Whoa… strange to think that there’s a possibility that JP Gens might lurk my AE changes posts.
I like how animated Koichinko gets while playing. I love to having sessions playing/talking theory fighter with people like that.

Well it’s not really a change, it’s an addition. EX hands sweep was already in it. but maybe they are checking the forums, who knows. Too bad some of them don’t speak english, or offer to do write ups. Was it street that can read japanese? Maybe he can contact them and see if they will give their input.
Either way, glad it’s being used more.
Well, in my opinion, absolutely NOT.
-mp, mk+hands,mk+hands combo in vanilla is better than the new TCs
-EX oga in vanilla one of the best escapes in all versions of SF4.
-The jump speed in vanilla is faster and the jump arc, lower.
-Oga crossups are easier in vanilla
-Gekiro (no ex) is better in vanilla
Only with the 2 first things, vanilla Gen is far superior. That combo was very dangerous, and the EX oga is the ultimate scape move.
Anyway, i like the new Gen in AE, is clearly better than SSF4 gen.
lol? if they were to merge all the good stuff from Vanilla and AE Gen will be god tier lol!, anyway I think Gen is still great.
I had the worst losing streak yesterday, lost like 12 straight matches with my gen, even lost to a friend who doest use gen and he just did that to mock my efforts, and I noticed that I had only 3 hrs of sleep that night and for some reason my fingers where kind of numb and I had brain lag ( I think of something and take 30frames for my finger to execute)
Generally what makes a good Gen player in your opinion?
-Patience
-Knowledge of the match-ups (knowledge of the other characters frame data, best punishes, escapes etc)
-Ability to pick up on their opponents habits or their play style then the gen player adjusts.
-Knowledge of spacing and range, this goes for everything, pokes, how far away they can be to jump in over projectiles without being punished.
-Solid AA (I used to be good with AA’s but lately I’ve been hesitant and end up letting them jump in.)
-Great execution whether is for combos, pokes, frame traps, dashing, jumping etc.
-^in addition to execution, knowledge of what combo hits whom and when, best punishes.
-Ability to tech.
-Ability to jump between defensive mode and offensive attacks without thinking.
-Did I mention patience?
patience, not patients. lol
oops. i just woke up so wasn’t even paying attention. I still have sleep in my eyes.
its aight, happens to everyone hehe
oh and yeah, amiyu’s a beast
Wow… people actualy think that Vanilla Gen was better than AE Gen.
Vanilla Gen had that nice combo and that was about it. Ex Oga was extremely overrated, it was so easy to pursue Gen. It think it was in a FT10 between Yeb and Valle that a Gen player had all of his Ex Ogas punished. Ex Gekiro > Ex Oga by a large margin.
Then we also had the most useless set of buttons ever made to a non Viper/Fuerte SF character (crane c.mp being unsafe on hit, slowest overhead ever, bad frame data in general on both stances, etc.), 0 ways to fight against fireballs (in a game of godly shotos), 0 tools to stop Bison’s scissor pressure, bad hitconfirms in general… Vanilla Gen was just about mkxxhands and the good meter you get from it.
EX oga has multiple options once you were out, so you didn’t know if he was going to just stick against the wall and fall down, or dive back at you or ceiling drop. In most cases just getting out and staying out was a good option and was hard to punish by some characters. and even if they did punish you, at least you were out of the corner. Plus no escape in this game is 100%, both akuma and sim’s teleports can be baited, punished what have you.
Gen’s poking is probably about the same maybe… his MK was a godlike poke and could run with the best of them, so if you are a footsie style player than it’s perfect for you. c.MP hands misses by a few hits, so it’s not a perfect poke into hands like s.MK, hands was. Crane was not that bad, I knew some crane heavy styled gens in vanilla and they had a easier time to switch to super gen.
It all depends on your style of play. IMO I think vanilla gen is better with some what fewer options, but overall AE gen has more options. They took a way his major plus sides that made him a good character (he wasn’t low tier IMHO in vanilla) and gave him more options but made it more of a risk factor, and gen’s risk/reward factor in super is total trash. Vanilla gen was straight forward damage, which if in the right hands, left no room for error.
I think AE is going to be a balance of Vanilla and Super.
But like I said, IMO “so far” vanilla maybe a bit stronger, but I’m more excited to play AE gen than if they went back to vanilla gen.
vanilla gen was better than super gen by a wide margin. his damage being the main factor in my mind. i take super sf4 gens toolset over vanilla gens toolset any day of the week, but the damage potential is amazingly low in super
i dont know if we can say the same about AE gen. it looks like he could be good again with damage relative to vanilla, and the toolset from super. i know he wont have meterless 280 punnishes, but it should be relative to the nerfs that everyone else has gotten in the last 2 games
not that I didn’t help this conversation, but it’s totally off topic. I say next time let’s take it to General conversation.
eh, ok. its about time for a new video thread anyway tho, with AE coming out and all
You cannot keep my fists in your sight when they move with the fury of hell!!!
In regards to the Amiyu vs Eita match. At around 10:12, does anyone know if Gen actually punished Akuma’s fireball on block with cr. mp? It looks like Akuma was still recovering when Gen stuck out the cr. mp.
That kinda thing is hard to figure out, cuz “looking like” recovering doesn’t necessarily mean he is in recovery state. Kinda like how stance change takes 5f but graphically consumes much longer time. Also, Akuma’s fb in SSF4, IIRC, is -4 on blank range block, so the move itself must get nerfed for the punish to be possible. We will have to hit the lab to make sure.
I haven’t done it much vs Akuma since it’s -4 and if it is actually hitting, it could be some sort of frame thing like s.MP, c.HP against him. I’ve hit Ryu’s with s.MK after FB, but he’s -6.
c.MP links after s.LP so it maybe super fast now. so it’s possible.
Before this discussion is deaded: Looking at those Amiyou vids again, it’s really nice to see a Gen that’s actually somewhat scary. Look at that second round vs the Ken player - that player doesn’t make THAT many mistakes and he still ends up perfected. Amiyou’s able to punish mistakes HARD with those combos, which is one of the major flaws of SSF4 Gen - he can’t really punish mistakes and keep his opponent scared of f:ing up, unless he’s got a full super bar. The opponent can take a lot of risks against Gen, knowing that he’s a low health character.
Oh and also, I’ve seen lots of players doing c.LP -> TC2, and almost all of them are successfully linking it 99% of the time. I do know they’re great players, but it’s an 1f link. Also, I’ve noticed that nobody is using s.LP -> TC2. I’m also going to have to test if crouching jab has more frame advantage when AE hits.
that would be cool if it did have an extra plus frame on hit. i use cr.lk, cr.lp, st.hpxxxgiekro as my bnb now, and it sucks big if you miss
but in either case, its a rythmic 1 frame link. so its fairly easy with practice and plinking. it wouldnt suprise me if its the same, and their execution is just really good
