"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

you said these matches were xbox right? I remember playing against a Sagat player on psn with that same odd lookin gamer tag a while back, could that been you? Anyway nice matches but I would have been piss losing the very last match needed for the gift card haha.

Some things I might mention are obvious, but not doing them will not get them into your muscle memory so you can do them on reaction during key moments, so even though it may seem trivial, it’s worth it to do it even at the most simplest times. (as long as it’s safe)

Vs Akuma - When You Focus Air Hadou’s Dash forward, so you can get in on him. If you get into that habit, you’ll do it at key moments where you are in range for attacks like sweep or PPP c.HP. Also if you are out of it’s range and it goes over/behind you dash forward.
-I’d recommend following up MK,Hands Pokes with a Gekiro finish. Especially vs Akuma players that use Air Hadou’s to keep you out. Hands push them back. Even though he was close to the wall, you’d have better positioning, and once again it goes back to muscle memory.
-You missed a huge punish opportunity after you crumpled him from your FA, I’m sure you wanted that one back, but you need to realize even if it looks like they are down, you still might be able to hit them. Go for sweep if all else fails.

vs Blanka - Punish his jump-ins with AA’s right off the start you let him jump-in for free.

  • You can Focus his Rainbow Rolls. @:07
  • His super you blocked @ 1:09 could’ve been punished better. All versions are -34 Frames so you have a clear advantage to get in on him and punish him for his mistake.
-@ 1:20 you could’ve super’d him, probably even ultra’d (not sure about the ultra, but def Super)
    -@ 1:28 & 1:34 could’ve super’d or ultra.
-@ 1:50 Personally I would’ve saved the super for later in the round. 2:06 if you had super you could’ve finished it right there.
-You punish his electricity with c.MP which is awesome, but go for max damage and cancel into Hands.

yeah there on xbox. i dont have a PS3. … so im afraid it was not me.

Vs Akuma

-never really thought of dashing forward after FA the air Hadou. Will try it out.

-i ment to sweep him after the FA crumple, then change stance and go oga or something. But i did everything too fast … i was pissed off with that!

Vs Blanka

-I knew you could focus the rainbow rolls… i just was’nt thinking :frowning:

-the times when i blocked a blanka ball i was buffering the super and when i went to press hp or mp, nothing came out :frowning: … dam lag!

-tbh i dont know how to punish electricity, so i just wait till he stops. Again i was’nt thinking when i pocked him to C.mp … because i only use mk hands, i dont really think about c.mp hands. but i must train myself to.

For the Rainbow Roll. Sometimes it’s best to hear it from others even if you know. Because that way it kind of forces you to start thinking more about it. Personally I know my bad habits but sometimes I need to hear it from others and have them say something and it makes me work harder.

Basically anything that hits low is your best bet. Depending on the distance. I’ve been hit while trying to punish with c.LK but I was too close.

Yeah your right. Now when i play against a blanka … it should be in my mind ā€œremember what messiah saidā€ hehe!

So I just saw a video of AE some gen doing Cross up oga after a forward throw and hit crane c.rh then mk oga far immediately after. Never knew about this, maybe I’m out of the loop, haven’t played much Gen until recently. But this seems to work in chocolate. I’ve only tested a few characters. Doesn’t seem to work on shodo’s. Or mokoto, and against honda you have to use lk oga.

Has anyone tested this out on other characters? I’m curious who else it doesn’t work on cause I really don’t wanna test them all. I’m lazy.

youre pretty late, but hoigek made several vids

Hey Sharigan Mo,

When you swept him the first time at :10, you baited the wake-up DP. After the forward throw you could of dashed forward twice, do a neutral ā€œsemi-safeā€ jump then a deep Mantis (PPP) j. mk, etc.

When you swept him the second time at :21, (he was hesitant about the wake-up DP) you could of dashed forward 1 time and done a Crane (KKK) cr. hp. Be carefull because it will lose to an EX DP but it will trade with a DP.

At :47 after the crossup oga, I noticed you missed the Ultra. Just keep working on your execution.

Don’t be afraid to FADC. You went all of round 2 with a full super meter.

At 1:18 you could have FADC’ed and then Mantis mp, mk xx lk Gekirou. By doing this you would have kept the momentum and built more meter for round 3.

At 1:54 you did a Crane cr. mp. Work on cr. mp xx hp Hands. Don’t forget your AA options:

Crane cr. hk or cr. mk
Mantis cr. hp

You can use others but these I find most useful.

Having recently played Sharingan Mo, I can safely say he’s got a great Gen but doesn’t always do the best thing at the right time. Solid footsies player though  I wrote you a lengthy reply by the way but as I’m at work and I didn’t send it, SRK logged me off and I lost it all!!! >_< I’ll scribble it out again some time today on my lunch break or something lol.

Hey all. Lately I’ve been trying to shake up the Gen community. Making people feel more involved, helping out other Gen players, and basically trying to make our very small Gen brother-an feel more friendly. A few weeks back I conducted an interview with Nubbb. Nubbb in my opinion put Gen back on the map. Gen tournament appearance was stale up until he played at NCR8 vs Marn/Valle/Ross. I wanted get his opinion on Gen and some debatable topics that we talk about here. This is a 5 part series because this is super long. I wanted to make it a bit more than just a straight forward Q/A and have a 2nd opinion (myself) in the mix. I’m also trying my best to make it visually pleasing as it’s just an audio recording from Skype. Saying that I just want to throw out a thanks to iPlayWinner.

Please remember this is for everyone, new and old Gen players. I’m working on making the videos so you can jump to questions that would interest you. It’s not 100% as the other videos aren’t up yet.

I really hope you enjoy. (PS I apologize if you can’t watch it as I used a clip from Nas and youtube picked up the tag. If it really becomes a problem I’ll fix it and re-up)

messiah this is awesome. Very good, very interesting. I’ll look forward to the rest of them.

Thanks for your positive feedback. I’m sure Nubbb will be pleased as much as I am. I realize the video may seem a bit dull to some. But it’s really hard when you only have audio to work with. And web cam chats between two d00ds may seem a bit weird. So I’m just trying to make the best of it.

Thanks again.

Really cool initiative, can’t watch it in Sweden because of the song though.,

damn copywrite. Let me remake it.

There we go. It should be available in all Countries now. I didn’t read the long ass list of Countries that the video was banned because of a Nas clip. So I changed it. Even gave the Interview a new name. I think I’m going to do random Gen interviews.

So now I would like to introduce my new interview series ā€œTrue Confessions of a Gen Playerā€

Good interview, looking forward to the other parts! Nice initiative, since MVC3 is out and a lot of SSF4 activities might slow down - I’m trying to step up my Gen game a bit right now so it’s good to get some knowledge and inspiration…

tack sĆ„ mycket! (I don’t know swedish. I just looked it up)

I had a lot of fun doing it. Nubbb seems like a great guy. And hearing his opinion was a neat change of pace from having to just read everything. I wish I could do in person video interviews, but it’s going to have to be like this. After I finish my current project I will do a 2nd interview with someone. I’m thinking TommyTwoTime77 or Yeb if either one would agree to do it.
