Deviljin, thanks for reminding me that I should use wall jump more often. Also loved the way Zero died everytime he got touched. Get rid of the problem before it gets rid of you LOL.

Yeah wall jump is hella good because of the speed and distance it allows you travel safely. It forces the camera towards the opponent while still allowing you to block so Magneto spamming on disruptah gets pushed into the corner if he keeps running away while shooting. Good for setting up the opponent in the corner after you jump out of it also.

Here’s some matches of another local X23/Dante/Akuma player that got 2nd at the weekly tournament. He goes by Meep.

Very reset and meter build driven X23 and tries to go for the 3 to 4 meter build to snap in a character and dirt nap them down. I got mind fucked by him because I had never played against another X23 other than my brother so I couldn’t think of things fast enough to do against the dives with my Dante. Next tournament I’m most likely just going to run jam session or acid rain to get hit boxes on the screen and calm her down or turn on devil trigger and get thunderbolts and vortexes on the stream. X23 hates cheap hit boxes so I’ll work to put more cheap boxes on the screen.

Im sure what threw you off the most was I play a different style x-23. Im more mix up oriented with left/right mix-ups and command grab set-ups.

Dante’s crystal covers a lot of space and puts you at frame advantage if they’re on the ground I think. I was playing x23 against a Dante and it was stopping me pretty good.

DevilJin do you play Dante-x23-Akuma? Just curious?

Yeah I’ve heard people hype up the crystal move as a zoning tool. I just get nervous to use any of Dante’s zoning tools because of the slow start up but the hit box is rather large to not take advantage of. I’ll figure it out.

I really didn’t get blown up by the mix ups so much as just I couldn’t find a good spot to whiff punish any L talon attacks with Dante. I just found it way too hard to land a clean hit on her which I’ve learned to do with a bit of consistency against Zero if I play lame enough. Guard cancelling is risky due to her being able to mix up talon dives and talon attacks in the air also. Pretty much anyone at the tournament except Steve seemed to have a hard time landing clean hits after the L talons which is not surprising. It’s something you have to see more than a few times to react to consistently.

I don’t use the Dante/X23/Akuma team myself. I think Akuma’s too boring and I prefer the zoning and offensive capabilities of Doom beam better. Tatsu is a better assist for her M mirage feint due to the lack of damage scaling and much easier hit confirm but I like Doom’s ability to clear up attacks and other assists and Doom’s play style generally fits me better.

^I used to think that akuma was garbage too, like no way to get in. But he’s actually a really good char, good damage, can zone, fast beam super. I watched vids of Chris G’s Ryu to try and play akuma better and I’ve changed my opinion of him. Doom’s good too though. I just thought it was interesting seeing other players with the same team, cuz there’s no one in my area playing my team. I saw vids of Meepzero and it’s cool seeing us having the same ideas, and using similar combos.

Akuma’s definitely far from garbage (I always thought he was really well rounded and there’s really nothing he doesn’t have except no way to close the gap quickly) it’s just a matter of he doesn’t fit my play style at all. Most of his offense is rather basic (at least for now) and he doesn’t really have anything technical or interesting in his movement or gameplan that keeps me interested. I just can’t play characters that I find no playable interest in, doesn’t work for me even if the character is technically better. The assist is nice but I prefer Doom’s beam for blowing up the zone. Akuma works great once you get in but you gotta get in first.

That’s just part of what makes the game interesting. Different ways to make something work.

Good stuff against Marlin. You were using assists a few times here and there with your M talon attack get ins which is good. I think you could have used the assists a bit more but as long as you don’t get air thrown as you’re moving with the talon attacks it works I guess. The L talon attacks really seemed to be messing with Marlin’s Viper and once you had the jam session assist in you pretty much had him in a corner after. I get scared to use L talon sometimes because of worrying about people trying to XF guard cancel it but I’ve noticed mixing in a talon dive first before doing the L talon throws off people’s timing to guard cancel it. You still got blown up a few times with trying to use M talon attacks to get out of corner situations. Just wall jump out because it moves you nearly the same distance forward faster and allows you to block and protect yourself. Once you commit to M talon you have to deal with that recovery where you can get air thrown or counter hit before you can block again.

Also when Viper charges up the focus attack the game allows you to cancel any of your normals into a throw to stop the focus from releasing. You can just go pressing normals at C.Viper during the focus and as long as you’re in throw range just mash on throw and you’ll throw her out of the focus. Even if you were doing an attack string you’ll just cancel into a throw and blow her up out of it. Throwing out assist backed command grabs can deter the use of it also.

Quotes brought up in the video that X-23 doesn’t have any invincible moves to get through a zone but of course we know now that both of her level ones are basically about as invincible as it gets. Rage Trigger’s invincibility starts on the very first frame you activate it (before the screen freeze) and has a total of 19 frames to get you through attacks or projectiles and moves pretty quickly. Weapon X Prime after 6 frames where you can be hit you’re basically invincible for 60 frames and you move the entire screen across long before those 60 frames are used up. I was thinking the main reason I haven’t used either of these supers to get in on people is because if they whiff or are blocked she is dead without XF cancel. Though then I realized with Dante behind X23 you can just make sure you at least build a second meter and then pretty much get a surefire way to get next to the opponent using either of her supers and DHCing into Devil Trigger so Dante basically gets in for free with a power and special move boost.

Good stuff felax, make me want to put the time into learning dante. I gotta remember to use H mirage feint into talon dive vs advance guarding.

Thanks man. Dante is a bit a work but he pays off if you want to run X-23. I personally think they fit best together. Now you have to be careful with the H Mirage feint after a ground series. If they advance than its not always a good choice to do M Talon unless you have an assist to cover you. Some tricks that you might want to try is after the H MF, Talon dive down, call out a multi hitting assist and charge her command grab (and let go after their guard stun is up) . I can do that set up with Dorm and Dante.

Good shit taking dat Xanadu local. I don’t know what DJ was thinking trying to hold on to XF against Dante and X23 + Akuma assist left right mix ups. Those are mix ups that you can only space yourself against, you can’t block them. Just kept getting blown up holding on to it when he could have at least got a match going. You definitely leveled up with Dante a good bit especially now that you’re working Akuma assist into him also. You should have used vortex in devil trigger (air f,d,df+S) to get out of that corner situation you were in where he just kept beating you up in the corner with super skrull. Shit is like having infinite hard drive for 10 seconds. Gets you out of everything.

^I like how you keep X-23 moving, though Sanford missed a lot of opportunities to punish lol. My favorite part was the punish with s.H @4:24.

Has anyone seen this combo before? I was playing a casual match against a Deadpool player when it was just X vs Deadpool. I did Silent Kill from full screen and while he’s cornered he does his gun hyper, but I super jump over it, land in front of him, do s.M, s.H into Derp Nap. I intended to do ankle slice but did a s.M and the M connected. After winning the match I went into training mode. Learned she can link s.M after Silent Kill only if she links it with s.H before hitting S. Unfortunately what I learned was the timing to pull off s.M is extremely strict and X sometimes needs to dash to pull it off, otherwise you just get one hit from the M which (I don’t think) won’t link into anything else. Fortunately, I tried something else that worked much better.

I haven’t tested this out on much of the cast, but I figure it should work on anyone. Characters with seemingly high hurtboxes like She-Hulk and Zero, after launching, you just use a j.H instead of going into a j.M, j.H. j.D+H (whatever variation of this you use), L talon dive.

EDIT: It doesn’t seem to work on Tron (which actually isn’t that surprising since she probably has the weirdest hurtbox for X’s combos.) Also I extended the combo a bit. Currently in the process of taking it out of my camera along with a bunch of other Marvel 3 shit.
