Learning to Kick @$$ (Literally)! - The Chun-Li Combo Thread

Alrighty, a surprisingly easy fraken-combo put together from stuff I’ve seen from Brian, Lud, and Ray Ray. It works anywhere on anyone, doesn’t use jump loops which I can never land in a match goddamn ever, is meter neutral and does 715k(ish).

(since it’s comprised mostly of special moves, I won’t use the button-icons)

M, H, Kikoanken, Kikoanken, Light Up-kicks, S, Heavy SBK, S j.H j.S, headstomp, Med Lightning Legs, j.S, EXSBK, Heavy Lightning Legs, Kikosho

Notes:
-The second Kikoanken into upkicks is a link, so there is a slight delay, but it’s still quite quick.
-To land the first SBK, just hold the stick in the down-forward position when you input the upkicks, you’ll be charged by the time you land the j.S
-Do the j.H to j.S immediately after launching to ensure you land on top of the opponent for the headstomp. And start holding down right after the j.S to charge for the EXSBX.
-The trickiest timing is the launch after the SBK. It’s a longer delay than you’d think.
-When doing the H LL on the ground after the EXSBK, you’ll want to cancel into super pretty quickly so they don’t pop out.
-There isn’t enough hitstun left for a level 3. I’m working on tweaking it so it can use either a level 1 or 3.

I never thought to link Light Upkicks after a 2nd Kikoanken. Good stuff!
Also you could land a level 3 by emitting the LL at the end. Or possibly substituting it for a cr.H.

EX-SBK and cr.H are Chun’s preferred enders because they have the highest minimum HSD values (similar to Dr. Strange’s impact palm, but to a lesser degree).

Thanks. I will try these things out. I tried to land the level 3 just after the ex-sbk, but they seem to hit the ground before the startup finishes. I’m working on it though. Cr.H is good advice, I forgot about it.

I don’t speak chun-li… can anyone explain this combo to me or just make a video cuz I can’t visualize it in my head… lol it’s like trying to read zero combos… im like “just say dive kick or lightning or uppercut guys -_-” keke

Ok, normally I wouldn’t do this because all I have is my phone to record a CRT tv (making for an extremely low quality video), but, just for you, I’ll upload a video.

Also: More notes:
-If you start the combo with an overhead of some kind, you won’t be able to do two kikoankens, they’ll recover at the top of the upkicks and you wont be able to continue. So replace the second kikoanken with a stand heavy or just go right into the upkicks, it’ll do less damage, but not that much less.
-Secondly, I figured out how to end with a level 3, but it only works in the corner (the combo travels about 3/4 screen, but still), and the timing is pretty tight, but it works. If you do a second headstomp to medium LL, then S to EXSBX, you’ll be able to catch them with the level 3 as they fall. The purpose of this is to get them higher and you lower, so it’ll work if they’re sitting on top of the EXSBK (as opposed to being hit in the center of their hurtbox like in the video), and you set off the hyper just as you land (you’ll want to buffer the input as you’re descending). It does about 915k, which is very nice for a solo combo for her. I would have tacked on another video for this, but it’s too long for the training mode recorder to reproduce and I can’t set the camera and perform the combo at the same time. If I figure something out, I’ll upload that too.

Omfg you’re the best =P so that does 700+ dmg? what about adding assists for more? or is this really new technology =P ( i’m a Jill main thinking about switching to Chun-Li )

Also guys I like to think of myself as a training mode nerd because I have no online experience and only 2 locals that I play with ( they’re pretty good tho ) and then I occasionally go to Dallas Tournaments and I seem to do well, anyway I have a capture card and I’m just waiting on a cable so since you guys already made video for me, I’ll start making videos for you guys n such and try to figure out what I can and help out =)

Depending on how long the lightning legs go, and how much you mash, it’s 715-725k. It’s specifically designed to be a solo, mid-screen combo; if you have assists at your disposal, there are better things to do. For instance skip ahead to the 1 minute mark on this video:

After the third kikoanken (seriously, is there something better to call this move?), you can actually continue the combo and not have to go straight to super. Pretty much any ender after that will take you into the the 750-800k range. The one I do (with Iron Fist instead of Akuma) its 780k midscreen and 825 in the corner. 1 dhc leads to a million damage from pretty much any hit chun lands on the ground. She definitely has options.

Yeah, with her new tools she now has many ways to increase the damage output of her combos.
My combo (using Ryu’s and Akuma’s assists) deals ~ 850k spending one meter.
I can DHC to Ryu and do some more damage, so I pretty much can ToD most of the cast but those above 1.100

Yeah, it’s worth noting that I made that combo because it’s easy. It is far from the most damage she can do.

Brian you post team combo video? =)

I might. Right now Im focusing on a friend’s team combo video, but I might record that combo;
I use Ryu and Akuma, so I dont know how useful the combo can be for you.

Well I was thinking about stealing your team =P but half circles are really hard ( but i could get them down if i just practiced them forever ) … I donno I’m having team Identity crisis… T_T I love jill so much but she so weak

Jill is weak, so is Chun Li.
BUT, Chun Li can now combo after a throw, and that is a HUGE toll for this game.

You should check Jill/ Morrigan synergy. They work well together.
I’ll try to run Jill/ Hsien Ko/ Morrigan team, full of shenanigans and meter abusing tactics.

I’m thinking Chun Li - Vergil - ( BLANK ) because then I’ll be able to figure out a combo to go into spiral sword loop for TOD on characters + total style points from Chun Li then INTO vergil for more style =P gameplay will look like a combo video… I just need to figure out who that 3rd is, Brian you’re my favorite Chun Li… any suggestions?

If I could create a team to make my Chun Li a real threat, I’d pick an assist that could deal a big amount of damage by itself.
Did you watch Kurosu @ Final Round? I’ve been doing that tactic since Ultimate came out: I do the wall jump, then I do one or 2 Tenshoukyaku and then I call an assist.
My assist is Akuma’s Tatsu. If you use an assist that would be able to give you a free combo after the hit (like Log Trap, Arrow Kick and Iron Fist’s wallabouncing assist), that would be really good.

Chun Li is not that good at rushdown because she has no real crossup moves or anything that switch sides with the opponent.
The only thing she has and that is actually really good is an instant overhead. Actually she’s got 2 of them.
While she is not that good at rushdown, she is really good at running away, specially running to the skies.
If you manage to stay above your opponent and call an assist, you can also jump forward to switch sides with him, so it’s gonna be harder for him to know wich side to block. That’s when you call his assists.

But beware of moves that would hit your assist regardless of his side, like Hulk’s St.H.

And thanks for the “favorite Chun Li” =)

I haven’t really explored Vergil’s ability to combo off of tatsu but I don’t see it being a problem and if you think it’s really good for chun li trying to get in ( which i can see it in your gameplay ) then I may try that out, as far as bnb- what do you think is probably her most damaging while still being meter positive bnb that would allow me to DHC into vergil? maybe that combo in ur combo video where you juggled captain america like a rag doll?

I’ve been working on a few combos.
Max I got with one bar is 850 with 2 assists.
When I manage to record it in-battle, I’ll let you know.

With it do you know if you can DHC into spiral swords loop off it? and yes I’m very interested about the inputs so I can start goofing off and learning it because I don’t know any chun li combos… off topic but still curious… I think I may have found something broke as shit but I don’t know if it is or how to exploit it so I figured I’d ask the chun li pros… with my controller the way it is… I can jump all around ( like constantly holding up ) and I can also jump dash, jump dash, jump dash, like really fast rushdown i guess style… all the whole time flashing pink for the super spin thing =) is this broken, if so how to exploit =) I’ll make video if you guys want if you don’t understand what i’m saying

Also, I’m the worst at half circles -.- … I can’t figure them out for whatever reason, but anyway hopefully ur combo doesn’t have too many of those in it keke
