Looking for Love: Ibuki General Discussion Thread

Good riddance.

Finding setups for DWU is easy, just need to know how to add, and maybe subtract in some cases. I already have some ideas for Chun li safe jumps that need to be tested.

I understand WHITE GUN, but what specifically leads you to your critique about Suwutwinkle?

Suwutwinkle told me, we played some mirrors and he joked about me being the best Ibuki, but his execution is also on point. Mine is terrible, and the only matchup I can do well in is the mirror. If anyone has a capture card willing to upload from of my Ranked games that would be great.

Judging from how much worse my performance is on XBL than the Arcades “can’t break 2700PP”, I think I should stick to making tutorials and showcasing ideas. But if I am allowed to go a bit out of my depth, I want to say that Ibuki players are far more likely to do well with her on USF4, regardless is being lower on a “tier list” her Vortex is more creative and effective in real matches. BP (why are we calling it that) kara is Rekka levels of decent. When you get someone in the corner and constantly put in the chip damage with one of the best anti-airs in the game, Ibuki really is good in this version.

Just to point out, White Gun isn’t terrible, he is definitely more decent than most Ibuki’s I have played, he’s just an online warrior. If he played as much offline as he did online he would be up there as one of the notable Ibuki players. But hey, I can only judge from the mirror.

Someone told me this was on youtube…not really my best game play but commentary makes me laugh lol

I didn’t say he was the worst Ibuki of all time. His style and fundamentals make me scratch my head so many times whenever I see him play and I get more confused on how many times he got away with stuff aka online. Some people also think he’s the best Ibuki in the world (wtf?).Also consider that most people in the online world are free to Ibuki. I even reached 4k PP without hitting 10k BP. When he plays Yun, he actually plays the game better! I just don’t think Ibuki is his character. He beat Velociraptor convincingly (IIRC) at this year’s NCR with Yun. Then when they meet up again at losers’ side, somehow White Gun didn’t pick Yun, used Ibuki instead for 2 straight games without a thought of switching, and got bodied free. I don’t know wtf he was thinking.

I met White Gun at UFGT. He’s a super nice guy and he’s definitely trying to get better. I think he’s been to SCR, NCR, UFGT, and Canada Cup. I feel like he gets a bad rap for playing online but he goes out to majors and plays which is very good.

I think it is stupid that he gets a bad rep just because he plays a bunch of online. If he was never on the leaderboards people wouldn’t judge him as much and see that he is pretty good. We aren’t all Justin Wongs, I hope everyone who says he is terrible realises they aren’t either.

Nazghoul boosted and sent stupid messages, but he was still one of the better Ibuki’s online. Many of his faults were faults every Ibuki has had at some point, and he really wanted to get better as well. Leave the hate to the primary school playgrounds, we are all playing this game to learn it and because we enjoy playing it.

Ibuki Player Guide wouldn’t be any good if I forced everyone to have an elitist attitude. It is there to share information with other Ibuki players, so that everyone can enjoy learning the character.

Not hating on the guy, I don’t even know him. I just don’t like his play and there’s nothing wrong with having a negative opinion about someone’s play style. In fact, I do this to some Ibuki players, but when I talk to them, they’re pretty cool people to talk to.

I still think Ibuki isn’t his character, but I can’t force anyone to main a character. It’s all his choice. I like seeing his Yun better than Ibuki, and he can improve a lot better if he decides to drop her and main Yun. Who knows, maybe he’ll play more solid if he decides to drop Ibuki for a while and come back to her again since he can get rid of some of the bad habit he has that way.

Fair enough, but the tone of your first reply “good riddance” was as if he brought shame to Ibuki players. He doesn’t, his execution is really nice but there is something we can all learn from that.

Imo ever since Sako became very popular as an Ibuki player, people learning her have been trying to do Tsumuji loops and SJCs when it isn’t necessary. Even if they can do it 80% of the time, they lose more games than would have won because of the extra bit of damage.

Sako became really good when he learnt unblockables for pretty much every character, and while I haven’t seen Iyo play, I imagine that DWU doesn’t change anything with how he plays because he was always good reacting to other people’s habits. Despite the fact that his execution is really good against the CPU, he hardly ever used loops in game because he wanted to be perfectly solid. It’s a shame I want able to play against him again when USF4 came out. Hopefully he makes an appearance for SBO.

The easy White Gun plays isn’t the best, sure. But it is the direction all new Ibuki players were headed when the whole Tsumuji looping was the coolest thing about Ibuki. Setting people practice it even today despite not having any setups for DWU boggles my mind.

USF4 doesn’t need SJC apart from after TC6 and TC8, and that is something I am very happy about.

Funny. I started learning Tsumuji loops and shit cause I thought it was necessary. Then I was just like…fuck it. I only do it off overhead anyway and can just go into neckbreaker. Fuck looping. Not that I won’t but I never go farther than overhead/short cr.lp lk tsumuji st.lp st.mk neckbreaker.

Footsies, oki and resets all the way.

I didn’t even know there was disdain for White Gun. I mean…the double perfect thing was funny but it’s happened to everyone and a lot of it was circumstance more than anything to mock the guy for. If it weren’t for the “let’s see what the number 1 XBL Ibuki has” comments people probably would have just taken it as another game.

Maybe there’s more online stuff than people like but if he went to more offline stuff I’m sure that’d stop.

His Yun is pretty good too.

Haha you’re in a DSP video! Good on you! I have a Mak player at my locals who always says a similar thing about my pressure, usually “WHAT CANT SHE CANCEL OR LINK INTO!?”

Also on the topic of WhiteGun, sure he got blown up a while back (I remember my jaw dropping in horror) but I respect the fact that he continues to play, continues to travel, and continues to try. It’s gotta be hard to swallow a loss like that, so power to him for sticking with it.

You definitively got better since we last played in AE2012–keep at it in Ultra!

And yes, hilarious commentary as always from DSP.

Hey guys, I’m trying to get back into SF4 with Ultra, been outta the loop for a while. I’m thinking of picking up Ibuki. Are there any good resources out there for learning the character? There’s like a million stickies in this sub forum and I’ve tried sifting through them for relevant info, but it’s tough to know what’s useful/outdated. I realize that Ultra is still new, so there’s still probably new things everyone is learning about the character, but was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. If not, I’ll just have to grind it out one match at a time, which is fine.

I was using a trollish kind of tone, but I guess it’s hard to tell by text. Will try to pick better words next time.

Execution part, I told my students the same thing you taught me; focus on fundamentals first. Fundamentals always come first, your execution will improve in time as you play anyway. So many Ibukis I’ve played have a much better execution than mine, yet they can’t beat me because they’re lacking fundamentals. There are literally a lot of Ibukis that can only do tsumuji loops and cool SJC combos but lack other areas to play solidly.

However, at some point, you don’t want to limit yourself with just basic combos because a good execution can end matches faster so you don’t have to keep outplaying your opponent more than you have to. I’m a huge victim of this where I already outplay my opponents, but end up getting killed instead because I can’t deal enough damage/mess up my setups to kill my opponent first. Execution is holding my tournament performance back and I’m having a hard time going past 2-2 in Norcal. I guess my shitty luck with the brackets comes into play too. Last tourney, PR Rog was my 2nd opponent, had John Choi as my 1st opponent twice so far, and FChamp as my 2nd opponent at FGTV tournament I went to, and other countless times. Positive thing I can take advantage of my bad luck is experience with playing top players lol.

Speaking of which, we should play each other Moon. Send me a message on XBL and I should be able to see it on my phone etc.

I don’t have a console :(. I have to wait until PC release to play Ultra, which I’m down to play with you again!

We can play AE though, DWU doesn’t affect the mirror

Anyone able to upload replays from Xbox 360?

Here are a couple of newer games with Wolfkrone and others.

Other changes to USF4 Ibuki

– MK Tsumuji Loops no longer work. I should have known this before but it is a shame. I used to hit it perfect. No big deal though.

– BP kara and special cancels are its only use. You can trade with kara Kazegiri from fireballs. BP into Red Focus is useless because you can only do it after punishes and if you have ultra it is better to just SJC into it. After stun this combo makes no sense as it increases scaling. Again, BP Red Focus is basically useless outside of focus trapping (please don’t).

– TC8 into Ultra 1 is insanely good. Almost the same damage and knockdown as EX Tsumuji Ultra 1 but can be done anywhere and is easier to do. Best way to maximise damage after a stun and cause a hard knockdown for Vortex (unless in corner, at which point a RAW U1 is better).

– cr.HP SJC Red Focus doesn’t work because the cr.HP itself isn’t being cancelled (d’oh).

– I tried for ages trying to get st.MP meaty to work with Red Focus. I can pull it off on wakeup just not in a combo. If anyone manages to find a way to get this to work please let me know.

– I didn’t know you could double loop Dudley (without using cr.LP). What in USF4 makes this change? I heard you can’t loop guy but I don’t understand what’s causing this.

You really mean st.MP? nor cr.MP? cuz I don’t see a way for st.MP to combo into ex red focus, still if you want mid combo meaties Michael Galardi showed some (around 0:45 )
