Looking for Love: Ibuki General Discussion Thread

yeah, it was just a guess. i always had problems punishing adons wiffed ex upkick on wakeup cause of kunai recovery, so i guess maybe yuns upkicks are about the same recovery.however against akuma i dont have any problem punishing teleport, there is more time to punish than what it seems… i can actually react to either direction and breaker that ish down so i thought maybe it was possible against upkicks…

but yeah i think personally that yun shits all over ibuki. but that could just be me. motempest used to tell me all kinds of stuff he had found to counter the twins… they would work a bit and then they would stop working (in his own words more or less) LOL i hate ae cause of nerfed defensive ibuki, fei and the twins. fei just seemed so goddamned unwinnable it was WAY worse than playing against a good bison. fei makes bison versus ibuki feel like a 5-5 matchup.

since you play at v94 i assume you’ve played agauinst xblades fei. (goddamned fucking fei) hmm… i wonder if we’ve met.

I actually like AE a lot except for Yun and Fei lol I think Ibuki is mid-high in it and she’s definately does better than in Super. I’ve played Xblades a lot actually, he used to always beat me but I guess I’ve gotten better and now I go even with him. I hate Fei but not nearly as much as how much I hate Yun. At least with Fei I can understand why I lost but I can’t sometimes with Yun lol he doesn’t make any sense in this game I don’t understand how they made him so good.

It isnt impressive, the start up on this move is complete ass, half of these you can see him raida right before or at the same time the move is coming out. Your opponent has to be very predictable to be able to land these. Very impracticable in a real match

It’s a showcase, not a strategy guide. Enjoy the movie.
I’m sure people acted to same way to Bruce Lee’s demonstrations.

So I just won some UYG online qualifier or something with Ibuki, abusing online tactics to the max. I actually feel kind of proud of myself lol.

Hmm? What was the qualifier for? Good shit though. And is there an archive?

^&^ Congratulations!

Some 2v2 online tournament hosted by UYG: http://www.up-your-game.com/topic/5253-uyg-2v2-all-star-team-tournament/ (the teams I played start on page 5)
Brackets: http://challonge.com/images/brackets/uyg2v2pt6.png

Can’t seem to find an archive though.

All I can say is thank god the Guile team beat the Bipson team. And then Team Makoto beats Guile? Isn’t that a 6-4 matchup lol? Must be lag or something.

littlesushi you should have signed up. You def would have raped face in there, because obv nobody knows how to get out of vortex. I tried your jump kunai tactics, and they didn’t quite work even in lag. One time Boxer ultraed me for it, so yeah. Dash up gimmicks worked like a charm though. As well as overhead/throw. Actually I think they’ll be hosting 2 more qualifiers so maybe you can still get in.

Found the archive:

and again at 1:23:15
and finally 1:34:21

Edit: at 1:02:00 I noticed I accidentally did some sort of safe jump after a forward throw on Boxer. Looked mad gdlk. I’ll try to look into this.

I do that setup a lot actually after a throw, I never use medium kick to jump in with her. I saw that against that second Balrog you tried doing the OS neck breaker after knee but you hit a shadow. I wonder if that was cause of medium kick or cause he did a late reversal? How come you never went for loop btw? Either far standing jabs or the lk kick loop?

I have a PS3 but haven’t really hooked it up in over two years so it’s just collecting dust. I don’t even own SSF4 for it lol ;\\

Depends on the situation. If I plan on going air to air, then j.MK all the way thanks to hitbox. If it’s for a safe jump setup then usually j.HP, but this is online we’re talking here. So I usually went with j.MK due to faster startup and longer active frames = alot easier online.

The OS neckbreaker failed probably because I used j.MK instead of j.HP. j.MK has a more horizontal hitbox, as you know, and that’s why it’s a good crossup tool. If I used j.HP the dash punch probably would have whiffed and my option select would have come out. He didn’t do a late reversal. It did say reversal when he did it.

Tsumuji loop online? Are you insane? lol. 1f links are a nono unless you’re feeling yourself. And 2f links are risky enough, especially since I was on pad so I can’t double tap jabs, only blink with select, which I’m quite rusty with. I dished out enough damage with vortex anyways. My main concern was playing really gay to annoy my opponent and score lucky knockdowns into vortex spam. Actually it was lagging so bad I couldn’t even time the full TC4 correctly on Boxer. That’s why you kept seeing me do 3hit cuz I was doing it too fast.

Just tested the Boxer safe jump:
forward throw , walk back several frames , j.LK or j.MK

It’s not really a safe jump since headbutt/ex headbutt will always autocorrect and hit you out of the air. But it does blow up the rest of his wakeup options. If you suspect a headbutt, walk back a little more so you won’t cross up when he wakes up (but you’ll eventually get to the other side). With that timing, all of his reversals will whiff because your setup is not meaty at all. And it looks close enough to the default setup; the only way to tell is by how much you walk back after a forward throw. Alternatively you could just kunai vortex and punish his headbutt, which will be ridiculously easy in AE. Reversal headbutt usage will probably drop down to zero once AE hits, so this may not be much of a concern.

Option select neckbreaker or whatever will take care of TAP. Or kunai vortex which is probably easier.

Also important is j.LK vs j.MK usage. j.LK will almost always work unless you didn’t walk back far enough. j.MK won’t work unless he does a reversal. If he does nothing, j.MK will whiff. Both options will get beat by headbutt unless you do the delayed jump setup or kunai vortex.

Ahh, that’s why I don’t play on PS3. It just feels wrong and online feels terrible to me. Lately I’ve always been going for at least far standing jab. I don’t double tap or blink either, never got used to it and pressing select feels waaay too risky for me on the TE to get used to lol.

I did notice you doing only 3 hits a lot so I just figured it was pretty laggy. Oh well, a win is a win regardless of how you get it. If they couldn’t block standard vortex, there was no reason to stop doing it.

lol so XBL > PSN?

Do you at least plink? Dunno if this is legal or not, but if you don’t use the PPP or KKK button, you can just wire that to be the select button and then plink/blink away.

It’s legal, but it’s not going to help you when you play at the arcades/Tougeki.

Yeah, I usually don’t have a problem (assuming both of us have good connections) playing/doing anything on Xbox Live. I mean, 99% of my practice comes from online, I usually don’t go to much meetings except for tournaments even with pro players living near me.

I only recently started plinking but there’s nothing that I plink with Ibuki. I only use it for other character (mp to hp with Ryu/Akuma). I played for a while on the 360 pad when Vanilla launched so I just got used to the 1f/2f links without any assistance. I have the two x3 buttons with those fillers also.

Oops forgot to hit post lol.

So I just got double peed on by SSJ3X’s Sakura on PSN, in that 2v2 tourney thing. I am so fail. I should have mashed backdash more.

I also lost to Padlong’s Fei. Chicken wing is too damn safe online.

Against fei long at mid screen whiff standing jab and stand strong to take care of his gay shit. In matter of fact I’m uploading video know where you can see me do it lol

Update prep for AE is up for download it changes Ibuki’s command animation

The problem with whiffing things midscreen is that Fei is a goddamn monster at whiff punishing. About the only safe things to whiff is far.st.LP and st.LK since they recover fast.

Also Niko why do you keep upscaling your videos to 1080? That shit is clearly not HD lol.

Edit: just saw the video. Yeah that Fei is terrible. Stuffing random rekkas and chicken wings is not a problem. It’s wtf to do with his cr.MP and cr.HP and other great normals. It’s almost like fighting a qcf version of Chun.
