My uncle has the board for an old SF. I think it’s Championship Edition. If you want to buy it (and I mean just the board. He has many boards, but only 1 machine), offer away and I can talk to him.
Another idea for you to conisder is putting MAME on a PC and hooking it up to a arcade machine. I don’t know how exactly, but my uncle did this with his arcade machine and it was pretty damn cool. (he had only 3 of the 6 buttons plugged in though)
When you open up, I’ll bring my PS3 and TV down to attract my Tekken/Virtua Fighter buddies. (don’t have a PS3 now, but I should definitely have it by then)
I’ve only recently moved to LI. Are all those arcades still around?
unfortunately no… space plex is closed, that was the spot. I don think smithhaven mall even has an arcade anymore. Bayshore mall, and other miscellaneous nathans and stuff just dont have games anymore either. So shitty. I wonder if arcades will ever make a comeback
I would be willing. (although as far as 2D goes, I’m more interested in CvS2)
I know many guys from TekkenZaibatsu who have Tekken: DR sessions every Friday at SBU, and I’ve been meaning join one.
I’ll probably try to get Virtua Fighter 5 sessions going there on my off days once I get my PS3.
Let us of know when other sessions are going on and we’ll see who can be there.
Is Spaceplex completely gone? If it’s still up and empty, perhaps we should all consider teaming up to buy it and turn it into one of the most kick-ass arcades in America.
Yep. I too am pretty sure that Smith Haven Mall doesn’t have an arcade.
The arcade in South Shore Mall isn’t too bad. Tekken: DR and 3rd Strike is there at least. Beatmania is pretty cool. Plus there’s room for console tourneys. (the upcoming DR tourney there [this Sunday] will be played on PS3s as well as the arcade machine. And I’m gonna try to run at least 1 VF5 tourney there someday)
Spaceplex became an indoor hockey place… many, many moons ago. I used to go there everyday…then one day I show up, and the doors are locked. Even people who worled there were blindsided. Never to be opened again. A few months later, Sports Plus opened up. I ended working there as a game tech for a bit.
SmithHaven is without an arcade for awhile now too. Although its not as highly regarded as the capcom fighters, Killer Instinct came along when there was a whole in the fighting game scene. SmithHaven had the best KI players around. Floyd, Keith, Joe, Lance, Wes, Victor… all those guys were awesome. I used to drive around LI just looking for machines to leave my High Score initals with the 48hit Ultra combo by Orchid. People would even taunt each other on those Hi-Score screens with short 3 letter word messages. “ACE YOU SUK BIG DIK”… I almost peed myself when I saw that on some random machine at the old Microplay on 110.
I still miss the arcade culture. I used to have so many friends through the 'cades. I even thought about openeing up a small one with just fighting games and shooting games… but its just not worth it. Its impossible to make a profit from just arcade machines. Its good to know that the fighting scene is still going strong though. But I miss the old days…
Hey Wilson, I heard from Dan that you play GG Slash a lot. PM me your cell and stuff so that we can get some games together.
BTW Cla, this is Injuin. With very few sessions lately, I’d like to play other stuff just in case the other stuff falls through. Also my gf likes GG a lot better than Tekken, so that’d give her something to do rather than loiter all over the place.
Oy, what’s up man. :wgrin: I’m actually not too familiar with GG, (tried the first one once and didn’t like it that much) but with GGXX Slash in Evo this year, I am willing to learn that game at least. (although, it’s a Team Tourney, so I’d have to get a team before I get uber-serious about practicing)
But it seems GGXXS has not come out in America and no one’s even certain that it ever will. But I might have a solution… I’ll get back to you on this.
Damn. That’s just evil.
+1,000,000 points for use of “many many moons ago”.
Heh. I remember the ol’ days like that. Well, the KI scene can come back if you can round up the ol’ players. Castle Golf has KI, and one of the people who work there is pretty good. I’d be willing to learn it if people were going to start playing it again.
I remember a Hi-Score battle I had on Ehrgeiz once. I got 1st place with Cloud and entered my “initials”. (I used “Bob” back then) Then I come back another day and “TLM” has taken 1st place. So I beat the score and reclaim my spot. Then I come back another day and TLM has beaten me again. While playing, a guy sees me pwning with Cloud and says “You must be BOB”. Yep, it was TLM. So that was pretty cool actually. Good times.
CTF over in Chinatown not only does well, but is revered as one of the top 5 arcades in all of America! If we can make a place like it but capitlize on CTF’s problems, (very small place, uber-cramped, nowhere to sit, no bathroom) it would do very well.
What about Time Out in Roosevelt (that was the isht) and Sunrise mall? Broadway mall? Westbury Nathans? I’m an old-school LI player myself so I might’ve bumped into you back then. My buddies and I used to roam around LI (mostly Nassau) looking for comp for SF2, SamSho, and the Marvel versus series. Damn those were the good old days.
Get the word out to them. The scene could come back.
Reminder: The DR tourney at South Shore Mall is tomorrow (Sunday) at 1:00PM. (sign-ups at 12) If I have enough money, I’ll play you all in 3s. Also, if any of you have PSPs, I will play you in DR on PSP as well as any other PSP fighters you have. (DR is the only fighter I have on PSP)
Again, I’m the guy with long hair. (check out my vids so you know what I look like)
Fun tourney. I saw some people at the 3s machine. I didn’t have the money to play though.
Ok everyone, listen up: Castle Golf is officially open now. The Capcom Vs SNK 2, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Tekken 4, and Killer Instinct machines are still there. I forgot to look for new games. (I was in there for only a couple of minutes)
I begin working there again on April 4th. Come meet me won’t you? :wgrin:
Don’t wait till April 4th though. Come earlier and give them some business and I may get to start earlier.
Your best bet for cvs comp. on LI is green acres. Usually if you go after 4 or 5 you can find people playing there during the week. On weekends it’s kinda random, but people are usually there late.
Yes, Castle Golf is a full arcade. There’s also Go-Karts and Mini-Golf behind the arcade.
Currently, my first day back is planned for April 4th. I’d go there earlier for a random session with any of you guys, but I don’t have the money to play and I don’t wanna try snagging free tokens while off the clock.
I look forward to CvS2 matches. (I’m really anxious to try my team. [Mai +1, Athena +1, and Yuri +2 on A-Groove) I’ll try learning KI.
Went up to Castle Golf today… totally spur of the moment, was bored figured what the heck might as well see it. Checked out Killer Instinct, machine is in good condition thats for sure, buttons and sticks were crisp and worked well. Didnt play anything else though, just popped in for maybe a 1/2 hour if that. Pretty cool, gave me a bit of a nostalgic feeling. There are no little arcades with older games like that around really anymore.
