IMO Juri is a hard matchup for Laura. Her buttons wreck us, and she can go right through our fireballs. And that vtrig… scary as heck.
Ok so I played quite a few Uriens yesterday and today. My thoughts?
This Illuminate Vice President…is not threatening at all. I havent lost to one yet. His AAs seem wonky as hell and Laura was free to jump in on him alot, however i think one of his is extremely well but for now no one seems to abuse it. His shoulder rush is massively punishable, cr.mp is your friend!!
His DP is not really threatening at all. So you get hit with it? Just run right back in there. His fireballs are not really something he should spam because Laura will EX right through it. Plus he gives himself away when he charges his fb. Just time yourself properly and make your way in. He shoots in the air? Dash in to get right on him and go ham. Other than his lame DP he really doesnt have anything to get him off you. The plasma walls arent really that threatening either since they break after like two or three hits and dont do that much damage.
The only thing thats annoying is his range. Hes got some pretty far hitting moves, but they have such a long start up time its not hard to deal with, just block. Hes got three vreversal bars so itll be a bit aggravating to keep on him if someone is vreversal happy.
Other than that, eh. Theres really nothing to “fear” from him. He’ll be the one panicking as soon as you get one EX fireball on him and have to keep him guessing. For now, just focus on getting in and going ham. This is all of course day 1 or 2 specualtion. To be honest, even if people start finding Urien tech and such, I dont feel Laura will have much too worry about as long as you keeo your head on straight and make the right moves at the right time.
I fought a couple of Uriens today and to me it looks like the ibuki match up. He has good walk speed, amazing throw range, and good buttons. He can control the neutral with his fireball and st/cr mk, and go ham when he gets aegis
Must be the first time I see @zektback telling a new character is not a bad MU for Laura
Other than that… I admit I played him more than I played against him. His toolkit is just so fun.
Stick around Im full of surprises! XD
Any character without an invincible reversal is already on even grounds with Laura But for real, Urien seems very Ageis dependent and defensive. Problem being he doesn’t have a reliable wakeup option other than I believe EX headbutt (does it have invul frames?). Not only that but armor frames won’t do much vs Laura’s projectiles charged up. That being said like against all characters with insane mixups if Laura gets stuck in it she’s fucked. Ageis mixups will ruin her considering it renders her EX Bolt useless. Early thoughts I see this as a solid 5-5. Fun matchup, could go either way depending on who gets them knocked down.
EX headbutt is completely invincible. It is a true reversal.
Yeah it has a ridiculous amount of invincible frames. It also seems to recover super fast.
Yep, -12 on block like Chun’s EX SBK. On the other hand it has a slow startup too so it can be safe jumped.
You might be able to low profile it, too. I slid beneath one earlier with Chun’s cr.MP, so maybe Laura’s cr.MK works as well. Doesn’t give you any frame advantage though since it recovers so fast but if it works it’s a safe pressure/avoidance option.
Faced more Uriens. The only thing to really worry about is that throw. ALOT of Uriens, like Juri, have become extremely throw happy and rely on it to make their moves count. His knee crashing move is a bit weird, you can QCF+HP it, but Ive had trouble catching it with her st.MP. Better to just let it happen and punish if you hesitate, but be warry its frame data shifts depending on if he hit you high or low, and apparently the EX version is safe, but youll really have to utilize her st.LP, that move will get you through the match, no lie. Other than that, the only thing annoying is his range, but it doesnt seem too hard to get it on him.
I think on of the best things about the match up is that Urien’s plasma wall makes him nervous also against Laura. Since Laura’s fireball doesnt travel far, you can still stop him if he puts it up from trying to rush in on you and give yourself space. I just use a V-Reversal when he tries to be slick and combo into it from a blocked move.
tl;dr Laura had Aegis Reflector before it was cool.
^^^ that is a janky ass invul property for Urien. See its reversals like that I don’t mind they have invul frames on because there’s at least ways to properly counter/bait them. I’m tired of playing mind games with myself against the top 8 D:
Played a few more Uriens today. I’m believing more and more its a solid 5-5. His limbs tend to beat out Laura, esp that cMK. But if you get him in some good mixups he has issues getting out, and you can neutral jump bait his EX headbutt.
lol I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way. It’s just so aggravating that you finally get in and score a knockdown, but you still have to play the guessing game with every move you make afterwards.
Can I ask a serious question? Why is Zangief allowed to still command grab me through the fireball? I still dont get what am I suppose to do. Legit nothing works at all.
You don’t throw fireballs inside the range of his command grab?
Laura commonly has uphill battles unfortunately. Gief can beat her with 2-3 buttons.
.
The struggle is real. I always feel like once he has bar, he can shut down a lot of your mixups and wake up pressure. If try to jump and bait his command grab, he can opt for air grab instead. Basically this match is one big guess and the odds are in his favor.
Gief is 7-3 at best. Laura struggles incredibly hard. You CANNOT throw fireballs willy nilly like you can in…pretty much every matchup except maybe Necalli. Quite honestly? Jump. Jump often. Bait his shit. Most Giefs will go for the same stuff. Command forward hopping knee (not sure what button it is) into 360, 1-3 jabs into 360, etc. But of course from there he can just headbutt on meaty and knock you out of the air which is stupid IMO.
If the Gief is a bad Gief, he’ll jump instead of (is that button s.roundhouse that goes through projectiles?) kicking you. From there just HP bolt and backdash…backdash until you hit the corner and lose >_>
EDIT: Watching Wolfkrone go at it it seems he never backs off…is that the strategy? Take it to Gief instead of vice versa? Go in knowing you’ll probably lose and that drives you?
