That matchup is basically my kryptonite. I lose to random Necalli players, though I’m not that good with Laura (over 4000 lp). The character seems to have good tools to play the lame game but can also net some burst damage from any knockdown. I suppose I have to be more patient. I’m buffering ex.shoulder to st.lk etc but footsie battles against characters like Chun Li and Necalli are so frustrating.
The problem for me is that the more MU experience people have against Laura, the more they will just block my meaty setups after a knockdown or some such. The command throw just isn’t that scary and the overhead is absolutely useless. Also, using lp.shoulder or f+hp as a meaty tool is not that great. If/when they block those, you are at a disadvantage.
That’s exactly how I felt. Over a certain level any player seems to jab on reaction as soon as Laura is on them. It becomes pretty humiliating when Necalli can land his 8f grab and I can’t land mine.
EX tatsus are like minus a million on block and you can punish them with crush counter combos from st. HP/HK. Other tatsus are between -8 and -10, so you can do any combo starting from MP/HP (any ground version) or cr. MK.
I’m sold on Chun being 3-7. You won’t get in unless they fuck up in a major way and her pressure shits all over Laura. EX SBK is good enough of a reversal, tosses you across the screen and she doesn’t ever need to spend meter on anything else so it’s almost always available. Her jab being 3f and leading to 200 damage and a knockdown is especially disgusting for Laura. I’m inclined to believe that it’s the worst match-up in the game. Your best bet is hoping that your opponent, in a Clouseau-esque escapade, somehow drops his stick on his throat, severs a carotid artery and bleeds to death.
No lie out of all the characters I face half the time I just give up against a good Chun. Her buttons are ridiculously far reaching and safe, the worst combo playing her as Laura, add that to the fact she has a reversal with her fast walkspeed and she can toss you to the other side of the screen causing you to have to get in all over again the matchup seems impossible.
Like you said you just have to hope he player messed up big time so you can capitalize on it, other than that…Good Luck Charlie…
Man you guys took the words right out of my mouth. Played a good Chun today and let me tell you I never felt so hopeless before. It was literally eat this normal and that normal…oh you wanna jump? sorry my b.LK says you cant. As mentioned too if you get in and get hit by EX SBK it’s back to square 1. I remember I got cornered by a Chun one time with V trigger activated. Scary shit man
@noosetester I really laugh at the part when you said she doesn’t need to spend meter on anything else except EX SBK. Such a true statement
I just find it bizarre that the character with the best neutral also has the best pressure, an invincible reversal and 500 different anti-airs including an air throw. Also, a dive kick. Also, she gets pressure after her bnb. Also, her bnb starts with a 3f jab. Also, her bnb is the best frame trap in the game. Also, she has the best walkspeed so her tick throws are also the best in the game which makes her frame traps, which are already the best, even better, which in turn makes her tick throws even betterer. Like, what the fuck man? Just give the bitch a command throw and be done with it.
Meanwhile, I’m sitting here with my dick in my hand wondering why this here mixup characters only oki after 90% of her knockdowns is the choice between a meaty which leaves you at -1 and nothing. Good fucking grief.
Yeah, you need to be completely clueless if you are constantly losing against Laura with Chun. Some matchups are just so frustrating; especially when people just block your meaty setups. I feel like I have to take huge risks with command throws if I want to win against characters like Chun Li (or Necalli).
Lol. Mash jab and/or 3f light= no oki for laura.
When Chun gets her command grab in the next patch I do hope it has a hit of armor. Wouldn’t want it to be too risky.
Sorry, I’ve been pulling my hair out today thinking I’ve trained scrubs not to mash only to eat ex sbks and jab combos that take the match. Ugh.
I want to play people that only mash jab on wakeup so I can meaty them all day, the hell are you doing that loses to jab, especially when you see they’re consistently mashing on wakeup lol.
If they mash jab only as a response to you dashing in your only oki option is a meaty that leaves you at -1 to -3. Only exception being back throw, where you can get genuine pressure. If you try to push your luck against chun you’ll eat 200 damage, get pushed halfway across the stage, deal with frame traps and die. Because it makes sense, you know, that chun fucking li can continue her pressure while the strikegrappler without a neutral game can’t. 10/10.
Against characters with 4f jabs you can dash in and do st.LP after any knockdown though.
Shit like this is why I want ex command grab’s ex flash to not appear until after it’s initial dash-in animation. After a knockdown from MP Bolt > K ender, HP Bolt, or forward throw, they will get scooped by the throw if they are reacting to the dash in with jab.
But where is the value in being at frame disadvantage in the opponents face? Reacting to the wakeup is vastly preferable. If MP bolt, K had 3f longer knockdowns but was roll recoverable it’d absolutely be many times better.
I played your Laura earlier, sorry for leaving half way through but it was rollback hell. I don’t know if you took my jabbing at full screen as something else, but I couldn’t react to a thing.
