Please say the videos of this are online some where. I just did some google searches but can’t find whatever tournament you’re referring to. Every tournament I have watched with Laura’s in it thus far have sadly seen them getting rocked in the early rounds, Winter Brawl X for instance, I don’t believe a single laura made top 32 and based on all the ones that were on stream it seems like quite a few entered.
Anyway, I’m definitely hungry for some high level tournament Laura play, and especially to see her actually have success, so if you could link or direct me what to search to find the videos (if they exist), I would be very grateful!
There will probably be vids or highlights uploaded on YT later. You have to be a subscriber to watch the archive. But I agree, the general Laura display at Winter Brawl X was weak shit. I blame that more on the players than the character tho. A good number of them weren’t utilizing all of her tools and were being pretty impatient. A product of tourney jitters probably.
having a big trouble against Cammy (FT5 yesterday, lost 5-0). The main cause is the lk.cannon spike : every time i try to sunset wheel, she drops a srk which made me very hesitant to dash > cmd throw… And when you put a Laura player in such a position, specially against very aggressive Cammy’s, you lost all of it. Any suggestions guys? I need to improve on this one.
Also, very quick question : is cr. mk confirmable into bold charge?
You wouldn’t try to command grab raw Cammy since every version of Cannon Spike is faster than your throw… Even with a Bolt Charge you’ll be only +2 on hit, leaving her with 4 frames to do what she likes. I think it’s better to stick with normal throws with her.
not sure to understand this part…lp Bold Charge is +2 oh yes, but I can st.jab (3f) her before she lands a cannon spike right? where these 4 frames come from?
So far my toughest matchups have been Chun-Li and Cammy. I have trouble getting in range and staying there.
Here are my super-early online scrub match-up thoughts so take it with a grain of salt. So far for me, it’s all about whether I can get in close range.
I could believe it. Any character that doesn’t have a true reversal and no 3f move is at a disadvantage against Laura right off the bat. I haven’t played against enough giefs to really comment on the matchup though.
Come on now. He bullies the shit out of her in the neutral. All buttons that isn’t cr. or st.HK is outranged by LP SPD. You can’t play at st.HK range because that shit’ll get whiff punished with VT. His fucking jabs match the range of your pokes, so even getting into a reasonable range is a fucking hassle. Any parry leads to SPD. LP bolt is a free super on block. Target combo isn’t a confirm because that’s also a free super on block. Laura has no reversal while Gief has both armored and throw invincible options which puts YOU in a mixup after LP bolt, ON HIT. His mixups are more rewarding. It’s a shit fest.
Let’s see… I’ve had good results so far staying mid-range, throwing Claps and normals out and punishing jump-ins. His jumping medium kick is tough to beat though, even with HP Bolt.
from what I understand his charged fierce punch is only one hit of armor, so it will lose to a half-charged Clap.
Once he has V-trigger, I back off fullscreen if I have the space and start throwing claps.
His SPD is 5-frames. Laura’s is 6 frames, and I’m pretty sure SPD has more range than Laura’s.
Again my experience so far is against 1000-1500 LP players mostly. I mean, half of the time against Gief I’ve been holding up when he gets in and they don’t punish me much for it. This will change for sure once I get to a higher level.
I haven’t had too much trouble with Zangief. I checked his data though as I thought he had no wakeup options outside of CA, but his V-Skill has 2 hits of armor from the first frame. Will need to play around with this info later.
