Looking for Love: Ibuki General Discussion Thread

I like it. I felt if they were going to give her a new ninja costume, it would be totally shit compared to her original. Though in-game this costume will probably just be as bad as alt 1.

I didn’t find a proper thread so, I’m new in this forum I used to main Sakura and was in that section for a long time, but since i switch from sakura to Ibuki I’ll be spending more time in here and try to pickup some things. I am able to do basic combos nothing fancy and somewhat at a 20% rate of nailing sjc ultra2.

From now on I’ll read stuff from you (good players) and watch videos on the video section

Blizer over time i would strongly recomend reading all of the ibuki matchup thread. there is a LOT of useful information in some posts that are lost somewhere in the middle. I know its 99 pages but still

Will do

To be honest I just watched some vidoes of bucktooth and DragonGod and been applying some combos and sjc in training mode she is so fun to play with. As I said before I will read a lot of stuff, back in the sakura forums I learned a lot from the game and at the time I didn’t have SSFIV and PS3 when I picked the game up I knew almost every thing about the character :stuck_out_tongue:

Me= psn pad player

GGs ghost, you have a nice Ibuki. Better then mine for sure. Though I noticed one thing you did was at the start of each round you were doing straight jump mk, not sure if this is cos you have played a lot of ranked matches and think everyone is gonna start off with a jump LOL. We need to play more as I don’t think we know the match up 100% (Well I don’t for sure… ;-;). We were both still getting hit by ambiguous kunais (Admittedly I was getting hit by them a lot more) so I think we should work on that. Good to see another british street fighter player though, at least a good one LOL. Shame you had to play like that after working a lot, hope we can play next time once we’re both playing good. :china:

Yea was fun  trouble is i think you started to get into your groove as i lost mine, towards the end you were command dashing past me and i was just not even reacting. I thought at the start your mixups were a bit predictable but after a few rounds you really started to change it up. I do do nj.mk a bit too much normally people don’t even jump but i’ve just got into a bad habit. Yea more ibuki mirrors would be good as its a strange match to play as you know only too well what an untechable knockdown means. Tbh i think the whole point of ambiguous kunai’s is that they are pretty much a 50/50 unless you get really good at reading ibuki’s positions/timings. I’ve played a few other good british players but they do seem quite far between, i have a lot of luck with good french players though. Americans make me laugh as well as i swear like most of them are guiles and i love playing guile. Its kid of annoying bout uk players though, im definately on the look out for the next uk tournament but i dont really know when it will be, i figure it will be a laugh and a learning experience.

I do have some good UK players on my friends list, it’s just good to have another one reppin’. I’m thinking about going to the next big tourney in the UK, though if it is in london it will be a big treck all the way from aberdeen  I probably won’t do to well seeing as I suck at match up knowledge and stuff. Also, before I played you I hated Ibuki’s alt. But it’s kind of grown on me now.

Ill just say this here. Since this is the General Discussion

I dont know why, but everytime I play an Ibuki player its like the most fucking boring random match for me in the game. Here she comes with her neck break slide poke. And oh there’s that jump back kunai. Its not that the match up is hard, i just dont like her style. Or maybe its because all the ibuki’s i play use the same shit. Sagat had more variety to his playstyle in Vanilla and even more in Super. Hell fighting Dhalsim is 100x more enjoyable. Sorry i just had to say it cuz it was really nagged me today when i played 4 Ibuki’s. I just dont like her. and yeah i know ill get flamed, and im not doing this to troll, i honest to god swear that i really dislike her. Feel free to talk shit about my main to. Vega.

edit: maybe i need to play an Ibuki that knows how to get shit done you know.

Every Akuma player online plays Akuma the same way too. Ibuki is just way too advanced of a character for the average Joe Shmoe to really put together. How can u expect a bad player to do anything with her but play her like a shitty version of Ryu? The stuff that makes Ibuki good requires way too much memorization and just frame timing for the average player. Hell I can’t even play Ibuki online the same way I play her offline and I can actually do real shit with her online.

^

well i played Alex (Kamisama1000) a few times when he was playing Ibuki. He had his stuff toghter, great mix ups, pressure etc. He did every thing. Diffrent mix ups, or pressure that loses to mash, mixed up those cross ups. He played great top notch as usual. Problem it wasnt very exciting. But i have to say its better than those x copy Ibuki’s that only do cross up Kunai on wake. But I guess its just that the character bores me. I guess ill stop though.

and as for your sig Devil…that is one of the biggest reasons as to why i dont like SF3 in general. The Parry, and unexciting characters with the exception of Q or Yang. I do say though, Vega looks like he would do OK in that game.

That’s her standard oki shenanigan though, it’s like complaining about DJ’s using ambiguous crossups or an akuma player doing demon flip shenanigans on wakeup instead of “being different”

Don’t you mean shitty version of Akuma? Heck, for that matter… why Ibuki over Akuma?

Well its just that its the onl thing they do. There are a shit load more set ups other than failed cross up kunai attempt #14. But its online, so i dont know why i have this dislike for her knowing players are terrible, and will make her look “boring.” Lol i answered my own question. Ill get over it though. Any of you willing to make me feel otherwise about this match up? Im always up for better competition.

The meaty kunai is not just Ibuki’s only about landing a combo. It sets up alot of what Ibuki has to offer. If it hits you, fuck it, we get a free combo. If not we move to the next mix up. Or use the last blocked meaty kunai to elevate our okizemi on our next knock down. It really doesn’t matter if you block the kunai once or twice, because at the end we’re still in a favorable position.

^Agreed, meaty Kunai, hit or blocked still leaves Ibuki at an advantage(for TC or block string), i can vouch because it was one of the first things I tried to get right and it has worked ever since. Point is that there are plenty of people trying Ibuki out, those who don’t learn her usually just play lame and back jump knifing themselves into the corner which is retarded because she’s horrible when locked in the corner. There are players who are getting used to knock down setups who really only rely on neck breaker, they need to learn incorporating it into her combos/block strings and then the varying Ibukis who have her down by practicing.

I may be use the same target combo ending with a neck breaker or tsumuji but that’s only because I am not comfortable in my ability to use the launching target combo yet. Plus I’ve played Ibuki long enough to know her strengths not to fall into direct damage which is just giving the match away and I put much effort in my vortex mix ups.

Is it common knowledge that EX penguin kick has fireball and throw invincibility?

Not to me - but awesome.

Not at all. That would bring it to about the only immediate use I’ve found for it. IMO it’s arguably her worst move. It’s just way too easy to walk/dash under and punish on reaction unless u catch the opponent doing something stupid. The move was a lot better in 3S where it only took her like 15-20 frames to go up in the air and land down on u for the overhead. In 3S all of her penguin kicks had throw invincibility so I was kinda dissapointed when I realized penguin kicks no longer had throw invincibility which diminishes their defensive uses. In 3S they also were airborne on frame 1 which allowed u to save taking damage from people fishing for BnB’s at u by resetting u in the air and back on your feet to block. Now there’s a good few frames before you go airborne and if u use it on wake up and they meaty you with a combo ur taking big counter hit damage.

DJ: Yeah tell me about it. Ibuki was my main in SI and secondary in 3S. Oh how I miss those days where Ibuki had a solid footsie game. Maybe she never did. I can never tell sometimes with OS parry being so good lol. I miss you F+HK :frowning:

Yeah I’ve found thats about the only good use for it. Against meaty fireballs its a good tool to have when getting locked down in the corner with projectiles. Also it helps alot against grapplers, being that most command grabs have super long recovery on wiff. Havent tested it much, but punishes Abel’s TT. Still kinda gimicky, though not as much anymore shrugs

Speaking on that discussion…what do u normally use to deal with command grabs when a grappler is pressuring you with tick grabs? Tsumuji was talking about how raida was good for beating Abel’s TT’s because it leaves him too far away to punish with anything unless he has ultra available. Well at least that’s what he said any way. You can always backdash but Ibuki’s backdash pushes her really far away and has slower recovery that can get punished if abused.
