Learning to Kick @$$ (Literally)! - The Chun-Li Combo Thread

Combos and resets are always a good idea. But, with chun, I think setups and hitconfirms are the most important. She has more angles of attack than people think, and getting as much damage as possible out of each touch is very important. Right now, when I win with her, it’s death by 1000 cuts. I’d like to bring that down to 100 or so.

Been trying to find more damaging combos with chun

Good stuff man. Keep it up!

Nice, would be cool to see you rep her in tournament play at big 2 sometime!

Ok, so I have one more hurdle with chun-li to clear. Barring the very inefficient and comparatively low damage ground based jump loops, how does one do a full combo into super with Chun midscreen? She has some great relaunch combos that do some serious damage, but they only seem to work in the corner. When going into an air combo (even just a very quick H S) she knocks them down so far away from herself I can’t even dash over for an otg in time.

I am quite confused. When you do c.h, (jump cancel ) d.m, air dash j.h, land, st.m,st.h,c.h,…when you jump cancel and perform c.m my character flips and when i try to do another j.m,j.m,.jh,js, i never hit the ground before they do to do a c.h. Can someone explain to me how the rest of the combo works.

I struggle with that same combo. I normally just go for a j.l instead of the c.m makes it a much easier combo. But I play a lot online and the c.m dash is a bit hard to pull off.

In your guys’ opinion, is chun worth putting third for the assist? I say this because I really like playing her, but when it comes down to her, even with xfactor, I feel completely helpless without assists. Is she one of those anchors like sentinel who really isn’t made for abusing xfactor? I’d much rather use xf 1/2 with the first 2 characters if this is true. oops Wrong thread ._.

Keep her as your point character. Works a lot better.

one more thing. i just got a simple 804 k combo with chun with one assist and coner only. and one meter It’s for my team, so i gotta practice it more.
I aslo found a way to to this midscreen for 800k+. I’ll have the inputs later, but hopefully a video.

Not sure if posted yet. Sorry if I’m late… haven’t looked at this thread in ages.

Current Bnb I’m doing after today is:

(j. M, j.S), cr. M, st. H, Kikoanken, st. H, cr. H, air d+M, airdash, j. H, land, st. M, st. H, (delay) cr. H, (start charging down) air d+M xx M Legs, airdash, air d+M, j.Hxx H Legs, air EX SBK land, H Legs xx Kikosho

Does 691K to 710k depending on if you do the j. M, j.S at the start. Builds about 1 and 1/4 of a meter. Doing the Lvl 3 hyper at the end of the combo nets you about 906k, but DHC’ing to someone like Storm Hail or Dante Million Dollars instead will give you the same damage.

I modified my former bnb after messing around with instant air d+M, airdash, M Legs, air d+M, j.Hxx H Legs, air EX SBK land, H Legs xx Kikosho (around 460k). But I thought it wouldn’t work and HSD would mess it up.

Former Bnb was :

(j. M, j.S), cr. M, st. H, Kikoanken, st. H, cr. H, air d+M, airdash, j. H, land, st. M, st. H, (delay) cr. H, air d+M, j.M, j.M, j.H, J.S, land , st. M, cr. H xx H Legs, (cr. H, H Legs) xx Kikosho

It does about 650k, but it surprisingly feels more unstable as a combo than the 1st from HSD.
I really don’t understand what makes HSD work the way it does.

Do share!

^Hey I remember I saw your combo video a last summer. You’re the inspiration to the main Bnbs I incorporate (I didn’t get around to actually learning them until the start of UMVC3’s life, but I remembered there was a sick set of combos to pick up from O.G. MVC3). Thanks for those! It’s good to have decent damage from ground combos.

Did you ever post a combo vid or transcript corresponding to this post? It’s from a little while ago:

You don’t need the transcript, because that combo is an infinite based on your opponent holding forward for the whole time!

As a Frank mainer, I had an idea. I realized the potential of using Chun’s infinite to give a meter-positive level up, but because I haven’t touched Chun-Li at all, I have no idea on how to do the infinite. You guys know? I already know that it must be done off an up TAC in the corner.

Desk made a tutorial. I believe all of this still applies to Ultimate: http://biffotasty.blogspot.com/2011/05/chun-li-infinite.html

If you mean the other one…

Then I’m not sure if there’s a tutorial.

does anyone have any tips in regards to getting her lighting leg kicks to come out fast…drum fingers blah blah anything besides hitting the same button x amount of times lol

if you’re familiar with double tapping in sf4, you could essentially do the same thing but add a third finger. so slide from ring finger --> middle finger --> index finger. just swipe the button with the tip of each finger. I’m not sure what you’re looking for though. It requires 3 inputs and I can’t think of a faster way to humanly achieve this.
Out of curiosity, what situation makes you need such a fast input for raw LL?

just for quick air combos and out of wave dashing…notice when people play they will LL seems like instantly. so was going to use as quick chip damage and from air combos. Thanks for the advice

Strange as it sounds, only do 3 inputs for LL. Some people mash too much when they need to get a move like LL out. 3 inputs makes LL come out instantly, where 4 inputs will cause you to do a normal canceled into LL. You can actually Kara your LL with this, do :m:+:h: button dash, s.:h: :h: and you’ll slide into legs. Covers a good quarter of the screen.
