Ironman and can hold his own and compete well with the 4 gods. Any so-called “low-tier tourney/match-up” that allows him, loses creditability.
For my personal list: The 4 gods ofcourse, ironman, doom, spiral, Cyclops, and blackheart. As for the assist chars: Psylock, commando, iceman, and t-bone can be selected, but their top assists are not allowed. Maybe forgot a few there…
Take out all of the above and the cheesiness of MVC2 would be reduced by 90%, proper for lower-tier gameplay.
The problem with assist banning is that the characters that put the best use to the top asissts in the game, are all banned anyway.
SM with psy assist is not cheap at ALL.
They’ll be no magpsy, robo mando or Mag tron.
