"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

messiah, why are you following up your crane c.lk’s with mantis j.mk, isnt there a better punish?
Are you hoping to land early and rejuggle once? I cant figure it out

I’m guessing reset possibilities.

EDIT: Bro why do you waste so much meter on fadc throw? You did it alot in the 5 matches that I’ve watched, luckily he failed to tech them almost every time though. He missed some big oppertunities to start a Vortex aswell :frowning:

because I usually fadc block string. it throws people off. it works, why fix what isn’t broken?

guys these are casuals. I was drinking all night. Stop taking them so serious.

So anyways. My youtube videos have reached 10,000 views. These days that isn’t a lot but 100 or more views each video makes them feel worth while. As a response here is a video I posted. The damn PSeye really flushes me out so sorry that I’m a little see-thru.

About the Gen vs Gen match:

  • You tried to fadc (once from a roll) twice but you forget to dash out of the focus, luckily he didn’t punish it after that roll so you could still throw him.

  • You jump/abuse Oga alot, this might work now (and against JammAaj, I trained him for awhile haha) but it’s better to play a grounded footsie game. Especially in super since his jump arc is kind floaty, giving more than enough time for your opponent to anti-air etc. Oga should be used moderately in my opinion, since if it is blocked your opponent can get a free punish combo.

  • Still a personal preference, but I think worth mentioning: your meter management. For example in the second round near the end you had him on low life in the corner. You did a crossup and it hit, allowing for a finishing combo/throw. Instead you go for crane c.lk into fadc hit to finish the round. You had 3 bars, so I think that is something to look into.

Just some thoughts

That was beautiful.

illusoyun you need lots of work…work on RH waterfall rather than mk…stop jumping so much…learn to punish wiffed dp’s HARD, work on links off of low short, and focus bait.

Add me on psn and we can have a session if you have a mic ill teach you some shit

Ok seriously…lol where do i start…nice effort in playing the old man. But man you gotta step it up, learn your matchups!

You did a few note worthy things, but too many messed up things to list. From what ive seen so far all gen players in this thread (except for maybe warlike) need to ascend. I will tell you just like i told yeb in Vanilla…STOP USING OGA TRICKS!!! THEY ARE BAD!! Yeb didnt believe me, then he played players who knew how to fight the old man, and punish those scrubb oga tricks and yeb well how do i say this HE GOT BODIED!

Ive won 3 tournaments with Gen and played a great number of high level players on/off line and in tournaments. And i still say im far from pro BUTT i have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to this character.

Gen has all the tools to win and i MEAN ALL THE TOOLS! but he requires a great deal of work, so chances are if your doing something with gen thats easy, then it isnt correct. If Gen was easy he’d be the most imbalanced character in the game.

Gen players Learn your frame data its a must
Learn to use Mantis MP MORE!!! that move is a god send and a really good ch magnet
Learn your stance focus and walk speed, NEVER release a focus in crane stance, and never focus bait in crane due to the fact that your hitbox goes forward
Learn your walkspeeds
Learn to kara throw, its like a command throw its amazing when combined with standing strong its a 50/50 in its own right
Space yourself so that your anti airs are effective WE CANNOT AFFORD TO TRADE HITS!
DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT BURN METER RECKLESSLY! 2 meters for a tech-able throw is RIDICULOUS!

Something i dont think people realise about gen is that his maximum punishes build ALOT of meter, and deal ALOT of stun. Learn them!

Those are some things to start, im going to main gen for a while to help with this forum! please dont be afraid to ask for anytips, and if you are on psn, i am always down for a session if im not at work.

who is this kid? I’m playing for fun. If you want tournament play me in 3rd strike or a FPSer. you are a no body to me. I’m messing around. first to ten is where it’s at bud. that’s where the high level of play is. Half of my ranked matches and casuals I’m half in the bag. I don’t need your tips, hints, or arrogant comments. no one cares how many tournaments you’ve been in. When I post, give me some tips. I’ll post it. These are for fun.

Maybe you burn meter, but I have no problem building it. Maybe you are the one who should go back to the drawing board.

Framedata knowledge + matchup knowledge + footsies/spacing

I’ve been messing around using these three concepts in mind every game I’ve played. Obviously you need to be able to execute combos but that shit should be second nature for most Gen players now (I would hope). I will say though that I completely agree with ariez on wasting meter to fadc into throw. If someone did that to me I’d be happy as fuck because he just wasted 2 bars for something I could tech with ease. Yeb was a fan of Oga shenanigans (didn’t overuse them) and indeed it did cost him some rounds/matches at times, however I still feel like Oga has uses but that’s just me I guess.

But ariez, tha messiah posts alot of videos and they’re all online play. I think he is just doing Oga sometimes because he knows his opponents will fall for it due to their lack of matchup knowledge on Gen/skill level. I wouldn’t take everything he posts real serious, even though critism is always apreciated by him, as it should be if you are willing to improve.

Also, why the fuck did you stop playing competitively? :frowning:

EDIT: that ‘kid’ was a leading Gen player in vanillas early days and a very strong player. Also forget what I said about him not minding critisism, probably because of the way ariez delivered it. Imma bail out because this going to get salty real quick LOL

Thats Ariez Fools!!! Long time no see Ariez, what have you been up to?

Also, ariez means nothing totally bad by whatever he sais messiah, he’s just trying to help. Hes from the days when gen was GDLK in vanilla.

yea ariez was the one who gave the piano exercises. so he knows what he talking about, although he rarely post here. those exercises are really good i need to start doing them again, although i dont play gen/honda since my damn hand ant fast enough to do piano. i usually use the slide method in vanilla, and although i suck at fadc back then it work for the simple punishes. but right now ibuki although something things i cant get done with my execution sjc into ultra. her links, vorterx and target combos work good for what i can do now.

that’s cool i wasn’t asking for help. When I want it i’ll ask. but thanks anyways.

@ Warlike

Match was casual I was just stunting on dude I was playing… That medium kick 2 fadc I was hoping I had enough enrgy to go into crane Ultra 1

@ariez rh waterfall kick whiffs often… so often I rarely use it which is why I may have not completed one. I Do have about 5 combos of of low short as wel but i don’t do them against Gen’s poke them more. Punishing dp’s is usually m.punch to waterfall kicks. But you’re right I do need an ultimate punish for that move ariez I’d love to have spar sessions with you and learn because my Gen although I feel is @ 60% of what it could be. I’m more then open to other Gen players perspectives.

So I’ll add you thanks for even checking the video’s out.

Warlike: Stopped competing cuz i made waaaaaay more money playin football, and personal training, on top of the fact that i hate the sf4 series lol but i still play money matches at tournies.

Evil: Sup boss, im livin good how you livin

Zaruka: Piano aint supposed ta be easy, but i hear yea, making gen worth it is possible just retartedly hard, its the reason i use Seth and akuma as mains and blanka and gen as secondaries
