Laura Match-Ups Thread: Quench your thirst here

Hmm i didn’t know ex spd was throw invul. That could be a problem since thats how he gets his game started.

I agree that Gief isn’t as bad as a MU as it may look. Fireballs obviously shut down any jump-in and I believe they can even hit many of his long ranged pokes. V-Skill can let you hit him from pretty far away without any fear of retaliation AND also his jumps, acting in fact like a zoning tool.
Of course the range of both his normals and command grabs is gianormous compared to Laura’s, but she’s agile enough to get in and out of it pretty fast.
It is certainly an epic and nervous battle between them…

If you can’t see how the Gief matchup is clearly disadvantaged, the Giefs you’re playing has to be severely brain damaged.

I’ve hit a major road block with Laura and I’m wondering if anyone can help me. Nearly all of my losses involve someone mashing grab through my frame traps. When you look at the data it doesn’t make sense. They are mashing grab 4-5 times and everytime I try to trap it they just end up blocking. It makes even less sense when I attempt to do it and I just end up getting trapped. Is there an OS or something I’m not aware of?

which frame traps are you using? because if you get thrown in between your strings, it means they are too loose.
if they tech every time you go for a grab it means you’re either too predictable or they are doing a late tech (pressing lp+lk after a little bit so they are in block stun if you attacked, and they tech if you grabbed)

Holy crap I don’t know what to do against myself. How do you approach the mirror match, I got another laura killin me@ locals.

Little help?

Alright, for cammy, I found a slew of them the other day and learned a lot of the matchup. The key to winning against cammy is to land volt tackle anti air her dive kick 100%OF THE TIME. Make her approach you, and you punish her approach; the best way for me to win it

First off, thanks for the response. I’m not getting thrown between my strings. The problem is I’m not able to punish people mashing throw. I watch their inputs on replay and they hit it like 5 throws over the course of a second or two regardless of what I’m doing. It’s not just happening with throw btw. It’s happening with people mashing slp and clp also. And while I’m sure some of them may be late techs, most of them aren’t. I have countless replays of people mashing through slp to cmp, slk to cmp, smp to cmp while just staying in block. Doesn’t matter if I do a 1 frame trap, 2 frame 3 frame, etc. I virtually never catch these guys and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Can you upload one of your replays?

Yeah I’ll do that some time in the next couple days and PM you. I’m a decent silver but I’m not that good and have a lot to work on. I don’t wanna embarrass myself  Thanks for your help man.

No worries man, no one is going to judge you. I bet I’m worse than you

Please consider making your findings public. I’m having the same problem and it’s pretty frustrating.

Any one could gimme some tips agaisnt Sim? I’m kinda frustrated, I don’t know how to aproach to this match up and I’m getting bodied all the time. : (

Kinda late to this one but here’s a video I made for punishing Mika’s dropkick. Pretty much any of your pokes will beat it on startup you can even get crush counter hp into a reset mixup. Low profile into full punish is probably the best option but if you do cr mk too late it’s possible that they can recover before you punish them.

I played Gief mainers with more than half a brain. I’m not saying that things look very good on the paper, but that in an actual game the MU is far from being so bleak. I’m not gonna lie saying it’s an easy fight either.

just to add onto this, gief players that play mindlessly are beaten by wiff punishing everything with st. HK, specifically wiff punishing the armored fierce punch he throws. Just learn spacing and anyone can play better against bad giefs

or, as i would say

you really can save GRIEF versus GIEF

Post it here, I’m curious to see as well. I’m still not sure I understand what’s happening though.

Let’s take st.lp > cr.mp as an example. If they block st.lp, according to the frame data Laura is at +2. cr.mp is 5 frames, same as a throw. Since you’re at +2, the cr.mp should hit them, unless they mashed their throw button on blockstun frames and it never came out.

What you’re saying is you’re getting thrown? Or you’re not getting thrown, but you’re expecting to hit them with the cr.mp because they’re mashing throw, but they’re blocking it?

Do everything you can to get in, and don’t let go. Punish jumps with HP bolt charge and keep putting on the pressure. Your mixups and combos have to be on-point. Make him pay for letting you come in.

Crouching fierce is your single best tool in this matchup. It beats his mk clean
