GOOD STUFF

I haven’t previously posted vids ever, and thought I should start. These are all Super SF4. I’m not the best by any means but I do pretty good. I still haven’t really changed my mindset from vanilla and the videos clearly show that. I haven’t really put hands to super into my game yet. I do like the improved crane super a lot though! Still missing links I previously rarely used, and my use of ultra is just playful (these are casuals after all). I never really mastered the timing for LK Gekiro but I think I finally have it down, some of these vids I’ll fudge it up. That being said I hope these are enjoyable and informative. Good match-up variety.

I play a few other characters on the side and have a couple videos on my channel with them if anyone is interested too.

I don’t want to seem like I am hating on you Newtype Andy but all of your videos you are relying on shenanigans/gimmicks.
Your opponents seem very average or below. It could very well be because the game is new and ppl are experimenting and trying out stuff, who knows?

None of the stuff you were doing works against competent opponents. You’ll lose half your life on a blocked Oga or get thrown at best.
A blocked cr.lk is easily reversal punished and also now a blocked KKK st.LP wtf capcom.
You are jumping very unsafely.
Your wins seemed to be gained from your opponents lack of knowledge against Gen tbh.

I know. I haven’t quite figured out what I’m supposed to be doing yet, so I’m keeping on with the shenanigans until I have enough reason to do otherwise. I agree my opponents just don’t know how to block Ogas though. Like when I play Nick T.'s Abel, it doesn’t go as well. I used to go toe to toe with him in vanilla but either his normals have better attack boxes or ours got worse. We can’t seem to footsie with Abel as good anymore. To be fair a lot of those Ogas do hit pretty deep. I’m just having fun in crane I guess is what I mean to say. Probably because I’ve been playing Alpha 3.

Wtf Happydragon, there is some quality Gen play in there. I like that Chun Li match how you counter ultraed that shit, that was bad ass. I love how you did that super after the gekiro too.

Well, I feel like the Chun match is a bad example, I wasn’t expecting everyone to bring that one up haha! I’m under the impression that is the only replay Happy watched. That was like my least favorite one, the player wasn’t that good, and he was very upset the whole time. I’m glad you were able to enjoy watching though, that’s what counts to me.

When I play people I tend to play at their level. I don’t consider it sand-bagging, but if I know my opponent is new or at least unfamiliar with Gen I will Oga until they block. I’m pretty sure many people do this. I have only found maybe 3 truly good opponents so far. They certainly beat me more than I beat them, but I haven’t posted my wins because they aren’t clean or pretty. Just not a fan of that. When good matches against good players come up I’ll be sure to post them. Don’t dis-credit the ChrizZero (Nick T.) matches though, he is an excellent player with Abel. I’m not far from saying he might be the best in the US. His mix-ups are easily the best. This video doesn’t even show case the crazy mixes he can do. But I would rather not post videos of me getting rocked. :stuck_out_tongue: For every time I beat him he beat me probably 6-7 times. My Gen used to be able to go toe to toe with his Abel in vanilla but he has improved faster and Abel’s normals seem to have been improved as far as attack boxes go. Last night I was only able to beat him with Adon and Chun for the most part.

On a quick side note, one of my favorite new things is like in that video vs. SirCrowbar at 1:32, after a Gekiro knockdown immediately Oga ceiling dive if they didn’t safe fall and land safely as they are getting up and they pretty much always block the first time. Free throw.

this is kinda my problem too. I’m trying to break the habit but I tend to stay in crane waaaay too much and try to play mind games. I have pretty much zero poking game with Gen and it’s going to bite me in the ass one of these days when my friends figure out how to counter my gimmicks. I am too used to playing Vega in Hyper and tend to rely on the wall jump.

I use a controller. I want to Mkhands. Halp.

p.s. I don’t want to have to get a stick.

Bad news… lol
I guess you could map MK to A (or X if playstation) and map the punches to the other three facebuttons…

if it makes you feel better mk->hands is now longer a required cirriculum due to its major nerf in Super.

Yea, one of the major things that got me to think about it is the trial that makes you do it. I also tend to stick with mantis and only doing j.mk(crossup) c.mp hands. Any tips that can help me branch outside of this habit?

edit: is there a shorter way to denote a crossup? I’m new to this stuff.

For the trial, you can add more to the combo before-hand. Like do cr.jab, cr.jab, s.strong, s.forward xx hyakurenko. Then you should only need to double tap one of those punches or you could hit jab at the same time you do the s.forward.

There’s not really any specified way to denote cross-up so we just type it out if need be. I used to see people typing x-up a long time ago too.

Don’t plan on maining Gen at all but some valid criticism and tips are welcome whether they’re for improving overall game or improving my Gen game.

Finish your Gekiro kicks. Tech the throws. Mix it up with fake ogas maybe. At 2:02 you dropped your links, practice that. If you can’t get them down. Use Crane c.MP to roll. Keep up the good sweeps. Just becareful of good players on reaction that could lead to a super or ultra. Don’t be too obvious and predictable with them. If you aren’t already charge during moves that will allow you to. Never know when you will need it. You can always leave your charge after. rolls can help you out a great deal. Don’t go over board with the gekiro kicks as a wake up option. Good players will catch on to it. Try to mix it up. When you do Oga Ceiling dive, best thing to do is change the direction on reaction. It’s super unsafe on block and you will be punished hard for it. So if you think you can’t make it for a straight down ceiling dive, go left or right. Keep practicing and gl

Here’s a SSFIV video of Rhyllis vs me. I’m in Black. Felt I was pressuring pretty good, just got fooled by Crane U2. Still not used to it. But once they have it, I’ve been watching out for it now. See if I can stick to that game plan. More to come.

Thanks for the advice bro. Will take all of it into consideration.

Rhyllis has always been pretty good at getting in your head.

crispy crane u2 usage. First time i think it’s not THAT bad, but still - it’s random. Can’t really combo into it and have to rely on faults / mind game from opponent.

If you fight the same opponent enough with it they totally drop there fireball game if you have ultra. If they are newer to you and continue it’s an easy ultra to land. Some match-ups though U1 is just king, like vs. T.Hawk!

You can combo it after Oga, but the timing is quite strict.
