Let Me Know When the Fight Starts!: The MvC3 X-23 Video Thread

Her reset game is so advanced and effective that killing the first char with a single reset almost always guarantees me 3 bars for the next char. I’ve developed so many resets with my team that I’ve lost count. Still working on being able to reset on every hit of a combo though.

And maybe execution is a barrier for some if not most players, but in this regard laura is much like Viper was in SSFIV. The character is sort of effective when played basically but she only begins to shine after you put some time into her and learned her advanced stuff.

In all honesty, the times I’ve seen another X-23 do something even remotely close to clever can be counted on one hand, and even then I don’t think I’d be using more than 3 fingers. I honestly don’t know if I’m missing something that everyone sees except me, or that everyone else is missing something that only I see.

I played Moonless the other day, and he is the only X that I’ve seen really develop to greater heights. I know there are players out there that may be more effective with her, but that is more to them being better fighting game players than them having better X-23’s.

edit. X-23’s spot on a team is only as relevant as your other point char. She goes equally fine in 1st or in 2nd. Just a matter of whether you think you can earn the bars easier with X or with your other point char(s).

This describes me perfectly I’d say. On hand, I have about 1 or 2 resets I use for X23 but others have probably about 5 or 6. I know I can be good with the character, but I dunno I’ve seen stuff in other videos (particularly yours) and it makes me want to just cry in corner lol. I remember checking out some random YT vid with Marlinpie’s viper and somebody was like “well jeez I thought I had a good viper, but GODDAMN!”

Ryuga mentioned the people who seem to understand X23 to greater lengths on this board, and I agree with him for the most part.

Actually had a bunch of really good matches at our fight night but unfortunately, no match vids this week. >.> I’ve started running X23/Frank/Felix to try to make sure I get my XF 3 with felicia and I feel like my Frank is doing much better but I still don’t have any super reliable ways to level him up.
With X-23’s back to the corner Rage Trigger > Cart Super will let Frank snap or relaunch after the super but I haven’t found a way to replicate that in an actual combo.
I keep saying this, but I need to lab up Vergil since I think he will be a better fit synergy-wise but I’m so addicted to that cart assist it’s hard to make myself do it… But people that were consistently beating me 2 weeks ago I was going 40/60 or 50/50 in matches so I def. feel like I’ve leveled up a bit.
It is almost stupid how effective using the MF+cart against wakup in the corner is. Cart’s start-up is rediculous and it does a great job of masking x-23. Hopefully I’ll be able to show some more matches soon. Also, The “Penultimate X-23 Thread” is about 50% done with the prelim. so anyone that’s interested in contributing go stake your claim in the thread. There’s already a toooon of empty space we’re gonna have to fill up and I don’t even have all the groundwork laid.

Some (in my opinion) really really sexy tournament play with X-23. Amazing rushdown, MFC combos, dirt nap combos. Really motivating too :3

Yeah I was gonna link to him. Very interesting use of Laura with hidden missiles. I don’t think she does a great job protecting the assist but against the people he was playing against he was getting it to work. Did a good job playing around resets and building meter for the dirt nap. He missed some situations where he could have activated XF to kill a character and dirt nap the next but interesting foundation for sure.

Recent tourney. Bye round 1, won rounds 2 and 3. Lost winners finals. Won the reset in Grnad, then he tried some secondary teams after we agreed to split. Enjoy.

Gratz on the wins…why go for the split pot if you were able to win tho?

It’s grand. I reset it, meaning I beat everyone. I had nothing to prove, and wanted some guaranteed money.

Random vids I uploaded today. Nothing mindblowing, but there’s some new level up tech for X-23 and Frank. I also noticed today that when she’s invisible during Silent Kill, her :s: actually throws out her :l: attack. I didn’t know that before, so I uploaded a little vid. proof for that. Last one is a rundown of my corner mixups with X-23. I’ve been making a point of using them and they’ve been working REALLY well for me lately. Your opponent really only has time to call a fast/invincible assist during their tech and that doesnt’ even always work or they can try to throw out an invincible super on wake-up which usually doesn’t work to well anyways. Nothing mind-blowing, just sharing tech I’ve been working. Let me know what you think. Also, I have annotations on most of them if you want better explanations.

Good to see you leveling up X-23 and Frank synergy. LEVEL UP.

Hard knockdown mix ups are easily the best type of mix ups in the game so keep up the work with that also. Aerial mix ups can just be teched and mashed out of unless you have a gdlk air throw OS.

Good catch by Wandles. on the Neutral/Back techs mixups you can get thrown out of them so you’ll want to toss in the occasional MF > TA to keep them honest.

I’m on my phone so I can’t really link to stuff atm. But I do have some vids if you’re willing to look up the account EGSRIT on youtube any vid that has ‘goggles’ in the title is me. If any one could link them here I would be appreciative. The earlier round of the tourney mostly showcase my joe tho.

Also, I’ve got a ~45 minute mirror match set between Wandles and me on the way. He’s playing Viper(Seismo)/X-23(CS)/Iron Man(RB) and I’m on my X-23(CS)/Frank W(Cart)/Felicia(Sand Splash). Pretty good set, IMO. Wasn’t terribly one-sided and he’s got some really nice tech. Viper’s Focus Attack with repulsor blast is pretty much a meterless dirt nap for the semi-guaranteed damage it does. He’s my argument for running X-23 second if that’s how you like playing it. I’m getting better with my cart shenanigans and It’s pretty easy to get a Frank level’d up if you don’t mind spending some meter. I’m still getting the hang of doing assist-less dirt naps in match…for whatever reason my fingers forget how to do a TK DP at the very last second…and If you’re on the fence about Felicia there’s a few dark Felix comebacks. She has the same flavor as X-23 without the dependency on assists which is nice for anchoring. I don’t have any special for my recording setup so it’s hand-cam looking at an ASUS, it seems like it be decent enough for it’s purpose tho.

Edit: Wandles consistently places top 5 or higher in SE tourneys so I get beat down a fair amount, but that’s to be expected. I have a few good wins throughout, though.

hey guys I don’t post on this thread but I made a video that covers basic ground game and specific uses for X23.

enjoy

Cool vid. I’m sure some of the new X-23 players will get a lot from it. Do you mind if I include it in the all-in-one thread?

sure go for it

man i haven’t been to srk in a while but i thought i’d post this here!

i’ve been working on a combo video for my team too, if anyone cares

Great vid Tatsu! :3
Im running Ami, presume it works just as well or even better than Sent, right?
Gotta try that sometime, only complaint about the vid is that the Ankle Slice stuff is (as you said) kind of pointless, so you should’ve just showed the lunge immediately imo. not a big deal tho

i’m not entirely sure about this, but i believe for ammy you might have to call the assist after the OTG (drones is so slow that i actually have to call sentinel before the OTG). try it out and let me know how it goes

and i dunno, even though the ankle slice followup is the most unreliable part of the option select, i still think it’s pretty crucial to the mixup because it scares people from holding up after rolling forward

sometimes i like to take the risk and go for ankle slice -> super without actually knowing whether or not it’s going to hit. because by that point i already have at least 2 meters from the bnb and can dhc into deadpool regardless for good chip

the OS is decent, I’ve been using it since Vanilla in combination with Wesker for an unblockable/command throw OS. It is only mildly useful though. If an opponent guesses right on the command throw (or just holds ub) Laura dies. Ankle slicer xx Super without a specific chip DHC setup like yours just seems like a big waste of resources for a guess especially when X-23 has a lot of tools available to her to continue pressure on oki.

I will go for it when I’m fairly certain they will tech into the unblockable and have the command throw as a nice plan B if I guess wrong.

The OS works in certain pressure strings as well or in ambiguous situations where a tech roll is forced off a poke.
