I usually spam f+mk instead of Raida in those situations. Raida works fine, but the fact that you have to do a full half circle back to pull it off, you have to buffer it just right or you can get CH something horrible if they didn’t go for the throw. F+mk is safe and you get more damage on hit and pressure on block. Matter of fact, I use this for my crouch tech more than c.lk these days. The more I mess with it, the more I understand that its not supposed to be used as an overhead…it just happens to hit overhead.
TBH I think it depends on the set up. If a good grappler is using light kicks and jabs to pressure, your best bet is probably to think about the pace of the matchup and try and take a good guess. I only try and use raida and ultra on obvious throw setups and on whiffed normals that set up throws. On another note this discussion has me wondering about the properties of tsujijoe and if it could be use to escape obvious throws setups, I’ll test this when I get home and post any discoveries.
EDIT
I tested this on Gief doing two cr. shorts into spd:
Tsujijoe - does not work at all, I was hoping for some kind of invincibility but alas it has none
Raida - It works but lp raida will make both characters whiff their throw animations at certain distances, don’t use lp raida
Hien- Lk Hien does not work for some reason but mk, hk, and ex versions do
Overhead- It does work, but I don’t like the idea of going for a 1 frame link on Gief. Its too much of a gamble
From this I have to say ex hien is probably the best choice if Gief is pressuring you with lk’s. Only because it’s definetly going to make contact with Gief as well as moving you away from him. And I would save raida for crossup into tick throws. Either way its all just a guess. However the truth is if your playing a Gief that knows how to hit confirm his combos and can get into your head none of this will help you once he’s in close.
I would be very interested in your findings.
Ahhhh I just got home from work and thought I’d have a few games online, it’s like I’ve forgotten everything!
Just got outscrubbed by three of the worst Cammy’s, psychic spiral arrows, the whole shbang.
Im starting to take a really close look at Iyo and Aquaa’s ibuki. I see that they never go for obvious frame traps and they seem to use more normals rather then tc’s. Also Iyo’s mixups and footsies are amazing. What does everybody think about the differences between american and japanese Ibuki players?
anyone got a link to iyos ibuki??? iyo is one of my favorite players if its the same guy that played sim,maki,rolento in cvs2 and sim in vanilla.
to motempest i fully agree that ibukis F+mk isnt really used as an overhead… its more of a forward moving pressure move with nice frame advantage on block… the only forward moving pressure move that ibuki has that is safe on block. andf yeah i also use it against abels that spam TT/ex TT… its REALLY good for that and for getting out of standing throws in general even against crouchtechs it wont hit cause they will recover before it makes contact… but its still good pressure versus them.
abels can get annoying when they go for air grabs against predictable F+mks though, that move really eats up ibukis slow airborn overhead.
personally i would NEVER use raida to beat a command grab, ESPECIALLY against abel… FREE F+mk dash> WORLD OF PAIN.
however if the abel is smart and is using breathless he can also u2 ibukis F+mk… so nothing is really all that safe… its all about mixups, reading, conditioning and … luck.
also didnt know if anyone knows or if its common knowledge but ibukis REGULAR kazegiris are all fully throw invincible… a neat trick versus alot of people is empty jump kaza fadc… gets people all the time if the empty jump was a crossup or if they were getting up from a knockdown.

How does one increase the technical rating on the match summary? I’ve only just noticed that BP seems related more to the technical rating than the offence and defence, so I was wondering is it sum of the number of different moves you use or… well, I don’t know, do you?
Another bonus to F+mk is that it goes over low attacks, I just wish it wasn’t so floaty. I also want some good vids of Iyo as well, so if someone could link that’d be appreciated.
BP is completely random in most cases it seems lol. PP is even worse, I am at 6000ishBP and 3700PP. I now only get like 1pp for a win and lose like 150pp when I lose.
Don’t worry about your BP, focus on improving your game. BP/PP don’t matter.
Just type “iyo ibuki” in youtube search. Theres alot of recent vids
Thanks man, I know it doesn’t really matter, but I thought if I aim to improve my technique rating my technique in general will improve as well, so we are on the same page dude just at different points on the page.
little venting;
I can do the c.lp c.lp s.lp s.mk finish combo
but when I do the tc4 s.lp s.mk finish combo
or
the tsmuji loop I usually drop the s.mk o.O
apparently 1f are easy and 3f are hard s.lp to s.mk is 3f right?
lol… you can super jump cancel lp>mp>hp combo into yoroitoshi… too bad it only combos into the crappy 0 damage version…
@Xump: Yeah, I’m pretty sure fs.lp > st.mk is 3f link.
@Linear04: This was discovered a while back, it’s hella fun to do but hard to pull off consistently. Think I’ve only done it once or twice in an actual match.
Shout outs to Buktooth for beating Ryder and I think might be in top 32 at SB. We’ll see.
I can safely say after watching Buktooths Ibuki that hes the best Ibuki in the States. I’m reluctant to call him the best in the world after seeing another Japanese Ibuki.
i miss buktooth play but was there any other ibukis?
No. (10.char)
Fubarduck was supposedly there but I never saw him on stream. Sucks cuz I keep hearing about his Ibuki. I think Buktooth once he got to top 32 never got anymore of his matches on stream. The last match he had on stream was the match where he took Ryder out of the tournament. Extremely smart play from him in that hectic matchup. Momochi blew up Buktooth earlier though. I think that’s officially another one of Ibuki’s shit matches.
