"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

Hey guys

This past weekend I participated in Norcal Regionals 8 in singles and in teams

Team consisting of myself, LPN, and Crackfiend, I was really happy to be on this team because these guys are really good friends of mine and they’re ridiculously good

So on to the point. I competed with Gen and I’ve been maining him since Vanilla days

iPLAYWINNER TV 11/20/10 01:32PM, iPLAYWINNER TV 11/20/10 01:32PM iplaywinner on USTREAM. Gaming Entertainment 1:18:40 is me vs Kelly Shaun (Guile) and vs my friend Alex who goes by the name if Hotboy (Ryu) haha

iPLAYWINNER TV 11/20/10 03:21PM, iPLAYWINNER TV 11/20/10 03:21PM iplaywinner on USTREAM. Gaming Entertainment 00:06:21 is me vs Sanchez? (Blanka) I really didn’t want to post this because I did so bad but posting it anyway

iPLAYWINNER TV 11/20/10 03:21PM, iPLAYWINNER TV 11/20/10 03:21PM iplaywinner on USTREAM. Gaming Entertainment 00:49:08 is me vs Marn’s Dudley then vs Valle’s Ryu, and then vs Mike’s Honda So against Mike, When it was down to the wire, he did a fierce headbutt, and I hit ultra like .5 seconds too early and it didn’t come out, and everyone heard it too. Until today and for a long time it haunts me that I would’ve won =[

P.S. So against Marn, I tried doing super reset to crossup ultra LOL so stupid, luckily it didn’t come out xD

i’ve actually been told about a gen beating marn and valle at last Norcal regionals but still had no idea of who that was… but i should have figured :stuck_out_tongue:

hope they fix the link because i really want to see the matches

Omg I’m sorry I didn’t put a space between the link and the time -___- ahahaha silly me, just changed it!

wow very nice dude i was wondering who was this nu person playing gen while i was watching the stream. sadly only got to watch a few of the matches because i just got home from work.

Just saw the matches vs Valle, Marn and Mike Ross this morning. Great job repping Gen! You did a stance parry then jumped against Alex Valle right? Stylish stuff…

Also, Mike Ross is obviously an amazing Honda player but the Honda matchup is just too silly. The fat mans damage nerf is warranted for sure…

good shit. you need to post this shit over in the doom and gloom arcade changes thread

good luck no good play from gen player can destroy the wave of bitching in the arcade changes thread.

but still really nice matches and good to see some tourney gen videos, although their was some good online videos. i want to how people play gen in a tourney. i still have a lot to work on, footsies and spacing and i still have a bad habit of being a little to jumpy with gen.

plus i seem to have hit a wall with cody so im going to try to level up my gen, maybe me playing other characters can help my gen.

Lemme get this straight, HP hands has nothing different from lp hands exept the ability to fadc and to cancel into super? Cuz if thats just it I’m not gonna bother killing my hand to do a motion that can be done much easier going the other way ( I’m right handed so its much easier going from hard to light) cuz there are 50 other ways to get into super anyways. Oh and is it just me or is bnb into DP fucking godlike? Seriously, instead of going with hands I’d rather get that knock down and mix the shit outta my opponent after cuz it leaves you in perf spacing. How do u FA style change btw? Oh and to zaruka, I play viper and I’m picking up gen to help my game, not for any specific reason liek spacing or whatever its just to get another perspective on how to go about winning instead of only knowing 1 way/style.

Hp hands pushes further away and does more (chip?) damage. It also has more hits allowing for FADC and super cancels. I’d highly suggest you do learn this, because his hp hands into super is godlike. Your right hand argument is kind of weird though, I’m lefthanded but I still use my left hand to control the joystick not the buttons?

And yes, I prefer comboing into gekiro instead of hands if that oppertunity arises, especially with all of Gens oga (cross-up) setups and regular crane j.mk or mantis j.mk cross-ups. Knocking your opponent down as Gen is pretty much the best thing to do considering the amount of options you’ll have. Btw, I dont know if you know this, but you can actually cancel gekiro (dp) into crane super after after a few hits in the air. The less hits you’ll do before the better for damage scaling obviously.

I love doing mantis c.lk>c.lp>s.mp>lk gekiro> crane super, I feel like his crane super is kind of undervalued anyway. The hp version has godlike reach (like 3/4 of the screen and almost instant startup, so it catches anyone that jumps even very late).

I got a stick recently and am working on my mk-hands, I’ve got it fairly down but not consistent enough yet. And yes, it’s easier to piano from hard to light - I do the mk/lp double tap, and then piano from hard to light and add a hard punch at the end. Took a while to get the hang of it but I’m getting there.

You wouldn’t need to do the double tap with this method. you only need 5 punches. double tapping gives you 6, and the 5th (when the hands are activated) would be at lp.

I do, and I think most people that piano do lp+mk, hp, mp, lp, hp.

I.ve been working on buffering the hands in most of my combos like this;

c.lp, dbl tap, s.mp, (mp), lp+mk, hp. the c.lp doesnt count as one of the punches, so its basically 3mp’s, lp+mk, hp.

I also buffer 3 punches into my dashing; Dash forward and buffer hp, mp, lp, then do lp+mk, hp

another one I am working on is stance switch buffer; from crane, hp+mp+lp, hp, mp, lp+mk, hp.

I try to buffer hands any way that I can because for me simply doing the piano method can get tiring, especially in a tournament when you are playing for 5+ hours straight. Ill start getting to a point where my hands just stop working.

I meant the buttons are on my right side, my bad. Interesting shit with the super, I’ve only used it in trial lol. I was thinking of changing the button configuration until I saw ur post fly, I’ll try it out.

So, I dont have equipment of my own, but I searched myself on youtube and found a video! Its a ranked match, and I win, its not too flashy, and I see myself missing an opportunity to win 3-0 in the third round by not fadc’ing a jayesen to throw at the very end of that round.

hoigek made a final crossup vid. lots of walk foward into oga, but dosent look too hard

You just broke Gen. Haha! I love it. Now time to practice!!!

i can only get that walk up oga like 1/10 times i try it.lol

If someone feels like indulging a scrub at game mechanics - How can this work? Wouldn’t you lose your charge the instant you put the stick in forward?

thats a good question actually.

its basically just input leniancy(sp?). the game holds your down charge for a few extra frames while you walk foward and allows you to input a special. i usually get it if ive been blocking in crane for a while and i walk foward to poke with cr.mp. i end up getting a walk up mp roll

this input system is the same reason charge characters can do dash ultras, and the same reason why Dps come out so easy (along with shortcuts), and why reversals come out easier in general.

hoigek found a way to use it for gen to get perfect spacing on crossup ogas. very smart stuff

no this one is like a charge partition, (see urien or charge character in 3rd strike or SSF2X balrog for exemple)

I can already see that will be horrible for me to do( the charge partition), I hate charge characters more than I hate As The World Turns.
