Laura Match-Ups Thread: Quench your thirst here

Kinda late to this one but here’s a video I made for punishing Mika’s dropkick. Pretty much any of your pokes will beat it on startup you can even get crush counter hp into a reset mixup. Low profile into full punish is probably the best option but if you do cr mk too late it’s possible that they can recover before you punish them.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!

ANUB1S gave some pretty neat tips in his first post. Basically use your fireball as a shield against his high arm/kick stretches to move forward (he will get electrocuted at distance) and AA on teleport. Sim’s teleports are usually so telegraphed you can simply wait for him to backjump and then do a HP Bolt Charge when he disappears.
I’ll be honest, I still didn’t try it on a real Sim, but both tricks are pretty effective and don’t require Daigo reaction times. He’s not really the kind of char you can play in 50 different ways anyway.

Has there been a F.A.N.G. match-up question? People say he can be easily pressured but that sliding under and across the screen kinda ruins it.

Its not my best play, as i made some yolo reads with sweep, but otherwise this is me vs a decently high ranked fang player (CASUAL, hes damn good, probably played him 10 times online by now)

His EX slide thingy is beaten by throws, so keep your offense throw focused. Go for back throws a lot (unless you’re near the corner)

I’ve barely played against any Sims so this is just guesswork, but if you’ve played or seen Abel vs. Sim in SF4 you’ll know that EX CoD and focus absorbing fucks Sim over something fierce. Ex elbow works like a combination of both, so I can imagine that it’s a particularly powerful tool against Sim. I can also imagine that you’d be able to get quite a few CH elbows if you do them as reversals off of blocking his longer pokes.

This illustrates what I mean with the Abel stuff

Just found out that if you happen to block mika charged s.HK, Laura can backdash out of Mika’s s.LK followup. She can catch the backdash with s.MP but it will air reset you.

Why did it say YOU LOSE when you won?

the fang player posted the video, not me lol. I just happened to stumble across it

This needs to be sticked because this is really good for the matchup. Finally, I can throw fireballs again

Regarding the Ryu matchup:

Right now, Ryu, Karin, and Necalli are giving me the most trouble. In regards to their pressure, I feel like Laura struggles trying to get her offense going. I know her buttons are good but I feel the other characters buttons are much better. If anyone has any notes or strats please share.

I know everybody said that already, but the cr mk low profile is super good!

Necalli.

What the fucking fuck do I do? I can just about barely keep the neutral game going, but it feels like the second my back hits the ground the round is done, I honestly can’t grasp on how I’m supposed to win against a good Necalli.

Very good to know. As of right now I feel this is one of Laura’s problem matchups.

Use her fireball in footsie range. It is good but don’t be predictable.

I would suggest if there’s any character you have a problem with to play then yourself and get a feel for what they wanna do. I haven’t touched Laura in a week because I’ve been learning the other characters and how they fight her. Laura and Nevalli both condition their opponents and while yes he has more health and on average out damages you IMO you are still the scariest character on the game when you knock someone down.

Just gotta get to that point unfortunately

Is this 9:1 in Gief’s favor or something? I can’t do anything to him. His standing fierce will beat all jump ins that aren’t cross ups and his command grab has more range+less start up frames. You finally get close and he cr jab jab jab for days. Kicks through fireballs.

I have to change my stance on this matchup and agree here after playing against better giefs that the fight is in his favour. The most you can do vs his st hp is empty jump grab. Head butt and st hk will stuff most if not all of Lauras tools and wreck her.

This shit is absolutely not in Lauras favour. Uphill as fuck.

You can EX elbow his st.HP on reaction
