"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

Ah man!!!1 we lost Jibbo, Yeb,Rhillis, and now Asiantom. Personally I don’t think Gen is terrible, but its sad to see that There are players that were good with Gen, now going to characters that are probably more viable in tournaments. sucks.!!! I enjoy some of the new characters as the rest of them but come on Gen is so unique. So much so I think capcom was afraid to make Gen viable. Its more of a wait and see approach now.

I think I’ve put too much time into Gen that I probably won’t give up on him. Plus it’s not like I’m going to Evo. Local tournaments is all I’ll be attending and unless WCG takes on SSFIV I don’t think anything major would be in my area. I do take playing Gen seriously because I like to win, and I do take most gaming seriously as well. But to be honest, competitive gaming is at a stand still and I probably won’t get into it much. Playing for Darkside on Counter-Strike is my highlight.

This is what keeps bothering me too, I can’t let him go easily. I’ve put ridiculous amounts of work into him. I feel like I get little reward for it in the end, yet it is still hard for me to actually say I fully switched mains.

yea that why i have not played a lot of ibuki because i know how to play gen even in his more fuck version in this game. plus ibuki poke game is not as good as her in 3rd strike so i have no idea how i could get in with her like i can with gen.

i dont have enough cash to go to evo and my area just started doing tourneys so im going to keep trying to use gen, im going to get ibuki stuff down before i start playing her more.

You guys…
You’re not giving Gen enough credit.

I’m sad, today I faced the best players in Santa Cruz, CA.
And I must say, my Gen did fairly well. VERY well against these guys.
And we’re no scrubs either…

Does anyone wanna play me sometime and give me chance?
You can try out your “so-called” new mains or secondaries against me.

BTW, good shit with the Gen vids, i’ll be posting some up soon.
I’ll show you the way I play Gen…

What? Oh you think switching mains because a character is hardly viable for competitive play is wrong? I doubt you are going to show us anything new that jibbo, yeb (ex Gen), thamessiah, asiantom, me, zukuu, crazyandy, zaruka, or any other longtime Gen player have not seen or done. Your post comes off as a little…hostile, which is exactly something that this section also does not need. But I guess you will show us all right?

and I just read your post correctly…
Well, I was just saying that I think Gen is still competitive.
I was just asking people to play w/ me so I can show them how I play Gen, that’s all =]

… Man, you just are messed up.
Just because i’m not pro doesn’t mean I don’t have useful advice for you guys.

Geez, makes me never wanna help.
You guys are on your own…

Your post has an air of arrogance to it.

I’m messed up? Right…Your other responses in topics aren’t very insightful or constructive either, with stuff like ‘‘LOL, you guys are too funny’’ It doesn’t work in your advantage as your first few post in the Gen section.
I suggest if you really want to help the Gen community out you should find interesting footsies or help out with the new matchup thread etc.

Everyone new to Gen(or some old pre SSF4 Gen players) have put the same response and have the same mindset as you, Zero.
Only after taking Gen to a major tournament do they realize just how awful the situation is.

oh yea even i someone who dont even go to tourneys can see gen not really good in tourneys. he does not have anything that he can use to really punish someone for fucking up.

in vanilla street fighter 4 he had his mk hands punish if they got caught it was just as good as ryu fadc into ultra although it took more work for the damage which in all cases how gen should played.

like i said in my other posts i think capcom was so worried about getting rid of the loop they went to extremes to remove it from the game. becuse mk into hands use his

hp hands push back which was nerf

his great mk range which was nerf

and he need a lot of meter so he could do the combo which they nerf. the biggest nerf of them all.

still love the old man i want to see how i can do in Oklahoma with him since it seems we are starting to do local tourneys. i see how it pans out from there if not i got ibuki who has problems but she does great damage with her combos and mix up game. just wish she had her good pokes from 3rd strike but that okay i can still do damage

and if not i was learning akuma before super came out and he got a lot of reward for his execution.

me vs an online adon.
opponent wasn’t very good. kept falling for gekiro hesitating and oga stuff. my play wasn’t very impressive untill the end. i missed alottttt of stuff including a super that i’ve hit a kagillian times.
just wanted to share a vid with the gen gods.

that’s the reason along with sweep whiff + more scaling that s.lp => c.lk is IMO a bad combo and it doesnt really add more “hit confirm” time window. (since you’ve to cancel s.lp into c.lk, hard to see in 1 frame if you hit, + both are unsafe on block anyway). just my opinion, some swear on it tho.

i know that sweep will whiff at some points if i include the s.lp but i used to use just the c.lk and get punished aloooot.
i swear i’ve done s.lp, c.lk super like there was no tomorrow. you all prolly have done it to. lol. just for me it’s become muscle memory. i have been working on staying in mantis and not ogaing much which was a huge problem for me. people would catch on to gens horribly obvious cross up lol.
thank you for taking the time to critique me i appriciate your honesty and oppinions. i hope to show improvements.

That’s why I did s.lp >c.lk aswell.

If c.lk gets blocked it’s -7 frames, if s.lp gets blocked only afew attacks can beat it and most of the time you can backdash in time anyway.

that might be right. but u cant see if s.lp hits AND do a c.lk. on reaction afterwards you have to do s,lp => c.lk right away without realizing if it hit or not. and this letting your opponent way more time to realize that they can punish you.

It is right, and actually it is pretty easy to hitconfirm it.

i saw many replays from gens using j.mk => s.lp => c.lk on BLOCK. many times. its just a fact that the frame window to realize that s.lp hit is too small to get an c.lk on reaction afterwards since it’s an normal cancel. imo it has mostly only disadvanteges (super / sweep whiff, less damage due to scaling etc). u can’t tell me that u can react in 1 frame to realize if s.lp hit or not. in the end u do s.lp => c.lk on block and this is as unsavfe as only c.lk, but on hit u’ve advantages. besides u eat a revarsal srk anyway if the connect from j.mk => s.lp/.clk miss anyway ^^

i dont want to argue about it, it’s mere personal preference, but the point that you can “hit confirm” it is just a myth.

i just played a dhalsim online that was not as scrubby as the past people. i seem to have a problem with him. how can i improve this matchup.

and again thanks for any input on my playing

perhaps it is a myth. but the utility is still there. i have to stop myself from doing it cuz people have caught on. perhaps ill j.mk, s.lp backdash/throw. from now on. to be on the safer side. sure the free super is nice though but like you said scaling is hell.

if u want to be safe, just change to mantis after the crossup while airborne. giving you the usual safe play ^^
if u want to be on the safe side with crane stance. use c.lp it leaves you frame neutral on block, and can be a good frame trap for another c.lp or c.mp=>roll etc

btw: nice ultra in the first round and super in the second
