"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

it’s the jump arc itself that sucks, not whether mantis or crane…

and that’s my problem I’m stuck thinking his jump arc is godlike like it was in Vanilla. I did some casuals vs a juri. will post soon. Would like to know if my footsies are a little better. I don’t except you to think so. I tried not to jump when I thought I shouldn’t have. my problem now is doing footises to AA. I let him jump in a few times. Please ignore any facts of what I should’ve done for punishes etc etc etc. I just want to know if I’m headed in the right direction for playing more footsies.

… you didn’t understand… as the others said, it’s the jump arc the point…

its all good bro. you will lose a lot in the process of trying to correct you habbits, but when it clicks, you will be much better from it. just keep it in your mind that you are going to stay grounded. the more you control the space on the ground, the more your opponent will want to jump, so until your AA game comes together fully, expect some losses, just remember to take it as a lesson in learning

add me on psn I bet I make you eat those words.

Okay I haven’t uploaded them all yet. Here is one where I tried not to jump as much. I still did a little. Once again please just focus on my footsies game. I know how to analyst everything else and what needs to be corrected. Like the timing with Juri’s fireballs. I keep eating them trying to Focus Through them.

EDIT: Sorry about the audio mid video. Youtube is screwing up the sync. The original is fine. I’m going to have re-encode it.

haha that sure does sound arrogant ^^ - btw the picture got deleted.

i think you’re doin fine. but the yuri wasn’t that good - at least not in this match. got an easy time for your footsie. he spared you with any fireballs and pressure. i bet he didnt faced a (good) gen yet and was kinda scared^^

me against a Ryu, also got a hakan vid.

i know it was’nt really an intense fight or anything…bur tips and advice would be cool. There is a big tourney this friday SvB-20 (www.neoempire.co.uk) and i want to be as ready as possible for it. as far as i know, there are only two Gen’s attending. My self and raisebyfinches.

so lots of advice would be very welcome. Anything specific i need/should work on?

You’re hanging out either way outside your mk range. Or you’re wayyy too close. Basically you are in juri’s ranges but not yours. You need to be moving around around the tip of your mk. And going in and out of that range. Juri doesn’t like you there because she doesn’t have a comparable poke and you can easily counter hit her fireballs from that range. So she’s either going to back up and push herself into the corner or try to get in.

Photo link doesn’t work.

You can go ahead and add me if you want. Any of you can for that matter. I watched a few videos on your channel and I can’t say it changed my mind.

definately looked a lot more solid without all the jumps. but like stewage said, youre hanging in the far range too long. its ok to step back there if you need to create space now and then after getting your life lead, but ideally you want to be in a spot where you can AA if they jump at you and you can threaten with mantis mk, or crane cr.mp. further back is where you get zoned out, or pushed into the corner yourself. luckily this juri didnt shoot many fireballs or have much of a ground game either

I’m fairly impressed but like Raww said you’re not really playing footsies in your favor, that juri had the range advantage almost the whole time, he just didn’t know how to poke ever. Know your ranges don’t just walk back and forth for no reason, you walk forward to step in their range, and walk backward to get them to throw a poke and punish it, or if your going for a poke just step in your range and be random, don’t get in patterns. Between sweep and mk, they should be your main pokes, and if you’re in a fairly close range mp should be your main poke. s.mp is pretty amazing for pressure with its + frame advantage on block and hit.

Lot of times when I’m in close after a jump in or pressuring them on wakeup I’ll basically spam mp, first a meaty one on wakeup then another for a counterhit then into mk hands and they almost always get hit by one of the 3 moves unless they know how to block. Occasionally mp will trade but its generally no big deal and worth it.

I have a few more videos that I’m going to upload. Once again I’m not used to Juri so please spare the ā€œyou could’ve punishedā€ once more. you guys are great. and thanks for the input. I know what I should be doing to punish her moves. like her jump up counter. I should be Gekiro or Crane SUper. But thats another time. You can give me more insight. Thanks for giving me some great criticism

Well, first of all… more Oga. That’s your best tool against hadoken spammers…

Once you are in, stay in their face. You kept hitting them then backed way off. You had to start all over. I’ve been victim of this before. Also if you start a block string, try to use your hit confirms and mix it up. Instead of going into hands. Stop, let them make a move then punish, or dash up and throw. Or after the the block string use crane overhead. Of course mix it up. If you find they aren’t mashing SRK during your block strings, using things like s.MP… pause. c.MK, xx hands works. or s.MP, c.LK

Yep jumped a few times. But like I said I’m trying not to.

K this Ryu totally out footsied me. I need Help please. I really need help with shotos now that I’m trying not to jump. I keep eating damn fireballs. I try to Focus attack through them but I don’t have the timing down perfect like I did in Vanilla. No idea why it looks like I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to that.

Please give some insight on this match-up and how I could use better footsies. Thanks.
