Looking for Love: Ibuki General Discussion Thread

it should be common knowledge by now.

i wrote about it awhile ago. mk tsumuji can be interrupted between the st.mk xx tsumuji or between its second or 3rd hits on block.

it really sucks actually but ive seen it to be baitable, like if a shoto tries to reversal inbetween your blockstrings but you instead did nothing, you get an easy free untechable or a cr.mp xx u2.

once they get hit by those they stop trying to as much… but still its a big hassle imho anyways. ibuki sometimes really has me down on her, she seems overly balanced imho, as if capcom was really scared of her getting out of hand, and just decided to play it really safe when it comes to her.

i mean i really picked her up besides the fact that i loved the character, because i loved her ambiguous crossups and i figured that she’d be one of those characters that gets “free” jumpin moves like viper, rufus, adon etc. etc.

i was hoping she’d be rushdown like viper. but she realy doesnt have that great of tools for rushdown. she is more like akuma than viper.

then add in all of the hitbox issues she has, which are really stupid in sf4 imho. i know of combos that dont wiff on block but do on hit… and combos that dont wiff on hit but do on block, and moves that wiff on hit when at certain ranges, yet dont wiff on block at those same ranges, and vice versa. her target combos are really annoying wiffing on half the cast. her air target combos are hard to use… nowhere near as good as chuns. her crossup when playing footsies is bad, cause its easily walked out of because of her floaty jump. her shitty wakeup game that will get her crumpled for getting her ex kaza blocked… compare that to chuns blocked ex sbk which usually gets punished by nothing but a sweep, and hits on both sides.

i could go on and on, but in the end i find playing her extremely satisfying when i win, even though i know that getting W’s, if that were all i was after would be a fuck of alot easier with any other character… i mean that i dont even use ryu in this game, cant really do many of his bnb’s cause i havent practiced tham and yet hes probably just as effective as my ibuki at this point. i dont play chun anymore and yet shes tons better than my ibuki still…

thats frustrating, especially when taking losses to weaker opponents.

but its the plight of ibuki imho, play her for fun, play other characters to win.

There’s no such thing as block strings in SFIV. That’s been common knowledge for a while. Ono made the game so no one can ever be locked down by anything smart. If u aren’t jabbing them or dive kicking on them…forget it. The entire game is based around baiting people to throw out reversals. When I get in peoples face unless I know they’re not gonna dp I stick to jabs until one hits.

i don’t really go on the site too much, and i don’t post either, but i thought the s.mk/c.mp shit would be worthwhile posting, especially if people didn’t catch that before. also, i know what you mean on her strings being inconsistent… all too well. it’s really irritating.

I don’t think you really have to play Ibuki for fun anymore than you do Viper. Viper has her issues too and her “rushdown” really isn’t that good. If the opponent knows which special move you are going to do during your rushdown you’re basically fucked as far as actually hitting the person with it. Which is why her game is based so much around feints and getting the opponent to knee jerk react to a bunch of gaps in your offense. Viper has IMO a harder time locking people down than Ibuki because Viper doesn’t even have a real jab based game. Her jabs don’t even go into anything worth talking about.

That’s the main problem I have with Viper. Her fundamentals are just terrible. Not just on a poking standpoint because arguably having a long ranged cancellable normal (c.MK) is pretty good. It’s jus the issue that she can’t land knockdowns off of anything but her special moves and throws. So getting a knockdown with Viper is almost solely based around getting the opponent to flinch against a special move or throw out the wrong move against a burn kick or some shit like that. Which burn kicks don’t even give you untech knockdowns which are almost a requirement for locking the opponent down at all. The only really good thing Viper has IMO is the ability to get a lot of damage for trading with a jump in and mainly her ability to just do more damage per combo than anyone else in the game. Though the amount of solid ways she has to land that big damage are little. Her game is pretty much around looking to feint and land big damage by faking people out and getting them to flinch against moves that have 15 plus frame start up. Viper is really good at landing random ass risky setup high damage and that’s pretty much the only reason she’s good. Though that’s all you need to be good in Super SFIV now that everyone else’s damage has been toned down. If your character still does a ton of damage and stun in a game where a lot of other characters don’t…you’ll make it through even if your ways to do it fundamentally are limited.

Viper is rushdown only if the opponent doesn’t know what she’s doing. If the opponent knows what she’s gonna do her rushdown is pretty much eliminated due to how huge the gaps are inbetween any decision she makes that uses a special move. Just watch her fight Honda or Balrog. She can’t rush them down any better than Ibuki can. Ibuki can even rush down Honda better than Viper. Viper can’t rushdown Honda because she has no way to keep Honda out that doesn’t involve knowing the exactly movement Honda is going to do. So there’s no way for her to control her space against Honda because she’s always worried about Honda rushing her down. Viper’s lack of fundamentals and safe ways to land untech knockdowns kills her ability to actually rushdown. It’s just a bunch of gimmick shit.

Sure, Ibuki is missing a little bit of that scariness from mid range that Viper has though I’ll deal with it if it means my close range game is for the most part stronger. As long as I can keep walking up to people with s.LP or c.LP they have a good bit to worry about because any of those landing can easily turn into an untech knockdown which I can capitalize on. Unless I’m fighting a character like Rufus or Cammy that can immediately take to the air to get away from the jabs once I get in with Ibuki I feel pretty comfortable.

There’s definitely a good hit box issue with Ibuki’s BnB’s and in a way it reminds me of having to learn to play a character in Guilty Gear. You have to understand which BnB’s work on which characters and at what ranges or you’ll be whiffing shit all over the place. Which is why in the long learning to plink 1 frame c.LP to s.MK will be a must. This is the only BnB Ibuki has that works from a decent range and doesn’t have anything real specific as far as hit boxes concerning the reliability. I’ve been really trying to work the c.LP to s.MK BnB whenever I can to not have to worry about hit box issues and it’s been working so far. It’s really easy to confirm 2 c.LP’s into s.MK into whatever the hell else u want. Especially considering her jabs and target strings are the only real strings she has that can’t be DP’d. Just jab the shit out of people basically.

Does every topic need to end up justifying using Ibuki? Godamn

^ some people just like to cry about how hard everything is

I was going to make a sex joke about this but I decided not to.

interesting vid i picked up off of xbox live:

What’s so interesting about scrub Boxer almost pwning some random Ibuki?

Wow, for a while I thought that was me playing until I seen his BP. What was with him doing EX kunai so much? I’m gonna guess he was trying to stuff EX dash punches, but damn. Also I noticed he was whiffing raida for meter (Which is what I do when I’m at full screen). Do any of you guys do that?

That Boxer wasn’t a scrub, he wasn’t incredible but he obviously knew what he was doing to an extent. He threw the odd hopeful dash punch but apart from that he wasn’t that bad. Good timing on the laugh at the mashed Kazegiri at the end, haha.

I think he was laughing at boxer’s massive jab attempt to not lose from that comeback! that ending is there anyway to do a mix up with that or is it just more pressure?

Yeah, he knew how to mash jab and random dash punch and headbutt every single damn chance he got. He knew what he was doing alright.

yeah i was laughing at the boxers mashed jabs… lol he was no scrub, he played patiently and picked his spots well… he wasnt perfect but who is?

i thought the mashed jabs were funny cause it was a strict contrast to his very patient orthodox style… it was like you could just see him thinking “i didnt know this guy was capable of that, and now i have no clue what to do.”

also random dash punches are good… lol what do you want boxer to do? PREDICTABLE ONES? lol, as if. also his headbutts were almost all designed to go through presdicted ibuki loose strings… not scrubby in my book, the one that he got blocked on wakeup was cause he was guessing a meaty kunai… but he guessed wrong…it happens to everyone.

anywho yall i’m getting some more replays off the jap side for ibuki, some really tight shit and unorthodox styles… and i dont want to hear jack shit from you mingo cause our video thread is sparse as fuck.

I often go to the replay channel to look for some good Asian ibuki vids. I haven’t found any too good one’s yet sadly, but I guess that’s just xbox live. Mind if I hit you up on xbox live Dime? Would be good to get some Ibuki mirror’s in seeing as I never play them, and if I do they all suck but still somehow get most of my life off me.

i dont really like playing online, i have shitty connections to friends that live a mile away from me… playing overseas would make me want to punt my stick the length of a football field.

besides that, im not really fond of ibuki mirrors.

Well if everyone who makes mistakes or has a bad habit whilst playing Street is a scrub then I’m sure a lot of us are struggling… like Dime said no-one is consistent and perfect. I’m sure it’s a crutch for most Boxer players, you learn to rely on that jab to get you out of jail. The dash punches were from close in and not easy to react to, he applied pressure and looked decent, no world beater but certainly no scrub either. And yeah, I somehow only just noticed all the jab mashing in his inputs.

I’m much like Jordun, I saw a few replays from an A Rank asian Ibuki the other day and, if anything he really didn’t look that great. His PP was around the mid-4000’s, but he didn’t have any of the advanced stuff down from what I saw, no tsumuji links or SJCs. But I guess that’s the advantage of recording your own matches, it’s easy to watch and criticise/analyse where people go wrong in terms of mental mistakes (rather than technical ones like dropping links) but obviously it’s infinitely harder to apply that to your own games.

If you guys are interested. I’ll look in my battle log and upload some of my matches. I think my old dazzle will work on my laptop.

Oh yeah, sorry dime. I forgot about overseas bullshit. it’ll be good to see some of your matches someguy. I’m wanting to get some good quality video’s of me playing Ibuki, but truth is I actually suck really bad. and the video’s that have been recorded of me were it was 3.30am and I did an all nighter the night before, so I hadn’t slept in a while and was pretty tired… and guess what? the guy only recorded the ones of me playing really badly. I might ask him to record the ones where I did play decently. Might be a long shot though. Other than that, who else wants to hit me up on xbox live? so many Ibuki’s are on psn…

So is it me or do Ibuki’s pokes really, really suck? - Every time I try to footsie w/ someone I get owned…hard, all you see on their side of the screen is Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!, Counter Hit!

Am I failing cause of old age and my timing sucks or do her pokes really suck?
