Yeah but your loot goes into a slot machine and you get something randomly.
Now THAT sucks.

lol yea, that’s like DFO. Imagine having to pay for $2.50 for a token to try a slot machine to pick a avatar piece, which changes your look, like some shoes with a random stat. Most of time the time people get garbage ass gear that looks like ass.
Well I doubt it does repeat unlocks, so the time it will take to unlock everything is probably about the same for everyone.
Played the game at the release party in LA.
Was a lot of fun even though it was just FFA.
Just more hyped for the full game, plus got a free Salamander Akrid plushie and a Shirt
Well I had bought the game a few days ago (shops got an early EU release).
The game is mostly about playing co-op, huh?
While I don’t mind that, how’s the single player mode?
Single-player is the same as co-op, it’s just instead of 3 other players, you have bots. Thing is the bots aren’t very good and the game promotes teamwork more and more the later on in the game you get it seems
Thanks for clearing that up. Gonna see if single player mode allows for offline co-op (yeah I know this sounds silly, but games these days…they’re too much into online play)
tried out the campaign demo, dunno wtf im doing but i got eaten by a giant creature and then shit out. then i blew it up. ill try the multiplayer demo later after.
somewhat related: cures for motion sickness?
Damn I REALLY want a plushie
There’s split screen coop if that’s what you’re talking about. Want to join up in coop once the game comes out this Tuesday?
Fuck I wish I knew. I used to get motion sick from playing MW2. Thankfully, I usually get past my motion sickness from FPS games after I play them for a few days or weeks.
In other words, the cure is DETERMINATION.
Well if anime has taught us anything, it’s that guts and determination trump all. Unless you’re Simon.
Damn, IGN gave it a 5.5
I don’t always agree with IGN (most recently their Metro 2033 review, that game wasn’t so bad) but I agree with this phrase entirely.
"Lost Planet 2 plays like it was never put in front of a member of its intended audience at some point during its development, someone who might have asked “why?”: “Why can’t I pause the game unless I make my game unjoinable?” “Why can’t I join a co-op game in progress?” “Why can this monster kill me in two hits?” A little “why?” may have taken this game in a different, more compelling direction. "
I’ve been saying this about Japanese developers for a while. It’s almost like they find quality control or criticism offensive sometimes, and some shit they’ve been doing for years never seems to change.
I can understand the problem some people have with no pause, but it’s not something that could factor in to not buying the game for me. The co-op thing I can understand, in fact I thought they WERE going to allow games to be joinable mid-game. I can kinda understand why you can’t though since this isn’t like Gears and it DOES in fact keep scores.
For the last thing? That is just WHINING. So what if a boss is powerful, IT’S A BOSS. It’s not like you can’t avoid their attacks if you’re rolling properly, then you can give yourself some time to heal. What a shitty complaint “OH NOES GAME IS HARD”.
Fuck that.
I think the biggest change the game needs (by what the reviews say at least) would be an improved AI, especially for CPU controlled teammates.
yeah but almost every game with co-op, even some big names, has shit AI. That or the AI is fine, but the AI controlled teammates are simply ineffectual by design.
Honestly, it just sounds like the game was too hard for them. I’ve played the original LP and the PS3 co-op/multiplayer demos for LP2, and the controls are just as good (if not better) for the sequel. The series has very specific (stiff) controls, and they are supposed to be that way as far as I can tell. It’s like reading Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian (it’s supposed to be like treading rough terrain).
Also, the baddies hit hard…so learn to roll. That’s the way the game is played.
YOu’d think people would understand how Capcom works by now but I guess not.
Yeah, the bad reviews hark on how difficult the game is or how theres too few checkpoints. Unless a game is a total cakewalk it usually receives a lower score because of it on most sites.
While it’d be nice for it to have better AI and everything, the game is basically built around co-op. I may blow through the game on easy solo, but I’m buying the game to have fun with friends first and foremost.
I’ve been watching videos of Germans and people in the UK that got the game a few days ago, menus and all that stuff. I think its really cool how you unlock some stuff right off the bat if you have savefiles for previous Capcom games (RE5, Dead Rising, DMC4 and i think vanilla SF4?).
The slot machine looks like kind of a pain in the balls, but i’ll be playing this game so long i’d end up unlocking everything at one point or another. I guess I just wish I could buy all the guns/character customization parts right off the bat.
Also it looks like Capcom fucked over PS3 owners, again giving them an inferior port (LP1 on PS3 was horrid compared to the 360 versions). If you have both systems it would appear 360 is the way to go. From IGN:
“In my Xbox 360 review, I mention that Lost Planet 2 is a beautiful title that really shows off the strengths of Capcom’s MT Framework 2.0 engine. From familiar ice fields to jungles and cities and deserts, the world of EDN III is often a sight to behold. Unfortunately, the PS3 version of Lost Planet 2 suffers in comparison. The framerate experiences significant drops whenever the screen is busy, particularly in outdoor stages and during boss fights and hectic combat situations. Occasionally, the game will pause visually for several moments. This can have profound effects on the responsiveness of controls, and there were numerous points where I was nearly killed by an enemy waiting for the game to seemingly catch up with me.”
