Let us talk about USFIV Zangief here

I asked Combofiend specifically if rfa would crumple from lpgh and he said no, I then asked if it was ex only and he clarified “it will crumple off of mpgh or harder”. Didn’t get to test because there were only 4 setups, event started 2 hours late and nobody was fucking around with testing anything. I pretty much only played Smug aka beast mode. Poorly run event really. Some well known players just plain wouldn’t stand up from their setup, and people paid $10 to essentially watch a couple who shall remain nameless players practice for a long ass time. Seemed like later on they got it more organized but I feel really bad for the guy who drove from Boston or the people who waited for hours to be the first and then they had to wait even longer.

If it works on MPGH that is so good. Because a far whiffpunish with s.lk XX LPGH/EXGH fadc release would just whiff. but with MPGH it would be blocked, because mpgh travels further and does not push back on hit(like exgh). But if regular focus gets blocked, why would Red focus hit? is the speed buffed for the sake of red focus utility? if so kudos to Capcom, but I doubt that they would do that?

from what i remember exgh is exactly the same as AE.
now that i think gief is going to stay with these changes
this is Some other stuff i tested and other things:

  1. after lets say lpgh or exgh, if you do lpgh you can beat backdash, back jump and neutral jump(you will recover in time to lariat). after they know lpgh can punish all that then they are going to start blocking which we can then spd or mash something which we can block. guessing all day lol.

  2. after spd lpgh is so fast that if you do clp or clk it will whiff and sometimes opponent can see you are trying to do a meaty attack and can mash something. after spd i was doing mpgh to time my attacks better.

  3. lpgh can punish akuma chk on block if they dont do it at max range.

  4. S.mp is bad but usable. just dont do it like we do it now. back to back to back lol do one and bait or whiff punish.

  5. didnt try mpgh cancel to red focus but you can do chp cancel to red focus for more than 500 damage(no one is gonna use chp anyways)

  6. i have a feeling that in about a month there is gonna be a solution for DWU. for example after knockdown whiff X move and safe jump or something like that.

  7. after a block blanka ball, we can now do lpgh to get close and be safe. dindt try regular spd after it but exspd and exrbg worked.

  8. el fuerte is more stupid now. his quesadilla bomb is invincible to everything and can used as anti air. honestly i hate him more than sagat.

  9. gief is better overall. but i miss s.mp.

That’s what I may be afraid of. LPGH is too godly. I wonder if the other grapplers can safe guard against back jump, back dash, and neutral jump? Because when you subtract those options, the opponent doesn’t have much left. Block, throw, reversal or ground starter combo, although forward jump would safely evade LPGH.

Once Zangief masters chained cr.lp o/s LPGH. It’s game over for average quality back dashes and jumps. Leaving only block and reversal. And the beauty is, after SPD-LPGH or MPGH, Delayed Wake-up won’t change that option select pressure.

I fear the LPGH will become overpowered. It is definitely the one true messiah. And that is without considering its poke whiff punishing potential. It’s versatility will be HUGE:

  • Mobility and positioning tool
  • possibly improved projectile banish
  • option select light xx LPGH
  • hit confirm combo ender
  • chained cr.lp o/s xx LPGH pressure
  • poke whiff punisher

What are the odds of LPGH getting nerfed? I sure hope not, because he needs it to keep up with the Jones.

Its a good and improved move, thats for sure. but OP? No.

If LPGH stays -2 on hit, then why bother to use st.mp? Why not just buffer cr.lp into LPGH?

Guys I really dont think delayed wake up really gief a lot
The delayed wake up system is kinda stupid, the “technical” reminder appears really early after opponent get knocked down
We have plenty of time to adjust our cross up set up after we see “technical” word

LPGH in the previous version is kinda stupid which is -5 on hit, so damn unfair
Gief is now just gain back what he should have, it is a reasonable buff, but may be Evansgambit have some more in-depth understanding which we haven’t alerted :slight_smile:

We’ll just have to see it in its application. I think LPGH will make it a living hell for Zangief’s easier match-ups.

Because of the speed, it might be dangerous against a cornered opponent. It all comes down to whether or not, LPGH can easily be whiff punished, at a reasonable range. There might be a range where they can’t whiff confirm and punish you.

I don’t think I have to answer that for the same reason we have table tea and desert spoons. But good attempt. In what context are you conferring the use of cr.lp xx LPGH in place for far mp?

I yhink he means that all buffered lights will take the place of using s.mp.for example s.lp has slightly less range but can be used the same way as s.mp with a lpgh buffer

Good luck with Gief guys, I applaud you for sticking with him. I’ve been playing Hawk way more these last couple months and I’m more than likely going to him. Some here think he’ll be good but I still think he’s getting worse yet again and I’m sick of it.

instead of jump splash (2 hp) c.lp , c.lp or c.lk , c.lk for hit confirm you can do jump splash cl s.mk , s.mp (1f gap on block) and if it hit s.lk xx lp/exgh
or go only for cl s.mk on block you can frame trap/block/spd/whatever u are +2 on hit u continue your combo
also Crouch LK +5 on hit is huge , lpgh makes gief mobile and no one will throw fb in a full super gief wayyy too scary
