Let Me Know When the Fight Starts!: The MvC3 X-23 Video Thread

what pad are you on? I don’t play on the sixaxis, and I could do it on the Saturn USB (maybe because the buttons are closer to each other and with some remapping)

Dualshock for me.

Thinking about what’s actually going on in the game, you might be able to do it by assigning one button as 1-button dash (M+H, for instance), and hitting one of those attack buttons right before. The “correct” term is kara-dash, because you’re cancelling a normal into a dash repeatedly. Plinking is just one way to do it.

If I played with a DS3 or something, I would assign (M) to R2 and (M+H) to R1. The kara dash input would then just be R2~R1. The advantage of doing this is you don’t have to have both buttons pressed down at the same time. Try it! Kara-dashing is really useful for other characters too (like Ammy, or any flight+airdash character).

@DJ. I was in the lab a few days back and it looks like you can only cancel the first hits of M or H air CS so it works if you TK a CS from the ground so I don’t think it’ll apply to the alpha counter. T.T But you can def. cancel a TK M or H CS > TA(L) after any of the hits but I haven’t found any practical reason to use that instead of L CS from the ground so meh…

A dude said that X23 wasn’t able to reach 1mil damage by herself so i proved him wrong.

she still cant join the “i can kill Thor by myself” club though :frowning:

those are still pretty impressive.

if I ever get hit by the first combo on that video I will quit this game forever lol.

Luckily there’s no reason to need to kill Thor in one combo yet.

yeah but i wanted her to get on this video :frowning:

and i apologize for the quality but i dont do videos but i felt compelled to prove this guy wrong and annotations for the combo felt lackluster compared to doing a video.

That first combo is amazing. Invisible combos are the swaggiest thing in MvC3.

Here’s some x-23 play from the 256 courtesy of BDPWalmart. First 2 matches are my scrubby ass self (x23/felix/frank) vs Reggie’s frustrating as hell spencer and Luke’s lazy ass foot dive Doom (it’s retarded how brainless you can play him and still be effective)… Last one is Wandles’ (hulk/x23/iron man) ?winners finals maybe? tourney match vs. Nope .

After watching this I might go back and try my X-23/felix/frank team again. I felt like it was my frank being the weak link. Half the time I got a combo they would die before the end of it or I’d scrub it up and drop the combo. I def. need to get more consistent comboing off the Down+H. Watching this though I think it was really my crappy Felix dropping the ball hard with dropped combos and missing almost every followup off the throws. My Felicia has def. leveled up a bit since then, though. I def. wasn’t utilizing my assists enough and my defense was a bit shoddy in places. But overall I was pleased with my X-23 except for dropping every single happy birthday (UGHHHH) and needing to get rid of some of those unsafe habits I have. Every time I’m in the lab I practice my MFC strings, but as soon as I get into a real match it just never actually gets used >.>

Thanks for posting some recent footage! Only watched the first one so far and sadly your Laura died really quickly most of the time. Will watch the other 2 when I have time, hope i can actually learn some stuff from them :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah…it’s annoying as fuck making one bad poke and then losing x23 because of it (especially against reggie…nova spencer TOD is so frustrating)… I have a really bad habit of getting overly aggressive during matches and the felicia and frank were only on my team for maybe a week at that point. I would def. recommend watching the wandles vid. He’s one of the top north alabama players tho I don’t know if theres a ton of x23 action in that specific vid since he’s so effective with his hulk. If anything, there are plenty of mistakes to learn from and criticism is very welcome. Lol.

My current teams have become x/felix/doom (this is what I use for serious matches atm. Order will fluctuate if I feel like I need dirt nap to kill off an anchor since felicia batteries really well.) and skrull/frank/x (skrull is a beast, can level up frank to 5 off any combo for 2 meters and run a really strong reset game for meter building. Tenderizer can relaunch, lockdown for hi/lows and mid match/incoming dirt naps. Shopping cart is one of the best assists for left/right/command throw games IMO and can force a low air tech after combos to give x23 a stronger reset game.)

Few things though. I don’t think Spencer’s zipline’s safe assistless. I’d either go for an airthrow, or go for an AA to be on the safe side, something like Crescent Scythe and convert it into a strong combo.

If you block footdive and Doom doesn’t dash cancel it(can’t remember which ones he can and can’t cancel), that should be a free punish I believe. Can someone correct on this if possible? Can’t remember.

Yeah, his dash cancelling is height specific but he can dash cancel off both f+H and S. It’s something like shoulder height so on the full screen footdive nonsense you can probably dash backwards to make it where he hits too low if he’s not at SJ height. Just remember he can still cancel into hyper. It’s somewhat vague so if you’re not careful you’re eating a brainless S footdive followup or dash df c.L or against people that actually bother to learn doom, dash forward MM double overhead fake into low…he is too good for what you have to do with him. I do not recommend learning any habits from Luke’s doom as it is the most scrubtastic/brainless possible way to play him and it’s almost inexcusable that I lose to it…the main issue with there is freakin’ vajra. If you mess up the punish you eat vajra or a random footdive into an easy 900k…that’s marvel…

Spencer’s zipline is completely vulnerable when he’s trying to be spider-man so I should def. have been trying to snatch him out of that and I’m trying to make a point of leveling up my air throw game as a whole so hopefully the next recordings I have are better.

Basically tried to max out the video recording on this one. So I guess I can get about 45 minutes in before I have to do another vid. 22 matches against my bro’s team with my new Iron Man assist. Still working on Iron Man himself and possibly doing some things where I end up using Dante as anchor since Jam Session assist seems really good for Iron Man. I don’t think Iron Man anchor is that bad at all especially considering he has multiple long ranged horizontal moves that are good against the lame out anchors.

That’s what I love about this game haha, you get 15 years to kill someone off a random sloppy attack like Doom’s j.S. But thanks for posting your vids, wanna see some more! Always good to see people posting their vids, especially since there aren’t that many X-23 players about. I wish I could post some match vids, but I simply don’t have the proper recording equipment(I record stuff with a digital camera lol, plus there’s no place to put it in front of the telly.

I’m at 37:29 so far and holy shit, these matches are too much haha. You’ve gotta post some more matches with your brother.

Yeah I got a pretty good viewer count for just a day. I’ll put up one every couple weeks I guess.

Thanks DevilJin for the video! It’s hard to find good X-23 matches, so seeing yours helped me learn a lot. It helped me realize I should use more of her down talons and how to approach better.

finally some matches from me, and I still consider myself the weakest X23 player on the board. My problem is that I-do-not-block-ANYTHING lol. Plus, nobody at the college plays fighting games–so I’m stuck doing shitty online matches where playing X23 is very difficult. I dropped my feints, and I don’t use any of X23 pokes particularly well. It got to the point where I just did simple bnbs that I knew I could do blindfolded. Whelp whatever hahhaha.

Hey guys I posted up this video in the team building thread but I was hoping I could get a little more feedback on it. X-23 paired with Spencer’s slant grapple assist can turn any of x-23’s ground loops into a reset situation. The situation is even scarier than vanilla wesker’s reset in the corner because it can be done anywhere on screen, you have more options to deal with all at the same time, and the x-23 player has less chances to fuck up. You can’t mash out of it because x-23 can hit on the first frame of recovery with the right timing(and the timing is pretty lenient) and any of the other options you do have can be beaten by x-23’s options. Even if you do block correctly, x-23 can mfc her normal to keep an advantage and start pressuring right away(getting the berserker slash buff on her m mirage feint makes this even more unfair). You’re forced to stand in place and hope that you guess right because for most characters, one reset leads to death. If for some reason one reset won’t finish them off, every single option x-23 chooses leads directly into another reset because spencer’s assist will be ready to go by the end of the next loop. What makes the situation even worse for the person being grappled is that with a single reset, x-23 will build enough meter for her level 3 while pushing them into the corner. Any reset can lead to the corner using the bnb i show in the video on wolverine, but may have to be modified depending on the starter(it’ll get to the corner no matter what though). Long story short, x-23 has the ability to kill 2 characters for 1 wrong guess while still retaining a few seconds of x factor to mix up the last incoming character. If someone could find a problem with this reset that would be great because right now this is looking pretty broken to me. If you want any notations or other info I’d be happy to give it.
