You know what, people post vids and everytime they are given some critisism you get ‘‘LOL CASUALS DAWG’’
Well shit, if you don’t want people to critique them don’t risk it by posting. People are just trying to help out you know. Messiah too, ‘you weren’t asking for help’? Oh come on, you always like to help others in every way you can seeing yourself as a leading Gen, but when critiqued you take on this attitude…Other character sections have a seperate threads on videos and video critique thread, might be handy to do that here aswell to prevent this shit.
Screw super is all I have to say. I’ma get into continuum shift when it comes out. I’m tired of working my ass off with a shitty ass character. If I play this game anymore I’m just gonna pick thawk and hope for lucky wins. Cause I really don’t care anymore. I worked to hard for them to fuck gen up and frankly, I just don’t care anymore.
I agree that we need to be open to criticism, but you have to agree that anyone who doesn’t know ariez will think he’s a dick as a first impression, even though he means good by it. Why am I posting here? I must be lost.
I think you’re still posting here because you can’t help not wanting Gen to be better than what they did with him in super. Then again seeing what players have done with Adon and other ‘newer’ characters there still could be hope.
^ Adon and co are completely new characters, Gen isn’t.
The basis for Gen remains the same, difference lies in small nuances now. But the Gen section is pretty dead anyway, most people that come here kind of play Gen as a 2nd/3rd/4rd character or just post because they feel the need to do so like in this topic. I have a tourney coming up next week (local province tourney, expecting 50 people or so) and decided I will rep Gen in the pool phase since I’m not limited to one character. We will see how it goes.
As far as I see it, tha messiah, street11 (don’t take offense if I did not list you) and to a lesser extend myself, are trying to find new nuances/tricks in super Gen. It’s not all gloomy though, because there have been cool stuff discovered so far imo. The new matchup thread is pretty balling, with cool info on hard matchups like using HP hands to punish scissor kick etc. Stuff like that will help. Not only matchup info, also some Gen specific footsies/shenanigans definately help out and have come a long way.
Ariez said Gen users need to step up their game, well believe me when I say the true Gen players are doing that. Just take a look at some of the new stickies (Zukuu’s awesome new movelist thread, shenanigans thread etc) contain loads of useful info created pretty much based on the super version of the old man.
Well i was thinking Gen new because he is completely different in Super. If he hasn’t changed then he wouldn’t be in this predicament he is now.
Still though you’re right there is some interesting stuff that I’ve seen from Gen. Still wouldn’t you think that Gen is changed so much, he is almost like a brand new character?
He is not a brand new character at all, he still has all of his moves but Capcom decided to remove certain aspects of his game. He still has mk hands, they just removed his loop. He still has some EX oga invincibility but it has been redcued greatly (to the point it is almost useless) etcetera…
Unfortunately they did not succesfully replace the things they removed with equal (or better) things. I’d say Gen is now like his Alpha version (extremely footsie based) except no Alpha chains, which is ridiculous. I can honestly say if they had given him chains I would enjoy him so much more than even Vanilla Gen. Because to me Gen was all about skillfully plasying footsies looking for a big ass chain combo. Now he is a hybrid of vanilla Gen and certain aspects of Alpha Gen, yet he does not posses any truly frightening skill that both of the other versions did imo.
nope that rufus god i hate that fat motherfucker, rather face ryu or sagat any day then the fat divekick from hell. at least he he got a damage nerf a little, should have made him a low stamina tho. fast motherfucker got the speed of ibuki with more heath.
which sucks because i got a buddie who plays main him.
Went looking through this thread and on youtube/nicovideo and found some vids that have been posted with retartedly helpful information im going to post them and break them down in and confirm them for all characters ill be editing this post a number of times within the next few days
Yewah people are quick 2 say that But I appreciate you analyzing the match I was just letting you know why I wasted meter. No biggie. Feel free to go completely in on me when I post video’s here. iLL drop a few more here tell me what I could have done to beat this Sagat.
This piece of shit was annoying as hell.

I’m going to MAIN GEN goto tournaments and rep him so be relentless on my mistakes, Thanks.
It definitely seems like you panicked after losing round 4.
I can see that you kept getting countered out on those normal fights so try throwing in a LK/EX gekiro in between those strings once or twice to let him think twice. Sure it is risky, but so is tiger uppercut w/o FADC.
Speaking of which, you missed all opportunities after successfully blocking uppercut. I’d recommend going for crane c.MP -> Roll or simply sweep instead of trying to grab, since it has a really short range. Try using more mantis s.MK, it is fast and has a long range so it will usually stop his knee attempt. Less crane s.HK would help you as well.
I honestly think that you could have won if you successfully punished all those blocked uppercuts and the Ultra, since it can make opponent throw less of those mashed uppercuts in the upcoming rounds if he’s the learning type. I cannot judge everything here however, since I dunno how much latency was in that match.
Lastly, my ears hurt listening to two musics at the same time
lol that sagat sucks
My observation on Round 5
Starts, Sagat jumps in, you could have done lk gekiro or EX gekiro Anti Air
Then you jump back, dude mashes T.Knees to get close, and when he’s in ur face you did crane C.HK … ? why? and he just did T.Uppercut as predicted.
After the 1st T.knee he did, you could have done mantis C.hk sweep but ok.
u wake up and he T.Knee again
He does a cross up, c.lk, c.lp then s.mk from sagat, that isnt a link you could have mashed some ex gekiro or something to punish.
Nigga again follows you with T.knees, you neutral jump, he focuses, i dont know what you did there, i would have tried to grab while holding back.
And after that omg! he T.U. in ur face and u didnt do shit, Mk>Hands xx Super > ultra? oh well.
After that, everything was over… well, some observations from a fellow gen player, i hope this helps.
Yeah I play pad… i.e. No medium kick hands… That sagat tiger uppercutted every combo I tried to do. It was a laggy match 2. But once I realized I could do no combo’s I was running ou of option’s. He was spamming rediculously. Thanks for the tips on the punishes. I should have used them but those tiger uppercuts hurt LoL I swear I can almost feel them shit’s. I’m a post some better matches later.
I’m thinking aout grabbing a stick and start all the way over. Because medium kick hands is NOT in my repertoire at all… Thanks for checking for it.
I play on pad as well and cannot do raw MK hands either. I just throw out s.MK by itself, it still has decent range and is even safer than blocked roll. Try using c.MP hands if you want a poke to do higher damage, it’s easier to do with pad, using thumb and index finger only (assuming button 1 config), but is 2 frames slower to come out and has a slightly shorter range.
I checked out some other videos as well and you were doing some punishes with c.MP xx Roll, so I will guess your condition wasn’t decent when you recorded this.
ggs iLL
such a coincidense i found you in that endless room!
i wonder why did you stopped using gen, i wanted some gen vs gen mirrors for fun.
I have been playing lot of adon lately, your dhalsim was annoying lol, that slide into grab was annoying, i ate like 20 throws that way.
lmbo ryu wasn’t even “god tier” in SF4, I don’t know how anyone could think he was “god tier” in SSF4. His uppercuts suck in this game, holy god.
If it was so laggy you couldn’t do basic things like punish uppercuts or finish combos then the it’s not really relevant for criticism, unless you’re bad at those things, in which case the answer is to practice.
That Sagat was playing a noobsmasher style, lots of risky calculated uppercuts because he knows you can’t punish them well, lots of goofy jump-ins (why would Sagat ever jump in like that) because you’re doing a bad job of anti-airing him. If that is seriously reflective of your gameplay right now then you need to practice your fundamentals in matches (anti-airing and punishing), and if it isn’t reflective then why did you post it?
Speaking more broadly, you need to be able to accurately guess your opponent’s style in one round or less, if a dude is playing a super disrespectful, risky game you need to adapt and play poke-and-block reactionary style until the guy either loses or changes styles. Most people that play like that right out of the gates don’t have a back-up plan and will lose fast.
