Losing for all ages! The new Rage thread (with props to Gruntsworthy)

Unless you just have a faulty stick it’s your execution. Probably trying to do it too fast perhaps. Turn inputs on in training mode while you practice to make sure you are inputting it correctly.
If you are then slow it down, don’t go for instant and just practice it slowly then work your way to doing it faster and faster. I don’t know why but just doing Kara-Tsurugi inputs for all Tsurugis I do seems to help me out lately. :stuck_out_tongue:

Usually when I pick up AE after a while of not playing, IA tsurugi is for some reason the thing I keep messing up (more so than kara-kara…weird) Make sure you’re going all the way to back. You can’t get lazy at all with the input. Like Godly Effect said, turn on inputs and figure out what it is that’s not getting input correctly.

I can do it with the analog on pad with ease but then i have a lot of other problems (pad fails) i was thinking of getting a circle gauge for my stick so it would be like the analog stick. I’ve tried octagonal gate but i couldn’t do hadoukens with ryu so i put my square gate back in. What’s your thoughts on this? Also what restrictor gate do you use if you use one?

Puff… Pant.
Oh man, today was depressing.

Come the 8th of July, I will have been playing Makoto for a year, yet I feel I peaked quite a few months ago and haven’t really improved since. I’m still making incredibly trivial execution errors. My Fierce-Feint-Strong (feints in general) are horrendously inconsistent. More alarmingly, my instant axe kicks are still inconsistent. I really am stuck in the mud I feel. Am I doing them too fast? Occasionally I slow it down and then it comes out, but it’s not always instant. Sometimes I do the motion quick and it works, but often not. And I cannot for the life of me do that ‘tiger knee motion’ version of them. I realise that this is nothing new but… Man, how did my axe kicks get so shabby?

On top of that, I just feel that my gameplay in general has not progressed. I often find that I simply forget new tricks. I very rarely use Makoto’s basic combo’s (such as cr.lp, cr.lp, st.mp, EX Oroshi) and tend to favour hit confirming with axe kicks. (which as mentioned… Are not exactly perfect) I’ve hit a wall in brief, and scaling it seems impossible :frowning:

And one last thing…
A friend of mine just bought SF, and naturally I am tutoring him. He said he likes Fei Long, so I decided to learn Fei myself so that I might tutor him better. So I began learning Fei’s combos and well… I liked Fei. A lot.
No. I will not betray you Makky.

Cr.LP, St.LP, St.MP. Too much Fei. D:

I honestly thought I was done playing this game, but decided to jump back in after about 5-6 months. Good lord, I am getting owned left, right and center. I think I went 20 games without a win. Almost makes me want to stop playing again…almost.

I have a new hate… Ibuki and fei…

There’s a special place in hell for Viper and Ibuki players.

Man so after about 2 months off I decided to play again. Been playing for 3 weeks with no improvement whatsoever. Man every mistake I make is do stupid… It’s like my mind knows exactly what to do but… I’m just way too slow. And there is zero defense. Just can’t seem to defend myself lately. Man everytime I lose I keep thinking of how ashamed you guys would be if you saw me play now. The difference is pretty scary. I’m gonna keep playing but damn I can’t seem to get my head in the game.

Mossad, if you think 2 months is bad, try 5-6 months off. I was never that good to begin with. It took me forever to remember LK Tsurugi is what I’m supposed to use to change the trajectory of her jump and I’m making all the beginner mistakes again. Shit, I had to look up her safe jumps again just to verify I was doing them right. The number of losses I’ve taken are fucking discouraging.

BUT…

I’m 33 years old and I’ve just accepted no matter how much time I take away, no matter how many losses I take, no matter how free I become, I’m forever a member of the FGC. Pretty sure you’re in the same boat. (except I’ll never believe you’re free)

Well it’s weird man… Getting old. I’m 30 now. And I used to be sooooo good at any FG. Used to go to and WIN tournaments in Houston and Dallas back in marvel 2… Even went against Justin a few times and held my own. It’s not just me though lol. Justin is getting old. Rickey getting old, he’ll even Daigo is starting to lose a step it seems. I’m watching all my gods get replaced! Lmao. All good though. I just want something other than age to blame it on cause that means I can CHANGE it. But if my mind just isn’t as sharp as 22 year old Andre… And my reactions aren’t as quick… And my fundamentals are slipping, I mean there’s nothing I can do, you know? Ah well. Fuck it. I WILL play again tonight and I WILL get my ass whooped by some random Ryu/Cody/Seth and rage the fuck out! Lol. I WILL miss FFS, c.lp when I meant to LP Fuki, do hayate on block, miss the follow up to U2, and never ever EVER block. I swear to the old gods and the new (what you don’t watch game of thrones SON???), that I, MM, son of… Ok that might be too far. See you for some more rage tomorrow lol

Ibuki is my new hate in this game. Any ibuki player who can vortex can beat me and its so lame getting beaten by a vortex. Sigh… I need to spend some time in training ^^

It’s really weird…I’ve been applying more advanced stuff to my game and getting more consistent with some of her harder stuff…but now all of a sudden I drop Karakusa > U1 like all the time. I don’t even get a garbled EX Fuki to come out, I get. Big fat nothing on my screen. I have no idea what’s happened to me, I feel like I’ve lost an arm or something.

I have those days too, except I start dropping her corner Fuki combo instead. Weird right? You start to add more to your game only to see an old skill deteriorate.

I have the same age though I took 8 years off. I was even worse. I think the most serious effort I put was finishing KOF and Rage of the Dragons through save states in Nebula at that time or finishing Soulcalibour 1 and reaching Vanilla Ice on Jojo once on the Dreamcast before loosing. Only recently did I felt comfortable on a stick, I was used to keyboard and had a hard time with arcade sticks and gamepads.

Missed a ton really and impossible to cover up now. well if I can play with 1 out of 10, I’ll play with 1 out of 10. if I can improve it to 2/10 I’ll have no complains.

Put hours in that character and cant even do the basic stuff and time it properly. even those who use her as not as a main, play her better than me

I should have stuck to platformers and shmups

Props to you for playing for the love of the game and character.

Yo everytime I play a Seth I become a practice dummy lol. This character mixups just mindfuck me but when I get my knockdowns and mixups going Seth is my bitch…unless he mashes DP when im not expecting it on his wakeup and then it’s back to being a practice dummy.

I’ve actually been playing a lot of seth because of this. Basically, Tanden is WAAAAY OP vs Makoto.

Oh yeah and he’s got that DP. and an SPD. And an invincible anti air ultra or full screen ultra that beats jumps. and his super reaches full screen for full damage if you jump you die. combos out the ass. crossups out the ass. long ass arms. SONIC BOOM FADC > THE SHINING

I swear if it wasn’t for Makoto I would be Poongko 2 in this bitch lol.

Lol yeah man like WTF? Too many options. I used to be scared fighting Oni but fuck that. He aint got shit on Seth lol.

There’s no reason to be scared of Oni as long as you can recognize frame traps. He has nothing to open you up with once you get a life lead.
