"Lay Hands on'em!" Gen Video Thread

Wait what? I was not talking about c.lk reset. The only thing you can possibly do after that is crossup Oga.

it’s cr.hp reset…

Right but I don’t use j.mk s.lp c.lk c.hp for reset oppertunities obviously. It just does slightly more damage, that’s all.

That’s what Asiantom is saying homie.

Haha, i was still talking about your mentioning how cr.hp gives you slightly more damage but does not knockdown. I also didn’t see those videos you linked where people were talking about oga resets (which is where I think we ran into some subject confusion haha)

Haha, I was thinking it might’ve been a failure of my english reading comprehension! ^^

Massachusetts Tournament this past weekend.

Don’t mind the very bad commentary.

Notes: I jump a lot, but that’s because I know this player pretty well since we play a lot. I know he has trouble anti-airing so I abused that.

My bnb is cr.short, cr.jab, st.mp, st.mk~hands. I still FADC a lot because of muscle memory from vanilla. I’m trying harder to control that because I really value the super. But I try to make the most out of the FADC with st.mp, st.hp~lk gekiro for the knockdown.

I’m sort of working on this too, but I think I’d prefer my bnb to be cr.short, cr.jab (or st.jab), st.fierce~lk gekiro. It’s 1 frame and I’m terrible at plinking, but I like it because it’s pretty decent damage and again, I like the knockdown.

I might take that as my bnb aswell. To be honest I haven’t really thought about a bnb combo in ssfiv yet, I just sort of did mp mk hands as my mantis bnb and j.mk s.lp c.lk c.hp as my crane bnb I guess.

Do you happen to know the damage value of that bnb you’re using by heart?

Good match, he really didn’t anti-air you well indeed. Yeah I guess you FADC abit too much, like in the last round he already blocked you mk hands and you FADC’ed into another combo that was also blocked (ƍā€™m guessing you thought he was going to throw you). Nice match, I’m glad there are still Gen warriors.

What’s the point of those resets after Oga? Are they safe or did your opponents just fail to block them?

I actually haven’t taken the time to find the damage on the FADC combo.

I do know:
cr.lk. cr.lp, st.mp, st.mk~hands = 176/298 and st.mp, st.hp~lk gekiro = 233/289 - Those that together minus the awesome damage scaling would be… I’ll find that out hah. It does take a chunk out of sagats life though.

Resets are a usually a mixup of which side the next strike will be from. They’re a bit of a risk and honestly a lot of good players will block the initial Oga anyways.

that’s some awzum gen play. wanna see more. you have a nice patient yet spaced footsi gameplay…

too much fadc but old habbits die hard, like you say
some mixup game with oga and crane stuff and some Focus Attacks would improve your gameplay even further. but if you know each other, might me too risky. still it’s also good as it is. <3

and yeah: commentary sucked xD

Yeah when I do manage to land Oga I usually prefer following it up with gekiro/super/ultra.
I just don’t see how the additional two hits warrant the risk of eating a DP.

If you don’t have super or ultra a reset is much more interesting. Besides, you can do mp mk hands after crossing under so even on block it’s safe (provided you don’t drop your combo). Besides, the mix up potential is great.

I only use it for online play though, and doing a reset into mp mk hands>super ultra does great damage and looks sick when fully done. Most people don’t know shit about Gen and I will continue to abuse the hell out of that until they actually have an answer for it. Against people from SRK or offline I almost never do a reset, only if I feel/predict what my opponent is going to do after the reset (i.e. if he tries to shoryuken I will backdash and punish etc.). It’s more of a mindgame thing. Obviously if you have ultra or super you should do that but that goes without saying.

Good stuff Asiantom! Hope to see more. How did you fare at the tournament? Couldn’t see any part of the stream.

Also any tips on Jumping mk , Smp ~ Smp ~ Smk ~ hands? timing is odd compared to original combo that we got from Jibbo.Jumping mk , Smp ~ Smk ~ hands

I did pretty poorly unfortunately haha. I got 17th out of 61, losing to Nestor (Akuma) and pretty much getting owned for free by Seiya (Guy). I have no idea how to deal with Guy’s elbow (amongst a lot of other Guy stuff). I wish that match was recorded so I could perhaps get some feedback.

I actually didn’t do hands from st.mp, the same way Jibbo did. He did st.mp (piano 3 punches), st.mk~lp, hp which made the hands come out, right? I’ve always just done, st.mp, st.mk (then I piano all five inputs lp, mp, hp, mp, hp) for hands. So when I do mp, mp, mk~hands it’s really no different to me. I’m not sure if you’re trying it Jibbos way.

If you are using Jibbos way it’s one less input.

Vanilla - MP (Piano HP, MP, LP) MK~LP, HP

Super - MP (Piano MP, LP) MK~LP, HP

Not sure how MP, MP, MK, Hands would work. I use slide when I use the 2x MP, MK Hands

I tested using piano, and I was able to hit it like this.

j.MK, s.MP, s.MP (Piano HP, MP, LP) MK~LP, HP

The Piano seems like it needs to be hit way faster than in Vanilla (obviously because MP is different)

I’m uploading a few videos but because they are like 150MB each they are taking a while to upload and encode. So I’ll do them one at a time.

(Ryu) This was after I did a cardio work out so I was kinda blah for the first round. Also I’m still not used to using Crane U2 so I just threw it out there like a nub. I was hoping he was going to stand HK or c.Fierce but he didn’t

YEAH RESET INTO THROW

erm, nice match. Your footsies were really good in this match, loving the dash into throw out of nowhere.
