Hmmm, I feel that it is indeed an overall negative.

EXGH forcing stand on hit, just makes EVERY single Zangief save up for that SUPER - which is stupid! The buff will only apply when you have full bar, so rarely in certain match-ups. But it does make those Zangief who counter poker xx EXGH or reaction EXGH, very dangerous. Because face it, hit confirming into EXGH-RFC, does pathetic damage.

But the most important part, is the reduced range on LPGH. Which may make it less useful in o/s light poke xx LPGH, there may be an increased danger that you whiff. And then your shafted 14 frames of recovery. Plus, for raw LPGH punishes, you may be in trouble. El Feurte’s Q-Bomb vs Zangief has one of the best expected values in the game. With a reduced range LPGH and no meter for EXGH, it may be free damage against Gief. After blocking, you might get nothing without EXGH. Similarly, other whiff punishes like Oni’s F+HP, might be affected.

The reduced range of LPGH, may also have an effect with o/s against back dashes, if you can no longer reach them.

LPGH’s increased push back on hit, will definitely mean, that AS is not a viable option. Because then, against back dash and jump back, all AS’s will convert to RBG. The only saving grace, is if LPGH’s push back, puts Zangief outside of their throw or 3 frame range. Then you have more room to work with, and back dash may be a viable option.

The LP GH is definitely a harder change than the trade off for EX GH.

It’s use as an OS is now even more limited. We’ve also lost oki situations, spacing, etc. EX GH forcing stand for red focus combos does not cover the loss there.

Agreed, after falling asleep I feel like an idiot for thinking it could work out. Our post-SPD oki is going to be worse, we may lose OS’s and if we have to use EX GH to end our hit confirms then we’re just playing AE 2012 Gief with worse st.MP, LP SPD, j.HP and LP GH in exchange of one option that we have once per match. Not a good tradeoff.

Why reduce the range then? Why do they always think that one of his moves is too strong when it’s not? Potentially this change could be devastating to him and be a total game changer in the wrong way.

Exactly what I thought after reading these notes. I hope this isn’t significant enough to affect some of Gief’s most vital options, but if it wasn’t, they probably wouldn’t even nerf him this way.

The way they treat grapplers, I bet they’re gonna nerf Hugo to death in the next patch (after this one) because they buffed his jab now.

Yeah, the bottomline is as long as we can still punish moves like q-bomb and other stuff then no problem but if they completely take away those punishes then that’s total bs and a horrendous nerf to him. I’m not feeling good about this as usual.

wow…you cant even punish q bomb with this…they found a way to make this horrible…plus side…its easier to stop fireballs now

This seems to be an extremely game-changing nerf to our Oki game. I am baffled.

no your not it takes 2 to catch up and by that time there already standing you can still do medium and be in range…but you cant do a cross up attempt its too slow…you can still combo it…but after you hit them they get pushed out to a range that makes it hard to keep going at them…im not an amazing player…but i would say its going to be harder to keep pressure on players but easier to deal with fireballs…

Wow, just tested it out for a few minutes and this is a total joke imo. You can’t even punish Ryus sweep now at certain ranges where you could before. So now we get absolutely nothing after a whiff punish or anything. Seriously, f*** you Capcom this makes no sense at all and once again you make Gief worse for no reason whatsoever.

I think Zangief is worse than in v.2012 now. Less SPD range, -frames after LP-SPD Greenhand(because we need to use mp-gh.)

Push gief back on hit? Sure I think its fair.
Destroy the range of the move so that its useless? Not fair.

I really think this change might be the worst so far since Vanilla and that’s really saying something. He was perfectly fine and then they decide to do this. I’m still hoping they realize how retarded this was and revert it back.

This is sad, I’ve been working on my gief for awhile now, trying to make him my co-main. not sure if it’s worth it anymore :frowning:

I guess he’ll be my omega main, if that turns out to be any fun.

I can’t seem to find any reasoning behind this nerf. Why would Capcom alter such a major part of Zangief’s game? Snake Eyes won too many tournaments?

After just playing some matches for about an hour I’m done with this game unless they change this shit. Every mu is worse now and he feels just terrible, I mean really terrible.

I genuinely don’t understand why Capcom treat Zangief like this. Every patch they give him something minor and hammer the rest of his toolkit. He’s not allowed to have anything good. It boggles the mind.

He’s such a limited character and they take away what little tools he has. How can other games have decent balance and 5 years after the original release SF4 ends up like this?
