Let Me Know When the Fight Starts!: The MvC3 X-23 Video Thread

Uploaded some of my matches from SRKLive last night. Got blown up in a lot of matches but it was still fun. A couple things I want to note though, I haven’t mastered X-23’s Ultimate combos yet so I just do a lot of basic Vanilla stuff; and I just recently picked up Ammy so there’s a lot of HHHHHH spam.

I’m not that good with the team yet, so I was hoping someone could check these out and give some feedback. I appreciate any criticisms and advice.

Despite this, you’re already pretty good with RR, it’s kinda ironic. My RR sucks ass but I’m comfortable with the new X-23 combos.

Anyway, the double shot assist is definitely great, I’d call it all the time I’m not in their faces (since RR does the assist on the same place as the point character, not behind, it’s kinda risky), especially to cover Talon Attacks or her down+H. It also leads for some great mixup opportunities as it’s kind of like a mini Sent drones. However, having him in second kind of kills X-23’s damage when it comes to DHC. Sure, once you activate Mad Hopper, you get a free mixup opportunity, but X-23 works a lot better when she has a powerful DHC backing her up. Maybe you should go for WXP instead of Rage Trigger? The team also lacks a bit of vertical space control when X-23 is out, but that isn’t needed with solid playing.
And you played pretty well. You tended to use stuff I don’t like to rely on anymore (like that standing L of hers that got me killed so many times) but they worked, so no complaints there. In that regard, I liked it how you essentially used every single tool X-23 has.
When you got blocked, you sometimes went straight into MF H. That’s fine, it’s pretty safe although a bit of a commitment, but it’s also nice to sometimes do a MFC instead and then go for something more dangerous for the opponent (although it’s pretty dangerous for Laura as well). You also used some swag MFC combos and that was pretty awesome. Good stuff.

As for defence, it’s a shame you get hit so many times, but honestly, the same stuff happens to me. X-23 pretty much has to keep moving forward a bit recklessly to keep up her tempo so I end up getting hit by random buttons on those small moments I’m transitioning from holding forward to back. That and getting hit by giant fucking hitboxes like Dante’s and Wolverine’s. As for the Hulk matchups, you were definitely somewhat careful around him, but standing H isn’t the only danger, you also have to stay calm depending on what they throw out after. It might be an S or a Gamma Charge or something, but it all means you have to keep blocking even after the standing H.

Thanks for all the feedback. I really like the double shot assist too, at first I was just using log trap but I was finding it’s not as amazing as I initially though. I’ll try to call it more often, I just get so worried about the happy birthday. I’d like to do WXP combos, but they’ve been a bit inconsistent. I’ll do OTG -> Double Shot -> WXP and sometimes they just fall too fast for it to connect. I’m starting to think it’s just a matter of HSD kicking in. I’ll definitely head to the lab to try to find out. The standing L thing is an old habit, I keep telling myself I have to go more towards standing mh MFCs but it’s been hard to work those into real matches. I’ve practiced MFCs a ton but the standing H MFC is the only one I can seem to do on the fly.

My defense in Marvel is kinda bad. I know with a team as squishy as mine that’s something I really need to work on. It’s just such a hard thing to figure out how to practice. I guess it’s just a matter of playing more? And yeah, Hulk blew me up. I played one other match against that guy that didn’t get recorded since the stream froze beforehand, but he just raped me. Hulk’s not a character I play too often and pressing buttons against him terrifies me.

Seems like once X-23 gets the 3 it’s the same bad news for everybody. Not sure why Unknown didn’t hard drive out of some of those dirt nap setups.

Lol his zero is free to x-23. We were just trolling with zero dittos cause we use that as a secondary team.

He probably didn’t x-factor harddrive out of my dirtnap set-up because he wanted to save x-factor for wesker. Wesker is like vanilla phoenix tier now without his glasses.

People play a lot differently in ultimate. I was surprised he didn’t harddrive out of the corner to avoid some of my mix-ups. I guess he was afraid of wasting meter as its a lot harder to gain it. I noticed that and people go for airthrows a LOT less now.

Yeah I remember Unknown bringing up how he thought air XF would shut down the dirt nap stuff. Luckily jam session still blows through the air XF they get hit and lose a character + burn XF early.

I still think XF2 Wesker + assist is scarier than XF3 Wesker. There’s going to be a lot of characters in the game that will be good at laming out to the top of the screen and nullifying Wesker running around like an idiot without an assist so definitely not as good as Vanilla Phoenix unless you’re a character that’s forced to come down and fight him at some point.

Recorded this yesterday, started tinkering with how many times you can loop her Crescent Scythe / Talon Attack in the corner, and then I tried to maximize damage. Has anyone else experimented with DP/TA loops as part of BnB’s? Trying my best to find something more efficient outside of the corner.

790 without an assist? If you can get similar damage without the L talon attack at the start I’m in.

So much for this game being more reset based. LOL.

If you go naked DP without the Talon Attack, you can get about 750k. Neck slicker fully charged is about 760k (If you add in a L Talon Attack after the hit confirm), and you can get about 680k with the standard cr.m, st.c, Mirage C, BC xx Crescent Scythe to start the 3 loops, but the timing has to be delayed a lot on the first Talon Attack to make sure they recover as close to the ground as possible.

Gonna try and get more ideas on the table and posted tomorrow, if my cold allows me. :frowning:

Just leaving this here. My semi-finals match at a recent tourney. This is what my team looks like when it works.

Edit. The guy gets really mind fucked into making bad decisions as the games progress but just take my word for it that he really is skilled. I just picked this match to show you guys how my team looks when stuff goes right.

Good to see some of the mix ups I remember people talking about in that video off the M mirage feint. Left/right city.

Personally, I couldn’t go, but here from Portugal, Obake was to attend until he ultimately decided not to. Kind of wish he went there just to see what a real X-23 player looks like. He gets annoyed enough already with mine.

Haha yeah I went to FFM Rumble =). Looking back on the matches I realise just how sloppy that shit was. Tournament nerves just wrecked the hell out of me man, couple of major chokes and stuff, execution errors here and there. Some stuff really cost me too.

I need to level up badly, though I am glad to have won, despite of the above.

I’m totally borrowing/stealing your mid-combo reset (that shit is too good) and as much as I’ve been fighting it…I have gotta get a strong OTG assist back in my team. Anybody have thoughts on non-Wesker otg assist synergy?

I’ve been doing well with Ghost Rider Heartless Spire, but it begs the question - why not Wesker, lol :slight_smile:

Only personal preference, I get kinda bored playing as wesker and I’ve never been a huge fan of teleport rushdown. Felicia’s Sand Splash fills the assist slot well (as far as combo extension) in ultimate but having a team of glass cannons is a little rough.

I also found some tech with lockdown assists that I’ll try to put a crappy vid up of in a bit. If you call your lockdown assist + S > fast M > 2H > Talon Attack L you can drop them back into the assist with enough to time to relaunch or use that as a reset point since most of the lockdowns would cause them to air tech. I’ve only messed around with Firebrands Hell Fire (or whatever it’s called) assist but it seems like it should work with cold star or dark hole style assists too. Hitstun can kick it out if you’ve done an extended ground combo but shortish MF loop of choice > launch / relaunch combo does about 670k with rage trigger.

EDIT: Also, funny question coming from the guy playing Ghost Rider. :stuck_out_tongue:
