Let us talk about USFIV Zangief here

i like doing the cr.lp lp hand and cr.lp s.hk OSes after lp hand combo but i don’t know which chars it works on

Hmmm… I’m going to say, that its not viable. It can’t beat anything. After LPGH, your -2 on hit. If you throw out a cr.lp, that’s 6 frames of gap before it hits. Any jump would have already escaped, any 3 frame normal from your opponent would hit you first.

I think your confusing the LPGH on hit, with the SPD-LPGH or cr.hk or AS setups performed on their wakeup.

Yeah. You just need the right setup for it. cr.lp cr.hk o/s or cr.lp s.hk o/s.

Though I’ve only played sf4 since ae 2012, I believe ultra gief (from messing around edition select) is the best zangief versionby far. The lp gh buff is the best buff zangief could have ever gotten–it is what he needed from the beginning and now allows him to have at least a decent speed. You can use it during a buffer, catch backdashes, and even whiff punish because its so fast (faster than st. mk!!!). Zangief can be much more aggressive with less of a risk, especially against players with bad defense.

And lets not forget both the red focus xx and cr. lk buff, which increases zangief’s reliable comboability drastically, especially if you plink. Zangief is one of the most scariest characters with super now–you can get almost 400 damage just off of a st. lk.

And evan’s gambit…do you play chess? There’s an opening in chess exactly called the “evan’s gambit”

Sacrifice of the Queen’s bishop pawn. Yup.

But anyone who thinks SF is a chess game, is half mistakened.

Punishing stuff like blocked shoryuken - That’s Chess. As you have complete information.

But the mix-ups and guessing games - That’s Poker.

At the highest level of this game - It’s mostly Poker. You can’t play scared and you have to be willing to go ALL IN, if that’s what it takes.

I guess I need to go into the lab and see if I should just stop pressing buttons after lp hand.

You’re -2, so you should definitely not be pressing buttons. After LP GH, you should either EX SPD (beats normals) or block and be ready to throw tech (because normal throw beats EX SPD).

I wouldn’t make a habit of doing ex.spd after jab gh’s. You’re gonna get blown up for doing that against good players.

Well, you have to feel them out. Some people I play will throw almost every time after LP GH. Some will almost always press buttons, especially if they have a 3f normal. If they’re the type that likes pressing buttons, EX SPD will keep them honest and make them throw, which is what you want since it’s a free tech and you won’t have to deal with pressure after.

Playing online has trained me to almost never do anything now cause 99% of the retards always do something on their wakeup. I’m always expecting a dp, ultra, or something dumb like wakeup tatsu or something. They never fail to surprise me on how terrible they are. Then when I play a decent player it’s funny cause I’ll hit a jab gh and then we both do nothing and stare at each other.

Wow lp hand after hit confirming a lp hand combo if they neutral, back jump or even backdash is great. I’m going to have to start employing this.

Definitely. ONE of the superior options after LPGH. The other one being AS or EX AS. On their own, they are unsafe, but they compliment each other well. Covering the other’s weakness.

If they neutral, you get another grab or even U1
If they back jump, your safe from their jumping attack* … with the threat of LP SPD on their landing but you may have to block/PPP their attack
*This I have to test, they might be able to commit to an instant jump back attack

Are there any balance changes in the console release version?

I didn’t download any patch this morning so I don’t think there could be any changes. Not yet anyway.

Okay guys, I didn’t wanna make a new thread but I’m hearing Giefs getting nerfed in this next patch? Something about gh having shorter range and all this other nonsense. Not sure if all this is true or just bs but is this happening yet again? Gief getting nerfed for no reason as usual?

Apparently we’re getting LP GH’s travelling distance nerfed, but, and I need confirmation of this, it looks like EX GH forces standing, which means we’re getting red focus combos all over the place now. I’d take the trade tbh.

it looks like it will have less distance and ex will cause a standing state…there is something else about the lp green hand that i dont understand it says Increased hit back does it mean more hit stun? or made it more negative on block?

-Light green hand travel distance reduced, more pushback on hit
-EX green hand forces stand on hit

Here’s my attempt at silver linings:

  1. I kind’ve feel like if LPGH hit box is closer, it’ll make using it to swat fireballs easier. (as in, we’ll have more time to process that a fireball has been thrown and react to it). Currently I feel like swatting fireballs online you gotta be psychic. If you SEE the fireball, it’s already too late to swat it.
  2. Also, if someone is dancing in and out of LPGH range, they’ll just be “that” much closer.

im actually hoping for the fireball thing i will take that nerf for that
