Laura Match-Ups Thread: Quench your thirst here

If they quick rise and block you can go for EX command grab/dash grab next time

It’s an option, but I don’t like ex command grab in that situation. It’s easy to react to flashes/the noise ex moves make. Dash grab is harder to see though, so I’ll try that if they are condition to block after quick rise.

This is a good point, thought it is worth noting that even if timed perfectly, dash forward sunset wheel is 23 frames (17 for the dash, 6 for the SSW) while ex SSW is 19 so you are giving your opponent 4 extra frames to react. It gets worse if the distance is such that you need to avante in (22 frames+6 = 28), and of course the ex SSW does a little more damage then any of the non ex versions. Dash forward, though, also has the mix up of going for a normal grab instead against quick rise neutral jump, so I don’t know that any option is necessarily “the best”, but I could definitely see an argument for dash forward grab based on not only the ex flash, the ability to go for a normal grab, and just the fact that your not risking any ex meter if they intentionally don’t quick rise in anticipation of your ex SSW.

It’s conditioning, when opponent expects to block a meaty hit to jab out of further pressure EX SSW will catch them.

It’s a once maybe twice per fight thing but it gives your opponent one more thing to think about for the rest of the bout.

i dropped off the face of the earth for a good week lol, but better late than never.

CROUCHING FIERCE IS YOUR FRIEND, you can beat his mk flat out with it, his mp often, catch slides, and buffer into anything

What should I be doing against Dhalsim teleport into his j. HP(?)? s. MP works when Dhalsim air teleports, but a grounded teleport it doesn’t seem fast enough. Should I be trying s. LP?

I use s. LP generally. I was thinking about that matchup as well and it may be possible to buffer HP elbow and press HP when you see the teleport, but that may be unsafe if he doesn’t teleport near you.

Here’s an hour of footage of me vs Ksabot’s Chun. This match really feels like an uphill battle but it’s not impossible, you really need to press your advantage wherever you can, before she gets meter because her pokes will keep you out, once she gets v trigger she becomes really deadly and she can hit you for 20% off an overhead and all her buttons stuffs or trades with your ex bolt charge.

Chun’s fireball is also kind of problematic because she has so much advantage just for doing it, you just have to either back up or take block damage if you can’t get your own thunderclap out.

Anyway here’s the footage:

Any tips or critiques are welcome, I hope you guys enjoy the matches it was a fun set.

Does Laura have a single meaty that can stop cammy’s wake up spike? I was doing drills today and couldn’t find a single one.

Er, no, its invincible

I didn’t know meterless dps were invincible. I thought only EX dps were. Thanks.

birdie match up seems almost free for laura. I easily defeat birdie players with a higher rank than me (3000 lp right now and gradually rising, thanks to that “less footsies, more aggression” strategy).

stay back at first (dash+ex elbow range), bait him for soda can/banana or chain. knock him down. free. birdie has a little answer when he is knocked down ,vortex his ass. (they tend to drop cans or banana peels when you start chargin for projectile)

and be patient when blocking, the guy has ridiculous normals.

sim and karin kicks my ass. thank god there arent much sim players, but karin army is stronk! need to hit the training room. I’ve been playing by “heart” till now…lol.

I also need a guy who would slap me in the back of my head when I forget that there are no os crouch techs in this game. seriously I need it, need to forget sf4.

Yeah, that’s character dependent. Cammy has a traditional DP similar to Ryu and Ken’s. The same applies to Necalli. So you just have to bait and punish. Karin, Chun, and Rashid only have true reversals with EX meter.

His ground teleports have a ton of recovery. I mean you can even kinda react to it with MP Bolt if he does it on wake-up. I think maybe it would help to react when he disappears and not after he reappears and if he teleports away then you lose nothing by whiffing a normal.

What’s the proper bnb punish for cammy’s dp? Seems she’s too far away to do the standard punish that is done with the rest of the cast.

Oh you have more time than you think. Walk forward a bit or dash forward and st.HP.

st.hk has very good range. can hit/punish most with a little walk forward. after crush, you can link a medium bolt at max range.

I had a horrible experience against a very good Necalli today. What exactly can you punish of him? Charging move seems to be a nope, his ground stomp a nope too. Or maybe I’m not using the right buttons.

@Skybuster: I accidentally discovered that you can very well grab Cammy’s DP with qcf+HP.

You’re using the wrong buttons. His charge move is -6 on block. So you can punish with s.MP or c.MP into MP Bolt Charge. The only punishable ground stomp he has is the LK one. That’s -4. His MK stomp is -2 and his HK stomp is 0.

Yeah I noticed about the charge move right after posting that. And how do you punish LK stomp? Jab into LP elbow?
His relentless pressure is driving me nuts seriously
