"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

Cross up oga’s are a good comeback mechanic that put’s your opponent into a 50/50 and shouldn’t really be used any other way IMO. Oga into super and ultra will put you back into the game for sure.

I’ll admit that I used them a little too much back in the day though, I.E. not using it to put my opponent into a 50/50 for a comeback, just doing it because I can.

Good stuff! The effects kinda gave me a headache though. I’m working on my own video of genanigans on resets and uses of Oga (including character specific cross-ups, super followups, and meaty mixups… for some reason I don’t think cross up mantis U1 is as practical as people try to make it look).

The Dee Jay and Zangief segments had me rolling on the floor laughing!!

Yeah… It’ll work once and that’s it. Wont take long for people to catch on that cross up ultra.

oh I dare them to try to get out of it I’m confident i’ll hit it when i need to, ofcourse i won’t do it all the time, I’ll choose when to do it late or early, only the person who does it knows if it will cross-up since it’s Spacing+Character specific strict. Wouldn’t be practical if they had a move to get out of it. It comes down to the what happens in the match.

It’s guessing at it finest.

Since the chance the Gen will fuck it up is also present it’s one giant mindfuck, especially so against someone that knows that trick because he can’t know which way it’ll land.

Every time you do it on me I always block as if its not a crossup and it never hits, then again I’m GODLIKE  jk. Real talk though I wanna try my hand with Gen and I’m wondering where does one start with Gen? After the trials of course.

I’d start with mastering atleast 2 ‘bnb’ combos for each stance

Mantis

  • (c.lk c.lp) s.mp mk hands

  • c.lk c.lp s.mp > lk gekiro (some characters allow hk version)

Crane

  • j.mk s.lp c.lk > c.hp (or chance stance for mantis hk sweep)

  • j.hk (target combo, 2 hits) c.mp> hp roll

There are alot more variations and combos that require multiple stance changes if you wanna be fancy, but for now those 4 should keep you busy. Furthermore, I would check out his normals, regardless of what some here say I still think he has solid normals (crane j.hp is godlike, it stuffs so much) and work on your general (gen specific) footsie game. There is a sticky called gen shenanigans where I’ve compiled pretty much everything we got since super came in the first post, including my take on gen specific footsies/tricks.

Ofcourse, the usual applies here too: check the matchup thread to see what you can punish with super and ultra etc. it will come in handy.

Ok, I’m having trouble with mk into hands. I’ve watched sum tutorials on it and I’m just having trouble with the pianno key after the mk. My hand doesnt seem to be able to piano after the mk though I can piano easy with no mk, any help? Oh and yes I believe Gen has one of the best set of normals in the game + great footsies + … Idk lol hes just soooooo good. Of course he demands good execution and lots of knowledge but he’s def fun to play with.

Just keep at it. Do the motion slowly and then increase the speed. You’ve got to develop muscle memory.

Try plinking mk with lp (this has the added benefit of widening your window of opportunity to link mp to mk by one frame), then roll from hp to mp to lp and finish with hp. I still accidentally get EX hands from time to time, but I’m working on it.

Try this:
Press MK with the thumb, then press LP MP HP almost at the same time with index, middle, and ring finger respectively. Do not think you’re pianoing, just think your hand is positioned so that the distance between LP button and index finger is shorter than the MP~middle finger and HP~ring finger, and you’re pressing all 3 fingers down. Then twist your wrist to press LP with index then rotate it again to press HP with ring. I had most success with this method at day 1 of my stick practice.

I’ll try them both, thx.

I got it. I use this input though: Double tap mk+lp, piano from hp mp lp.

one problem with your method. You want/need to finish with HP. I’ts the only one cancelable after each hit.
you wont be able to do any of the FADC combos or hit-confirm super with the lp or mp versions.

Just relax your hand, and when ever you have the chance just start taping your fingers on your desk, or something to get your hand trained for the motions.

Good point, it was so easy too… Why fadc though? Isn’t best to hold ex for super?

Not always. FADC could get you a 150+ extra health and if thats all you need to finish a round than go for it.

I say, when you have the meter and you are dealing damage, its most likely best to deliver the most amount of damage you can. I only see in some cases where position can be more important.

another good tool is EX hands instead of hp. this only burns 1 meter and usually keeps you in range for a sweep or another mk-hands.

if i know theres going to be a next round and i’m in a decent life lead, i generally dont use the super but just two bars in order to start the next round with some meter… of course it might backfire if they do an unexpected comeback, but i generally do this way and it had been ok most of the times ._.

if thats the final round or is supposed to be the last one, i generally use the super straight away on most cases

Alot of people here like to fadc, I however find super far too valuable and will always opt to save it unless I can finish the round with an fadc. That’s just me. Most ofadc combos do shit damage anyway.
