Let Me Know When the Fight Starts!: The MvC3 X-23 Video Thread

I’d be interested, but if you’re not comfortable, it’s cool.

You might as well get exposed so you can see what you can improve on. Your mistakes are how you get better so we’ll probably see things that you didn’t notice that can buff your game up. Fighting games are all about embarrassing yourself until you learn to embarrass other people. You gotta get opened up to open other people up.

Besides it’s not like we have a bunch of Nagoya Street Battle of Uryo playing X-23 to watch from. We gotta level up this character ourselves basically so any video is good video.

I’m kinda in that dilemma as well. I mean, I do pretty well in tournaments, but I choke really damn hard (as everyone else does in the tournaments I go to). It’d be like showing me play at only 30% of what I can do. There’s really not much to learn from them.

controlling your nerves in tournaments is one of the major things you need to improve if you’re a competitive player. If you can do your combos blindfolded at home doesnt mean shit if you cant land anything in a tournament.

Sadly this is something that i also still struggle with from time to time, I’m only confident if the game is still new it seems…

here you guys go…match starts at 1:10

Shaky-Cam Disclaimer
reason why its shaky-cam…me and my friends made up a group called FU| Free Unit…its just a gaming community I’ve made at my college and I’ve gotten alot of people interested in the competitive aspect of fighting games because everytime a new fighting game comes out I’m always that person no one can beat its not something I take pride in because I dont consider myself THAT good but its whatever…so we plan on doing alot of episodes of us playing and learning from each other as well as silly gaming stuff we get into…

Sidenotes:
-I also have some direct video capture footage of me playing a friend but the casual session was VERY long and I need to cut it into parts so I will do that ASAP and post it…

 • we will be hosting a UMvC3 tournament Nov. 18th and we will get alot of footage from that and I will post character specific footage where needed

THANKS guys for the encouragement

It’s really no use to just keep going for the H MFC H MFC etc. combos if you can hitconfirm into something better. Her regular BnB does more damage and is easier to land. I understand doing a few Hs in some moments where you don’t know it’s going to hit, but when you can see it, you should really switch to something easier. By the way, I’m sure you know this, but you can link a standing M (in the beggining of combos) or a standing L after H canceled into L Mirage Feint. If you can react to those times you miss the MFC, you can keep the combo going.
Also, you really shouldn’t do Talon Attacks without assists covering you. I’m sure it must be kinda hard with Tatsu assist, but if the opponent can space you right, you’ll be whiffing those TAs and you will get punished.
Speaking of Tatsu assist, where was it? You should really abuse it more for pressure and mixups. You can just jab, call the assist at the same time and then M MF in their face for a really tricky mixup.
Anyway, you did some pretty good resets there and you dominated the Chris matchup (man, X-23 is such a bully against him) as well as the Spencer matchup. You did well in punishing reckless ziplines.

yea man I know alot about her which is why I said I played really scrubby, but I was really more so trying to get a feel for using her MFC in a combo, Im usually used to doing her extended jump talon dive loops which actually deal more damage, i think it was a combination of not playing the game in a while as well as trying to style lol…and yea tatsu assist lol im JUST now picking up Akuma so im not really sure when to call him, but we’ll be playing again this week and I’ll play more serious this time …and I’ve been working on a MFC Tiger Knee L or M Talon Dive block string tactic as well as MFC into her command grab…its good to keep pressure but hard to actually apply in a real match because she moves so fast…but meh practice makes perfect

You were doing alright with the s.H MFC’s it’s just due to hit stun deterioration you’ll have to learn to hit confirm 2 s.H’s and then just H mirage feint cancel the 3rd H and go into combo. No need to do more than that really unless they’re in the corner or something. Basically just hit 3 H’s and then go into H feint and then launch them. With some characters you may have to wait a bit before s.M launching them so they don’t pop up too high after the launch.

Gonna be playing vs. Meep’s X-23/Dante/Akuma in a FT5 single elimination tournament at Xanadu tonight. DjHuoshen will be back also playing against FourthStar (who was rather salty after losing money match to DjHuo). I’m not really too confident in Dante first vs. X-23 with XF1 level 3 setups but we’ll see how it goes.

Starts at 8PM EST.

If you miss it you should be able to find the replay soon.

Maximilian’s breakdown of X-23’s Ultimate changes is up here - http://youtu.be/2Pl7Qry1vuM?t=4m21s

Nothing we didn’t know, but it’s nice to see them in action.

Confirmation of air L CS into L TA… Early combo or corner only?

Introducing the Ash Loop! (Really sorry if someone else discovered this prior to this, but I haven’t seen it yet and I’m being a nerd and naming it.) Essentially it’s X-23s version of Doom’s Buktooth loop.

Seeing how little x-23 seems to have changed in UMvC I’m pretty sure this will still be relevant (hopefully) in 10 days. Someone in the upcoming changes forum was talking about using air XFC after Rage Trigger then causing a hard knockdown so you can otg and follow up with another one and this should allow that to happen as well.

If immediately after a S launcher you use sj.M>D+H>land>s.M (1 hit) then you have a choice of either going into s.H>Rage Trigger or you can relaunch 2 more times with another S launcher. The opponent is left in launcher/juggle state and air S or L Talons will lead to hard knockdown. This seems to work on full cast, I’ve only personally tried it on Zero / IM / Hulk and it’s possible both corner and midscreen. Seems to be best after a MF mixup. ATM, it seem the opponent has to be on the ground for the loop to be possible so you can’t use a Heavy unless you want to launch into the full air combo.

I think in ultimate it’s gonna be worth checking out S>sj.M>D+H xx M Talon > M > M > land > j.m > j.m > etc. as it allows you to use the air portion of her hitstun and combo more than just her normal air series but I haven’t found a way to combo into it after the ground loops that still leaves you close enough to the ground to follow up. I have an example of this at the very end of the video.

Sorry for being so wordy, hopefully that plus this lousy phone video made a little sense. Vid’s still uploading, so I’ll edit it up in a bit.

Did I miss something or did X-23 get a hitstun nerf? Why aren’t the BNB loops working in this video? http://youtu.be/m2w-CycAu6Y?t=42s

And that Ash Loop might be the coolest damn thing I’ve seen anyone do with X-23. Nice job.**

Everybody got an HSD nerf across the board basically.

@Class Real: Thx man.

I’ve been messing around with it a bit more. You can do H mirage feint > j.M > j.S and keep them low enough that that you can do one or 2 loops. Something else I’ve found is using S launch > fast j.m > d+H > M Talon, it’s possible to delay the M talon so that it hits close enough to the ground that you can follow up without jumping. I haven’t found anything amazing damage wise, I think the highest I’ve managed is something like 450k meterless.
Also, I haven’t messed around with TACs much, but I think you could TAC x23 in and go directly into the d+H and do a few reps of the loop.
This is from memory, so it might not be 100% right but I’m pretty sure this is the most damaging I’ve managed so far.

s.M > s.H xx H MF > j. M > j.S > s.M(1 hit) xx s.S > j.M > d+H > s.M(1 hit) xx s.S > j.M > d+H > M Talon (as close to ground as possible) > j.M > j.M(before you land after the M Talon) > s.M (1 hit) xx s.H > s.S > normal air combo / finisher.

The only thing I’m not 100% on is whether or not you can do 2 reps of the loop and still use the low M talon before they tech out. I’m at work, so don’t blast me if I’m off. I’ll see about doing a quick vid and posting just for the hell of it and editing the correct combo if I made a mistake. This is totally one of those match impractical deals (the low M Talon m>m followup is reallllly tight) but I’m a fan of style every now and then. I’m def gonna lab it up on Tuesday (super hype) and I’ll see what I can work out with the CS cancelling in there and post any worthwhile findings.

Edit: Just watch that vid Class Real posted…I would have liked to see him try more than just the talon loops and I’m gonna be sad if her new BnB is only 370k…

You guys needa understand x-23 is a reset character. If you really want raw damage go play dante or iron fist.

Iron Fist’s damage is pretty damn raw. Dante will most likely have to be played more reset based also now that his combos are all funky and he can’t TOD off every swing as easily.

Some new X-23 combos using Ultimate tech

3:15. Her old BnB still works.

Personally, I play my X-23 hard reset / mixup. That doesn’t mean I want to have to run 4 resets when I can run 2 by doing a better combo. I don’t think expecting more than 370k on a meterless BnB is much to ask. Props to Shadowloo for the new tech video, looking forward to the 700k+ per touch. I get sad when I see people playing X-23 at big tourneys doing magic series because they have the reset-only mentality. Have some decency and treat our lady right…

Amen. It also drives me crazy to see every tournament X-23 player just do Magic Series -> OTG assist -> WXP -> DHC Glitch. At least those days are almost over.
