Losing for all ages! The new Rage thread (with props to Gruntsworthy)

today i got dash grabbed out of HK Short swing blow

all of this rage

Just had the most discouraging experience ever: ran into another Makoto online. One who could actually play Makoto, no less, despite having apparently less experience than me. So I got manhandled, and now I’m super close to dropping Makoto altogether, since I’m actually getting worse with her the more I play.

How do you know your opponent had less experience? You do remember that PP/BP weren’t transferred over from the old version, right? Besides, points aren’t exactly the best indicator for skill. For instance, I had Makoto at a solid B rank in Super, and I spent a decent amount of time practicing her in Endless. In AE, I’m at D+ because I haven’t had the time to grind out points in ranked battles. Your opponent could have a similar background, or he may be the kind of person that spent a lot of time at the arcade practicing her before the console release.

nj.mk works for light spammers, cr.lk can usually stuff any light if done meaty, take a step back ex oroshi blows through lights and most anything when done meaty.
Don’t get discouraged, don’t go balls out unless you see an opening, and to win online just sit in front of them just out of shoto cr.mk and watch them flail, random, and jump like crazy, punish accordingly and blow them up. =)

I check their total games played, which records both ranked AND endless matches.
…thank god most of the people who beat me have like 3 times the amount of games I do…the excuses live on!

Mirror match is just 1 matchup out of 39. Don’t worry about it. If you play Makoto I’m sure you have had to deal with losing streaks since you started playing. Calm down a little and you’ll get over it

You’ve got to start using EX karakusa. I mean, if you’re losing like that, sometimes you gotta just say “fuck it.”

Seriously though, EX Karakusa is a great answer to someone mashing shit on your wakeup. You have to be careful of SRKs though. Pick and choose your spots. You can actually throw it out in some predictable block strings that aren’t frame tight… anything between 2-4 hits gets grabbed if theres a space. Its excellent for characters who have 1 hit forward moving normals (Cody, Makoto mirror, etc).

Another thing you’re going to want to work on is IAT. Eats normal throws alive. Seriously, you start taking off 3~400 damage when they try to tick throw you and they’ll stop lol. This opens up other options.

Then one thing you have to realize is that Makoto is about setting your opponent up for what you REALLY want to do. I.e. Karakusa, Tsurugi, Fukiage, etc. The setups are here, on this forum, but it takes time to learn how to use them correctly. Learn just a few at a time. Figure out what situations you can use them in. Watch a crapload of videos, and you’ll start seeing them pop up in your game. Once they are executed naturally, move on to the next. This is how you’ll get better with her.

Yes, the mossad man got me a ton by just going for it this past weekend…lol  ggs

Yeah man i try to punish people who FA a lot… i hate it because I only like using it in 1 situation… after a dizzy lol.

I FA WAAAAAY too much, but i’m starting to get it under control.

On some characters i’ll do backthrow, level 3 (hits in the air) dash, HP Fuki, EX Tsurugi for HELLA damage.

But yeah man good games, i’m luckier than my BP shows

EDIT - You had great use of Karakusa though… esp those s.:lk: kara. Man I swear i was jumping every time, but when you got me in the corner it was like:

Game Over.

would you like to try again?

Yeah so i just decided that unless its tournament or Ranked I won’t be doing Makoto Mirror Matches for a little bit guys. Played about 600 in the past week and… well i think i’ve had my fill. Already knew the matchup, but hopefully you guys learned something from playing me. Probably not lol.

Actually now that I think about it, i’m going to take a few days away for a vacation. Maybe more. I’ve kind of inundated myself with information and i havent’ really been able to practice it due to playing so many matches/watching EVO. I’ll be back. Maybe will still be here on SRK but probably not. Gonna get back into some BARS OR SOMETHING lol. I need beer. so i’m gonna hop in the car and just driiiiiivvvveee. See where it takes me :). Hope you guys continue to level up X100 before i get back!!!

Anyone who has me on AIM i’ll still be on there 24/7 as per usual. So if you want to talk just hit me up.

See ya!

See you online tonight.

Lol um thats gonna be difficult since I won’t be online tonight. But sure.

Tonight started off awesome and I took out everybody I played and then suddenly it turned into pure trolling. A Zangief, two Guiles, four Blankas, and a T.Hawk. Then for my final match of the night I got matched up with 2000bp Juri. I won the last one to break my losing streak though and I felt pretty decent since I won by completely playing that Juri and finally baiting her Ult.

That sucks, when I see Zangief or Guile I just want to drop my stick right then and there. Zangief is pretty much an automatic loss for me, I hate that character.

If you follow Mossad’s advice from the Q&A, you’ll see your win rate increase. Essentially it boils down to being very Guille-like. Poke, run away, poke, run away. Assuming you’re successful at keeping Gief at bay, you’ll eventually start to see impatience, allowing you to set up Fukiage quite nicely.

Blanka however, you should have an advantage. You shouldn’t be scared of him.

Never had any meter and couldn’t properly punish the Blanka balls. Got knocked down and just never recovered properly. There was some funky garbage going on where I would be clearly pressing throw and then not tech his throws but that just made my loss far more irritating rather than being the cause.

My big rage is going from nigh perfecting an opponent … to never touching them again and losing, often because of a failed Fukiage or the wrong AA.

I’m tired of guessing so much. I have to guess like hell once I get in on an opponent … can’t that be enough?

Sounds like when I was playing 3s. I used to hate guessing so much, but she’s a lot more solid now. Just take a deep breath and start up the lock down pressures and make them backdash or jump out to eat a fukiage. I’ve now started to do things to bait out pokes for Ex Karakusa due to the range of it.

Are you on XBL or PSN?

Just a friendly reminder to everyone. Love all the posts but let’s not do advice. Pure venting here. I know, I know I want to see everyone do better as well : )
my rage of the day? What’s up with shiro getting tore down in the salty suites?
